3 Weeks Left in BBI Contribution Campaign - Please Help....

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/23/2014 4:53 pm
Only three weeks left.

BBI not only relies on ad revenue but the support of you, our readers. Without that support, the future of the site is not a certainty.

If you enjoy BBI, please consider making a small donation.

Thank you!

BBI Donation Details - How to contribute to the site... - ( New Window )
Eric, how is the campaign going relative to last year at this point?
Victor in CT : 8/24/2014 7:25 am : link
I hope it's at least comparable.
Well, the "good" news about not donating to this site
Big Blue '56 : 8/24/2014 8:43 am : link
is, if it goes away, many will find how TRULY addicted they are to this site; that cries of, "it's not the end-all, there are many places to go. I do have a life."

Yeah right

Not good. Last week, I received two donations by mail and probably 10 by PayPal.

I sent a small donation this morning via check

I will be sending my donation via paypal on Friday. I do have a question though, do you think that the annual donation beginning in March would maybe draw some more cash? Now, I ask this not knowing any details , maybe you have done it in March and I don't remember. I can't speak for others, but this is a tough time of year for me. We've got the family vacation in the summer, and as stupid as it sounds, guys are paying their league dues in fantasy footbal, football pools, etc. right now. Now, I'm not saying fantasy football should be prioritized over this great site, but I can only speak for myself here, my wife is getting a bit crazy seeing all my paypal payments going out, lol. I know that's not your problem, but it just seems that March, right around the time everyone is getting amped for the draft would be a good time too.

And again, maybe you've done this in the past. At any rate , contribution is on the way ...
Hope you got mine!
kevken60 : 8/24/2014 6:43 pm : link
Heck I didn't even wait until the last minute this year
I've tried to contribute $50 each year for the past three years
YamaBike : 8/24/2014 7:03 pm : link
via PayPal, and Eric has refunded my money each year.

I may be banned from BBI, but that doesn't mean that I don't visit the site multiple times each day and glean a lot of Giants information (as well as a lot of NGT and NFT information) from the site.

Since I'm a daily visitor to the site, a $50 contribution to keep the site going is something that I feel obligated to do.

It's just sill that Eric won't swallow his pride and accept my contribution.

After all, banned BBI members CAN and DO still benefit from the site.
Also, as a "frequently banned member,"
YamaBike : 8/24/2014 7:19 pm : link
I think Eric should consider creating a "Banned-Member Fine" system.

Similar to the way the NFL levies fines, the amount could increase with each subsequent banning.

And, it should start with a genuinely punitive amount. Like, say, a $100 fine for the first banning, $250 for the second banning, and $500 for the third banning. Then, after three bannings, the offending poster would have to pay a fine of $1,000 to be reinstated.

If a banned member truly loves BBI THAT much, and is willing to spend his/her money to be reinstated, then this "Banned-Member Fine" system could actually benefit the site.

After all, as I've already stated, banned members CAN and DO continue to visit, and benefit from, BBI. Why not get some money from these people?
Just contributed.

Eric,

I have contributed in the past but not regularly. My biggest gripe is the timing of the campaign. While it coincides with the season, it also coincides with "back to school expenses, fantasy football dues, and summer vacation.” I have always been an advocate of a yearlong campaign. You can still make a yearly “push” but give people more than 3 weeks to contribute.

Also, I am new to the DC area. Where are the good Giants bars?
Donated.

My thoughts as stated, in part, on Manh George's thread:
Big Blue '56 : 8/25/2014 8:50 am : link
"....If nothing else, Just the DAILY threads by DefenderDawg with all his Giants and around the league news that would take us an inordinate amount of time to access on our own, is worth a donation, imv..I daresay, very few if any posters provide that ANYWHERE on the web..."
That kinda seems like more of an argument to

(NOTE: This post is not meant to be taken as an argument against donating to BBI)

Perhaps, but my intent was to stress one of the bonuses contained within BBI
There are two components to BBI
fkap : 8/25/2014 12:48 pm : link
Eric's portion and all the stuff he provides, and the corner forum, where a lot of posters (like Defenderdawg) provide a lot of stuff (links, asshat rumors, amusement). I'll admit: Eric's portion is a great site, but the forum is the addiction, and I doubt I'd contribute as much if it weren't for the forum.

I had a feeling the claims in his post were questionable at best. It is truly amazing when a delusional banned poster attempts to come back onto a site where he is not welcome, only to post something false. There is seriously something wrong with them.

I don't blame you for not wanting to bring back an unwanted trouble making poster just because he promises you gifts. Who needs that kind of weirdness in their lives? I just noted his posts because I found his claims to be out of the ordinary. Who wants to draw attention that they are a reject and are rejected? Really?! Twisted.

Then when he got banned, I started a "Free YamaBice" thread.

...proceeded to get banned AGAIN on the "Free YamaBice" thread.

I agree with Brett (New York Giant #10) that Defender Dawg should be paid, if he already is not, by BBI, but I don’t buy Eric’s “chicken little” argument that the site would close if there were not more contributions.

Eric has already stated that big time web sites made overtures to buy his web site, and if Eric closed it down, which will never happen, someone else would fill the void in a New York minute and Eric could go back to being just another government bureaucrat.

Eric, if you claim to need donations, show us some real reasons. I love the site but someone could easily replace you, Defender Dawg?

To read about viewers who donate, when they are in tough financial situations is even more heart breaking when we hear about Eric’s weekly begging without any facts or figures. Wake up, these endless site ads should support this site, without facts showing the need for more revenue.

If Eric needs donations, it is to compensate for his time; let him justify it. If ad revenues and donations are disclosed, people can have facts, not the “sky is falling” hysteria as I feel we all contribute, with the ad revenues based on number of views.

I do not contribute nor would I, but when I posted my first and only article to the Corner Forum, Eric posted that I previously posted under 10-15 names, which is a total lie.

Some people suggest making this a paid site, for many reasons. I think that would go over like a lead balloon and competing free site probably by BBI folks would prevail, but go ahead and try it, if you do not want to be open and transparent.
This is the most entertaining donation thread

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/27/2014 8:20 pm : link
Sigh...it really isn't that difficult to understand and I've explained this over and over and over and over again for more than a decade.

(1) BBI is a second job. I basically work 12 hour days between my job and BBI.

(2) Because I am working TWO jobs, I expect to be compensated for working two jobs.

(3) If I don't, then there is absolutely no reason for me in terms of the time and effort I put into this to continue to keep doing it. Why should I work and not get paid? (To give you one example, as I've used before, if I am even on a family vacation, I stay up at night while my family is sleeping in the hotel room to update the site). There is real cost in terms of lost time spent with my family and friends for doing this work.

(4) My claim that I make a determination each year whether to continue BBI or not is not a "threat". It's merely process that I go through each offseason. Do I want to keep doing this? Is it worth it? You may see it as "I'm going to take my ball and go home" but that's not what I'm doing. And anyone who knows me knows that's not my game.

(5) No doubt someone would fill the void. Hell there are dozens of NYG sites out there now. So BBI'ers would simply migrate to other sites. That is 100 percent accurate.

Summary: This is a pure capitalist argument. The market will determine whether it wants BBI or not. I have no more noble or darker incentive to run the contribution campaign other than to generate income for my family. It's purely a business decision.
FLMike
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/27/2014 8:23 pm : link
and if you were banned previously for posting under 10-15 names, it was probably because either one of the moderators or myself saw that you shared the same IP address as a previous multiple-banned poster.

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/27/2014 8:29 pm : link

Those are facts.

I dont want Eric to have my personal information.

Why should I use paypal when they eat 3%, or whatever it is, of my donation?

Bitcoin is the easiest solution for me. I get to donate anonymously, instantly, and Eric has tangible value in his hands that he explicitly controls immediately. There is zero risk involved wrt to paypal's security measures on money transactions and he doesnt get any of my personal information.

Anyone who solicits donations today that doesnt accept Bitcoin has no idea what they are doing. None whatsoever.

Ronnie, it's just a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if Alex Raymond, who created Flash Gordon, was heavily influenced by Fu Manchu when he created Emperor Ming. The character of Fu Manchu predated Flash Gordon by about 20 years, and was wildly popular in books, pulp magazines, radio serials, and films of his own.

However, Republic also featured Prince Tallen of Saturn in the Buck Rogers serial, played by Philson Ahn (the brother of Phillip Ahn, Master Kan from the Kung Fu TV show). He was a good guy, and an ally of Buck Rogers.

Thanks for the info. I love those old movies. And I wasn't serious about being offended. I think it's just funny how over the top actors used to be (and still are) when they portray Asians in movies and TVs.

Comedy, drama, teen angst...and more excuses than a Carter has pills(I'm old!).

I haven't donated this year because I'm old and just haven't gotten around to it, but the entertainment value of this thread reminds me how much I enjoy this site.

As much as it's been a pain around here lately it's a great place to spend a little time every day.

And Eric, as stated above, you have the patience of Job. No idea why you put yourself through this but I for one appreciate this site.

Come on people! Where else can you go EVERYDAY and get the information and Entertainment (sp) you get here.

What does Sports Illustrated cost. Once a month of old news?

Plus you're not getting ripped off like 'The Giants News Weekly'. WOW who remebers that!
