Eli is 33 so you never know. He looks good but to get Johnson type pick Nassib would need to start a bunch of games and really excel. We don't have the talent to see him excel in the regular season this year.
Which NFL teams are that desperate for a starter? And which of those teams would trade for Nassib to fill that role? I think those teams would rather plug in an old vet until they can draft their own QB of the future.
For the last year, all the way up to last Saturday night, all I have

They couldn't get that right now, but if he somehow got into a few games this season and continued to impress you never know what could happen down the road.
Johnson is by far not the only example of teams trading their first picks for a relatively unproven but good looking young QB from another team. it is not like it has never happened.
Will start for the Giants sooner or later. He's not going anywhere. Eli's shelf life is getting shorter all the time, and, behind this O-line, immobile as he is, could come to a sudden end at any time.
RE: For the last year, all the way up to last Saturday night, all I have
seen on here is how bad Nassib is. How the trade was a waste of 2 picks, and that this is the definitive Reese mistake.
Now tonight I am reading that we hope to get a 1st round pick for him.
It's really amazing how the last 6 days have changed Nassib's perception on BBI.
The kid has played well the past two weeks, but perhaps this could be a good reminder to everyone about the time it takes to develop a QB.
Some of you need to not take everything so seriously.
Where have I said I hope that we get a number one for him?
I just thought it was a little fun to think about that since Coughlin is the one that traded away a 4th pick in Johnsons if the idea of grooming in a way that showcases Nassib to where they might one day get a nice return for him had entered his mind.
I'm more amazed that some people have Eli playing until he is into
the Giants tried to see if they could find a gem in a guy like Rhett Bomar when it was clear that Eli was going to be in the saddle for many years to come.
Rob Johnson was taken in the 4th round because at the time, the Jags traded for Brunell from Green Bay and he wasn't proven, and was only 25 years old. Once Brunell blossomed in his 2nd year, Johnson became expendable.
With Eli being 33, I think the Giants view Nassib more in the Aaron Rodgers category (not saying he will be as good as Rodgers). Meaning, Rodgers sat for 3 years behind Favre and just watched and learned. It finally reached a point that the Packers decided they had to move on from Favre and give him a shot. It is quite possible that depending on how Eli responds this year, the Giants might start looking to make a change in 2015 or 2016 and they would have groomed Nassib. If Eli rebounds and is back to his old self, then they have a good, young backup QB, which is something Coughlin has never had in his time here (not counting Eli's rookie year behind Kurt Warner).
Obviously if Eli has a horrible season this year they have to be concerned about him going forward. I personally think Eli has much more in him than that.
I just thought it was fun to point out the similarities in that it was Coughlin who had traded Johnson and might he be thinking of that in the back of his mind.
I get it, and I thought of the Rob Johnson angle for many years. More around Bomar and Andre Woodson. And to be honest, I think that was on the Giants mind as well at the time. Take a flier on a talented QB, groom him a bit, maybe get some game action, and see if they could get a team to overpay for a QB, similar to the Johnson trade, or what the Eagles did with AJ Feeley.
My sense with Nassib is the Giants plan was to keep him around. They wanted to give him competition this Spring, and did so by bringing in Josh Freeman for 5 minutes, and then to beat out a lifetime backup in Painter. Remember, with Eli in place, no established QB was going to come here to push him, so the Giants needed to do something to push Nassib. It looks like decision to demote him to #3 lit the fire under Nassib to perform. From the Giants perspective, they wanted him to earn it, not to just hang around, like David Carr and others have done behind Eli for so many years.
They thought he had value in the draft. He has a very calm way about him and he will be ready to take over for Eli in 2-3. i like his contro; and in time he will get better.
Newsflash Matt: Eli cannot bootleg like Aaron rodgers but Nassib can
The Nassib hate, like the Bromley hate, when he was drafted was completely asinine. Nassib was projected to be a first rounder, maybe a second rounder & we take him in the 4th & people are calling it a wasted pick & all that nonsense.
Nassib has looked good. He's going to be the 2. End of story.
But it all could be smoke and mirrors.....he has played well against second and third stringers, and it looked like he was playing against the Jet #1's for awhile....
But he has been rattled under pressure, and there is a big difference playing as the #1 qb, where the pressure to play well is great, especially with our OL in front of him, playing against a #1 defense when it really counts....I don't think he is ready for that....
One thing I want to see this year, which we haven't seen in the past is, if the Giants are winning big(it could happen), or are getting blown out(it could happen), don't leave Eli in there....give Nassib some regular season experience...
here. Sure. Why not? Its the last year of his contract. Furthermore, you cannot make a presumption that he will play effectivey into his deep 30s just because his brother has. So much crap has been vented over the years at Coughlin & Gilbride for that very reason: Eli is not his brother's clone.
As for Ryan, how did guys like Romo & Foles get their start? By playing well against 2s & 3s. No doubt the enlightened following of both those teams dismissed their impressive outings and hoped for the continued good health of Bledsoe and Vick. All of this is contigency planning. Eli could get this offense down, the line could jell & a couple of threats at WR emerge. Then the transition talk will be tabled for a bit. But he's already made the vast majority of the money that he will get from the Giants. And most of his career is in the rear view mirror, as Parcells used to say.
What can be said of Nassib is he is an NFL starting caliber QB, and my compliments to Reese for finding one for the Giants without having to bleed through the eyeballs to get him.

the past 3 games. Unless I'm watching the wrong games, he's outplayed Eli and last night he went up against the Jets first defensive with our entire second offense.
And wait to see how Eli pans out this year. If Eli sucks again like last year or is merely average, then you do not reup Eli's contract and you begin to plan on making the change either next year or the year after.
Apparently I think Eli will be the Giants QB longer than many of you

You absolutely keep Nassib. We've got a big decision with Eli at the end of this year.

They even had him not getting selected off the practice squad if sent there. LOL

Nobody is making any predictions.

This or the Giants should take out a play that is not well suited for their in his prime 2 time SB MVP QB? Tough call.
Brilliant.

Well then get rid of him as Eli will get his $20 mil per year
Oh really? So Brady and Peyton most likely will, but Eli won't?
Ok

God, your handle really fits.
