NFT: So I finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday.

Klaatu : 8/24/2014 8:48 am
Yeah, I know, late to the party once again, but I wanted to wait until my schedule and my youngest nephew's meshed so we could see it together, which we did.

Anyway...wow, what a flick. Lots of action, lots of laughs, and the soundtrack of my youth. The most fun I've had at the movies in a long time. Can't wait for the sequel.
I enjoyed the hell out of it.
Montreal Man : 8/24/2014 8:51 am : link
Good story, good jokes and terrific performances. I especially liked the lead.

Damn Klaats.

I've already seen it twice. I have a hard time ranking Marvel movies, but I think it was my favorite out of all of them thus far. Did you stay post credits to see the cameo?
I've stated in an earlier thread
RELICDOA : 8/24/2014 8:59 am : link
That it is right up there with the best marvel movies. It actually may be the best. Great soundtrack, great 80's references, great chemistry , great story. I think it appeals to both old and young audiences.

I haven't seen it yet (I am waiting for a similar timing as you mentioned), but appreciate your thoughts on these topics very much.

Don't want to miller - but quick thoughts on the Strain? Haven't gone there yet and was curious as to what you were thinking?
Rob, I really like The Strain.
Klaatu : 8/24/2014 9:20 am : link
But I don't watch it with the lights off.
I think Disney/Marvel has a mega franchise on their hands

with GotG.

The comparisons to Star Wars were apropos in my opinion. It might be THE movie for a generation of kids.

Klaatu : 8/24/2014 9:24 am : link
I'd heard it was more like Stars Wars and less like your basic superhero movie, and after watching it I'd have to agree with that.
Cool, thank you
Rob in NYC : 8/24/2014 9:24 am : link
Good enough for me, you have my proxy in these matters!

True. No superpowers, just guns and starships
Thanks, Rob.

Movie of the year in my opinion, have both the original soundtrack and film score downloaded. Awesome music.

If they actually cast someone attractive instead of that pig, Saldana? Amirite?

That's awesome! As I said before, those songs were part of the soundtrack of my youth. Nice to hear they're appreciated by a new generation.

it follows the path

of star wars in so many ways, with character-plot-imagery.

fantastic in so many ways....

my favorite reference was hearing Starlord call Rocket "Ranger Rick". Those were the magazines of my youth

A little trivia/cameo I just read bout.
Klaatu : 8/24/2014 11:28 am : link
The scene where Groot sticks his fingers up the nose of the alien prisoner...the prisoner is played by Nathan Fillion.

and personally speaking, I think it may be the best comic book based movie ever made. It felt just like reading a comic book to me. Most comic book movies never make me feel that way.

Now admittedly, The Guardians of the Galaxies was a favorite of mine when they first appeared in comics back when I was a kid. I even own a bunch of their first appearances in comic books, so I went to this movie expecting to like it. But that was some of the most fun I've had watching a movie in many years. Definitely looking forward to the sequel!
I don't know.
Rick5 : 8/24/2014 1:01 pm : link
I liked it, but to me, it wasn't any better than most of the other Marvel movies. That's not a negative comment because I like most of the others a lot. I just didn't see this one as all that much better.

Good call, spike.

Weekend Box Office: Guardians of the Galaxy Reclaims No. 1 Spot, Becomes Summer's Biggest Hit.

And from that article, the new Sin City movie tanked. $6.5 million on its opening weekend. Ouch.
Too bad the next Marvel movie is a whopping 9 months away

Bahahaha. Well that escalated quickly...
You have to wonder if Marvel has benefitted...
Gary from The East End : Admin : 8/24/2014 7:57 pm : link
...from having their most well-known characters taken by other studios.

I mean, Spider-Man, everyone knows him. You make a Spidey movie and you don't have to try that hard. You can make a plain superhero movie and people will come see it.

Thor or Iron Man or Captain America, you have to work those some to get people in the theater.
I cant wait for that scene

I didn't even know Sin City was released this week. I have barely seen any ads for it. I saw one commercial that looked like Mickey Rourke's "Marv" was in it.
We must watch different TV shows.

I agree, but as crappy as that movie was, it still made a buttload of money.

If you made a Thor movie like that, you'd be lucky to pull in a hundred million domestic.

Marvel Studios didn't make that film. It's a Sony/Columbia Pictures movie.
Agree with most everyone here
