I just want to see the wounded practicing today
SGMen : 8/25/2014 9:59 am : link
Thursday night is coming up and I am praying that WR Beckham actually practices and plays. Even if he plays on a few series and has two balls thrown to him he'll at least get his feet wet. Now, if his hammy is still delicate I am for waiting it out and having him come out during the season at some point. No point in pushing it as he's already missed most of camp.

Lets see if Prince and Mosley can go today as well.
What is the point of conducting a practice
NewBlue : 8/25/2014 10:36 am : link
With guys who will be cut today?
Just announce the cuts....unless they are waiting for more injuries at today's practice
Beckham should be the Temp IR candidate.

He has a Sean Bennett type Hammy

These tweets suck
robbieballs2003 : 8/25/2014 1:00 pm : link
There is no tweet in over ten minutes and then Connor tells us Painters is connecting a bunch deep. I'm not asking for a play by play but there has to be something in the middle. Also, there is barely any mention of the defense at all unless it is an interception thrown by one of our QBs or our OL not blocking. It is very offense orientated.
I really just don't understand why Jernigan hasn't fallen behind
Riggies : 8/25/2014 1:00 pm : link
at least Washington on the pecking order.

I get that they're going to carry him this year (for various reasons), but it's not like he's some long-term investment that they've got to keep trying to make happen. This is his last year here. If he looks like crap, down the chain he should go.
and Connor
robbieballs2003 : 8/25/2014 1:02 pm : link
this isn't a knock on you. This is just a general observation about all the beat writers. One person isn't going to be on their phone texting the whole practice but as a group it would be nice to see more information coming out.
Beckham's injury might be the only thing that saves Jernigan

Mara has nothing to do with that decision. That is the coaching staff plus Reese. I just don't see the Giants going into the season wihout at least 3 veterans. If you only have Cruz and Randle you are on thin ice if either is hurt. Yes, the young UFA's have looked good in pre-season and that is the point: it is just pre-season. I think JJ makes the roster simply because he is in year 3 and has real game experience. It isn't pretty and shows how much we lack with an injured Backham not showcasing his talents so we can make better assessments.
CH,

saying the offense had a decent day. That's good to hear. Perhaps things are sinking in and people are getting adjusted now.
TRADE MANNING

THE OL IS SWISS CHEE....oh wait, they had a good at practice. Maybe the season isn't lost. lol fuckin bbi
JJ's kind of been in a catch 22
PEEJ : 8/25/2014 1:37 pm : link
situation. He's been playing with the ones as an outside guy when his best position is the slot. And, he hasn't been getting reps at the slot with the twos.
A continuation from the Jet Game
Jacob's Ladder : 8/25/2014 1:49 pm : link
Offense is showing more signs of life.

There was an article a few weeks back about Rivers having a rough go of it early when they switched to a WCO . It took him the entire preseason and a few games of up and down play but then he went on to have a fantastic season.

The growing pains for this type of switch seem quite real however I think we are going to see a big bounceback year for Eli in this type of offense (much more QB/WR friendly once you get it).
I was a JJ

Mario. But, TC won't cut JJ unless he gets injured..
Hey Eric you would like this one
BIG FRED : 8/25/2014 2:06 pm : link
a Giants fan called wfan and said Reese's draft have not been good since 2009 and both Evan and Joe disagreed lol ..
With my untrained eye
Jacob's Ladder : 8/25/2014 2:11 pm : link
I see a guy in Jernigan who is best suited as a role player that does well in plays designed for him and utilized in limited package of plays that he excels at.

I think he can have the occasional big game (like we saw in the last 3 games last year) if he is used that way.

Odell,Cruz,Randle are definites.

Washington has pretty much all but locked up a spot (what more can a guy do then what he's done?)

Mario looks cooked unfortunately so unless he is supposed to heal up I don't think he makes it.

That leaves two (2) spots if we keep six.

Parker has warmed on me enough that it might make me think about him and Harris over JJ.

Nobody else has shown enough to consider taking them over Jernigan in my opinion. Also Harris' injury may impact this decision making process too.

How about we need Eli Manning to step up?

I think John Jerry is key. He is a veteran, big body who was hurt and is now rounding into form. Lets face it, if he isn't his best by opening day we are in trouble. One rookie on the OL is doable but two inexperienced guards spells doom. Beatty-Richburg-Walton-Jerry-Pugh and we run right a lot.
Jerry
Sy'56 : 8/25/2014 3:08 pm : link
is a poor man's Kevin Boothe when playing guard. Disappointed in his movement...I was a big supporter of his in 2010 (#3 overall guard) and I was happy about the signing based off what I saw in Miami. I felt he could have been the best or second best guard on this team by September.

But he looks awkward in this blocking scheme, as he just doesn't have the flexibility in his hips and ankles that he used to. I think he can get the job done as a run blocker, but he is yet another weak link to the passing game.
Well Big Fred,
Mike L. : 8/25/2014 3:12 pm : link
If you compare it to most other drafts over the last 15 years, the last five have not been terrible. In fact the year Shockey was drafted ('01?) he was the only player we netted out of that draft. The draft in '05 was good, but netted only 3 players due to Eli trade in '04. Most of the NYG drafts net about 3 starters, the last five to seven years are no exception. I would also think the NYG, on average, are better than most regarding the draft, but I could be wrong. People on here think we should be getting impact players in rounds 4-7, but it rarely the case. In addition, they don't factor in UDFA, such as Cruz, or does the front office get no credit for that???

Yes, we need Eli being able to step up in the pocket for once. Good call!
NYG drafts in comparison
Sy'56 : 8/25/2014 3:17 pm : link
to the league...they are about average....If i had to ballpark a ranking I would say between 12-15. There are some teams that net 2-3 players over the course of 2-3 years that make a legit impact and/or earn a multi year contracrt once their rookie year is done.
Are those teams
AnishPatel : 8/25/2014 3:25 pm : link
good or decent franchises or are they bottom dwellers?

Hmm... the Pats are among the worse drafters but they never miss a beat. The QB and their head coach has a lot to with it. Another weird team is the Saints, several busts but haven't really missed a beat except that year the head coach was suspended.
Jennings
Canton : 8/25/2014 3:34 pm : link
Of anyone gets a chance, go listen to his interview today. This guy has a very high football IQ. I was hanging onto every word. He went into detail how he dissects the play before it happens. Absolutely great stuff!
Coughlin on TEs: "There will be a group of guys that will play"
Bobby Epps : 8/25/2014 3:54 pm : link
Now I understand what TC and McAdoo are planning to do with the TEs: put them ALL on the field at the same time and let them play.

This is not the WCO but the TEO- same word I always use, "pathetic".

I am beginning to believe Eric that this will be a long season because TC makes it sound that we don't plan to bring in any new TEs.
TE by committee may work
Jupiter : 8/25/2014 4:04 pm : link
RB by committee usually works.
Bullpen by committee sometimes works.
If Coughlin/McAdoo can be creative, maybe it will work here.
as long as that doesn't mean keep 4
CGiants07 : 8/25/2014 4:07 pm : link
go for it
Here is the thing about TEs (blocking aside)
UberAlias : 8/25/2014 4:25 pm : link
Week after week I watch games where the TE just sort of slips out and catches a pass virtually uncovered. But not for us. Almost Never. It is not always big guys who can run and catch causing matchup problems because they are too big for a safety to cover and too fast for a LB to cover.

I see even the guys you have to plan against like Jason Witten slipping out and catching passes unnoticed yet we can't seem to figure out how to scheme any of our no-name guys open under the radar? I don't get it. It's like when I watch and every time I see one of our defenders coming with a clear shot at the QB knowing before it develops that he is just getting bated into over pursuing on a RB screen that goes for a good chunk of yards, yet whenever we run it defenses seem to have it sniffed out right away like it was our bread and butter plan even though we never run it effectively. I don't get it.
I don't completely agree with the dont practice don't play part
UberAlias : 8/25/2014 4:37 pm : link
Getting him in the game is the best practice you can give him.

If Eli can't perform with the OL he's been given, maybe he should ask for a trade or just pack it in.

Jerry? Is that you?
And, no, I haven't heard Eli complain
Bill in UT : 8/25/2014 6:03 pm : link
the post was addressed to the guy who's doing Eli's complaining for him. That said, the OL is what the OL is. Get used to it. Before any of the players place the responsibility on anyone else, let them take a good look in the mirror

I like that. Everyone is accountable for their performance. Except the front office.
