No TE caught a pass
nygiants1114 : 8/22/2014 10:55 pm : link
Fells and Donell both had penalties... Davis got most of 1st team reps but whiffed badly on some blocks, Robinson with the least mistakes, congratulations, you are the best of the worst, you win the Giants TE starting job.
I hated the Nassib pick
FatHeadTommy : 8/22/2014 10:57 pm : link
but he is making me a believer. He is the No. 2 no doubt. Great command, presence and arm.
I had it Giants 35-Jets 10
Headhunter : 8/22/2014 10:57 pm : link
Eric you or Connor had it Jets 33 Giant 3

You both work for me
Didn't see the first half
DavidinBMNY : 8/22/2014 10:58 pm : link
Nassib looked good again. Harris getting hurt is a blow ad I thought he was the 3 receiver. How did maninghah look?
I am not impressed with our first team offense
SGMen : 8/22/2014 10:59 pm : link
I hope Schwartz doesn't have a season ending injury.

Also, with the exception of Cruz we have no real proven receiving talent. I hope Randle is better in the regular season than what he has shown to date.

TE - ha ha ha.
Tonight the Snoopy

1's a little better on offense
Andy in Boston : 8/22/2014 10:59 pm : link
tempting to play the 1's next week to get them some extra work.

a ton of work to do on the offensive line.

I don't know how Jernigan makes this team.

disappointed in the run defense.

I hope JPP is ok.

Damontre Moore is getting better every game.

Nassib is playing great.
Thoughts
dep026 : 8/22/2014 11:00 pm : link
we have a lot of posters here who flat out suck. Even when one player does well, its at the disposal of another player.
And who saw this kid Washington coming.
FatHeadTommy : 8/22/2014 11:00 pm : link
talk about making the most of your opportunity kid. Great job.
Giants were still playing a very vanilla offense
chris r : 8/22/2014 11:00 pm : link
not much in the way of misdirection, screens, etc that we will see in the regular season.

I'm concerned about Schwartz. Not because he's injured, but because he's been bad and will start because he's getting paid.
If they can stabilize
Dave in N.Westchester : 8/22/2014 11:00 pm : link
The OL this team might not be too bad. A number of draft picks have stepped forward Nassib, Hankins, Moore to name a few.
I saw a lot of good signs
deadkurtrulz : 8/22/2014 11:00 pm : link
There were some breakdowns in OL in first half but they did OK. Richburg looked good and Walton was OK. Beatty seemed steady which is the most I could hope for.

Nassib, Jennings, Williams, Talley, DaMonster looked good.

Best of all that fat fuck Ryan does not get his Snoopy.

Now that Nassib looks
Headhunter : 8/22/2014 11:00 pm : link
like he has talent and Williams looks promising and Kennard is going to be a monster. Does Reese's last 2 drafts suck?
Well.
AcidTest : 8/22/2014 11:02 pm : link
The OL is a mess. Beatty, Schwartz, Mosley, and Jerry. Holy shit. Even Pugh looked confused on a sack. Missed blocks, being easily beaten on inside swim moves, and getting pushed back into the QB. Richburg and Gaines were the only bright spots on the OL.

Nothing from the TEs. James and Jackson were awful. Run D was suspect.

Nassib again looked very good. As did Washington, Moore, Williams, and Parker.

Injuries are the key. Kuhn, Bowman, and JPP don't look serious. Hopefully. Harris and Schwartz could be out for awhile. Harris maybe to IR.

Think JJ is in trouble now. Brewer as well. Gaines seems more stable.
Major takeaways
Fort Mill Mike : 8/22/2014 11:02 pm : link
1. Beatty looking pretty good
2. Eli gets his groove back on final drive
3. Nassib has a future
4. Moore could leapfrog JJP soon
3. Washington is 3rd or 4th receiver
Chris R
Andy in Boston : 8/22/2014 11:02 pm : link
trouble is...the offensive line is struggling with basic plays...not sure if they can handle the more complicated stuff.
Nassib is developing..likely locked up #2
micky : 8/22/2014 11:02 pm : link
Wondering how long or serious Schwartz toe injury and how long he'll miss games.

Eli's two minute drill drive looked promising. Still think he's "hearing footsteps" and lost confidence in OL. Can overcome that get back up to par..Season will tell. OL even with that last drive..still has me concerned. Is Richburgh ready to step in when it gets real at LG or not?

Until the offense has more than 1 possession other than the 2 minute warning in a game, its still reasonable to be suspect of what this team can do. They had 90 yards with 2 minutes to go in the first half.
Let's see in
AnishPatel : 8/22/2014 11:02 pm : link
a few years when Elis contract is up. If we can get some return on our investment for Nassib in a trade then that helps too. If he sits on the team, and doesn't start ever then people will debate it.
yes...I'm going to sound like a downer...
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/22/2014 11:03 pm : link
but the one drive by the offense doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy. Figured this OL would have problems with Jets DL, but that was ugly.
I was gonna bring up the TEs, too.
bceagle05 : 8/22/2014 11:03 pm : link
God I hope a decent TE shakes loose this week. What an abomination our TE position is.

The OL actually looked NFL caliber once Richburg took over for Schwartz. Beatty whiffed once, but I thought he held up ok. I haven't given up on that unit yet - I think there's a combination that can be halfway decent.

Running backs looked good. We desperately need Beckham to get healthy. If he's in the mix with Cruz, Randle and Washington, that could be fun.

Nice to see Eli have a bounce to his step and a few smiles after that TD drive. He needed it.

I feel a LITTLE better after tonight, so I'll take it.
No big injuries, thankfully.
Exit 172 : 8/22/2014 11:04 pm : link
(Obviously, I don't count Schwartz.)

Same here. I saw nothing that made me feel like we truly improved much. Some, but not much. Now Schwartz is down. Yikes!

The running game did
dep026 : 8/22/2014 11:05 pm : link
look better other than the whiff by Davis on a run play.

And Cruz was a factor and played better. Only mistake was not going out of bounds at the end of the half. Jennings is going to be a horse this year.
I hope it's not a season-ender.

At worst with Harris injury, you've got to think Washington makes
bigbluescot : 8/22/2014 11:06 pm : link
the team as a redzone option if nothing else. Essentially the 5th WR of the 5 on game day with Parker fighting Jernigan. Washington has the height that none of the other receivers can offer.

I think they IR Harris, they've liked him enough to keep him on the PS. His injury shouldn't be a career limiting one unless he's been horribly unlucky, and he's done well enough to swallow the salary until next year.

Sounds like there might have been a break then.

He's looked like shit, but if Richburg has to play whichever RG/LG he was supposed to, that means Moseley or Jerry are going to have to start... and that isn't likely to be pretty.

Too bad about Schwartz, looks like Richburg is starting for a while
Nassib has really looked comfortable running the offense

mechanics, throws, etc. Confidence
I thought
Arcanum : 8/22/2014 11:08 pm : link
The defense got gassed in the first half. Due to the 5 punts, by the offense. But they only gave up 10 points. So it wasn't that bad. I'm glad the offense got it going a little bit.
I saw some improvement, but this is still a work in progress.
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/22/2014 11:09 pm : link
On the plus, this is a much better run-blocking unit than last year. I guess anything would be better than last year, but this OL does open lanes to run in. They need to be more consistent there.

Pass blocking is an issue.
Wonder
AcidTest : 8/22/2014 11:09 pm : link
if they stick Schwartz on short term IR?
Game balls

Good post. If they can get 3rd and 3s or shorter, It will only help the passing game. Thought Richberg played much better tonight.
VIctor Cruz wears number Six in preseason

Overall offense?

Heard some of it here, not much improvement. Did not see/hear the game but any speculation why Eli did not look good to some of you tonight? Im not worried yet but was hoping to hear of more sharpness on O. Also, thoughts on the running game? Been here a long time, Gmen fan for 50 years and past season ticket holder. I don't post much as you folks -95% anyway :) - provide great insight so I come here to learn. Here is to a good season. I for one, am optimistic. Kudo's to Eric of course and to Connor.
Some of these guys need to drink the Eli and Rolle anti-injury juice
Mason : 8/22/2014 11:13 pm : link
it amazing how some of these get here and can't stay healthy. Not their fault but it just sucks.
That was as tough a front
Headhunter : 8/22/2014 11:13 pm : link
as the Giants will face this season. To think they were not going to make plays is moronic. On balance the OLine acquired itself well
Scary to think our starting OL
bceagle05 : 8/22/2014 11:13 pm : link
will include Mosley, a rookie, and two guys coming off injuries.
Cruz wore 3
Headhunter : 8/22/2014 11:15 pm : link
but don't let that ruin your story
Doesn't seem like they totally believe in Corey Washington
Peter from CT : 8/22/2014 11:15 pm : link
He is pretty far at the end of the bench. Manningham, Jernigan, Talley, Harris and Parker all seem ahead of him. It will be pretty hard if he doesn't make the team. But is he ready to contribute in real games?

I think both Jernigan and Manningham should be gone, but they are getting the reps, so.......?
I not one of those guys to get on Perry but this playing off the LOS
Mason : 8/22/2014 11:15 pm : link
with his corners is starting to get real old. This team no matter the personnel continue to show blitz way too early as well.

The other way to look at this is that Manningham, Talley, and Parker were put out there because the coaches wanted to give them one last look. None of them have really stood out like Washington or Harris have.

There's no way Washington doesn't make the team. I believe you're looking at the lack of reps the wrong way.
I hope
