ESPN Boston thinks Ridley could be cut. If so, Vereen becomes extremely valuable.

My draft is thur, still sticking with the same stretegy. Hoping a top 4 back falls to me at 6, if not, Calvin, Graham and D. Thomas are in play for me. Then going to try and grab one of the top 3 QB's at 15 if they are available. Unless someone like Bernard or Lynch(highly doubtful) falls to me in the 3rd, I won't be taking a RB until rd 4 at the earliest. I just don't like the 3rd tier RB's in rd's 3 and 4 just because I need a RB. The value isn't there.

I hate the strategy of not drafting a backup QB.
kmed : 8/25/2014 10:42 am : link
First off, they have so much value on the trade market. There is a legit 8-10 guys that have the upside to be fantasy starters. If someone gets hurt, your backup has a ton of value.

Also to protect your QB if he gets hurt or underproduces...see Brady.
I personally always want a strong backup QB
AnotherGiantsFan : 8/25/2014 10:42 am : link
Because an injury to your starting QB can be a season ender. But I can't blame you for not wanting to pass up on a guy like Kelvin Benjy either. I'm pissed I missed out on him by a pick. He's already the teams #1 WR with a really talented QB throwing to him. He's going to put up numbers. Excellent value pick.
I think Sankey is overdrafted...
UAGiant : 8/25/2014 10:44 am : link
Greene and McCluster have been getting all touches with the starters and Sankey missed all of the rookie mini camp, with reports being he's behind on picking up the play book. Further, Battle seems to be getting goal-line touches - so that further erodes potential.

That's not to say he won't make a push, but I really think the McCluster pickup is going to eat into anyone's productivity in TEN and seems to have some packages specifically in place for him. Further, Greene and Battle will still likely be the guy in short yardage situations - meaning a lot of TDs are going to get eaten up by them (likely Greene).

I think he's great for a dynasty, but I wouldn't touch him until 8th/9th rounds, when you can afford to put a project on your bench.
Vereen and Gronk
muhajir : 8/25/2014 10:45 am : link
Are tied at the hip. If Gronk is healthy, Vereen will kill. If Gronk goes down, defenses will key in on Vereen.

Can't remember the last time a QB was traded in my league. I think it was 3-4 years ago when I had Rodgers and Matt Ryan, and Ryan blew up. But yeah, if there is an injury to Brady I guess i'm screwed, but there's only 3 or 4 teams with legit backups anyway, and they will likely stay on their bench all season but 1 week.

I'd rather roll the dice with another player and possibly find a late round starter (like Hyde for example).

Facts do not support this, but why is that unusual

top 20 rookie RB seasons the past 20 years (and 5 come from Mike Shanahan RB's): http://www.sportingcharts.com/articles/nfl/top-20-rookie-running-back-seasons-in-the-past-20-years.aspx

top 20 rookie WR seasons the past 20 years

http://www.sportingcharts.com/articles/nfl/top-20-rookie-receiving-seasons-in-the-past-20-years.aspx

It's very close, but the 20th WR is probably better in FFL (in my ppr league).

and Mike Shanahan isn't coaching a rookie RB.

EricNY33 : 8/25/2014 10:47 am : link
I think I picked a balanced team in the standard draft 12 team PPR league I am in. I had the 10th pick

QB: Peyton Manning, Tannehill (Manning's bye week MIA plays Oakland)

RB: LeVeon Bell, Ben Tate, Chris Johnson, Carlos Hyde, Terrance West

WR: Antonio Brown, Julian Edelman, Golden Tate, Mike Evans, James Jones, Marqise Lee

TE: Jason Witten

K: Janikowski

You don't have to convince me about Shane Vereen. I love the guy. But I could have sworn I posted on here talking about how I might reach for him in round 4 and you told me that's a little too rich and should just wait in round 5. Did you taking him in the 3rd due to it being a keeper league, or did you have a change of heart on Vereen? Or do I have the wrong guy pegged?

yes, I read the Pats are considering cutting Ridley, I listened to how much Belichick hates Ridley, from the fumbles to running the wrong plays. he wants Vereen and White to be the backs. I always felt like it he were healthy vereen is a breakout candidate, but he's never healthy, so I rolled the dice.

clarify this for me....

I'm not drafting a rookie early, so I don't need a rookie to be a stud, I'm just talking about being a starter. Maybe a flex. What are the odds that a rookie RB vs a rookie WR will be fantasy relevant? Doesn't mean they have to be Clinton Portis.

I definitely would not do it. First, I think Bell will be slightly more productive than Bush this year and second, you can get a much better player in the 3rd rd, IMO.

The guy above has Sankey as his RB2. It's admittedly not a good spot to be, but would you rather have sankey as your RB2 or Sammy Watkins as your WR2?

Neither are good propositions, but right now Sankey is backing up Greene and McCluster (though that's a technicality but that's how the depth chart reads).

I think he is being over drafted. I over drafted him. But they have the most un-dynamic backfield in the NFL without him. Sooner or later he will be their full time starter, just a matter of when. Hopefully its before mid-season. If so I think i'll be in good shape. McCluster won't get carries so he's literally all they have. Greene is a pitiful runner.

10 team league... Standard scoring (money league). Picked 8th:

Qb: Aaron Rodgers
Rb: Rashad Jennings
Rb: CJ Spiller
Wr: Alshon Jeffrey
Wr: Cordarelle Patterson
Te: Jimmy Graham
Flex: Shane Vereen

Bn: Nick Foles
Bn: Jeremy Maclin
Bn: Hakeem Nicks
Bn: Josh Gordon
Bn: Andre Williams
Bn: Golden Tate
K: Blair Walsh
DEF: Rams

I'm willing to bet that your first 6 picks were very similar to what I picked in my mock draft, I have the 8th pick. The only differences was that I was able to get Randall Cobb and Fred Jackson.

If my real draft goes similar to the mock (see below) I think I may really like my team. I would like to have picked up one more receiver though, instead of a RB.

QBs- Brees,C. Palmer
RBs- R. Jennings, Spiller, Fred Jackson, Moreno, Sproles
WRs- Cobb, Jeffery, Hilton
TE- Graham, M. Bennett
Defense- 49ers
Kicker- Prater (not picking him up now due to his suspension)
yeah I'd much rather Sankey my RB2
UConn4523 : 8/25/2014 10:54 am : link
than Watkins my WR2. Zero question about it.
I traded Matt Ryan (my backup) and Julian Edelman
allstarjim : 8/25/2014 10:55 am : link
Last season prior to week 3 for Jamaal Charles. That trade led me to the championship game (that I lost). I doubt I will get that lucky again, but Files slipped and I drafted him as a backup, and I may try to trade him for a RB (obviously won't get a Jamaal Charles again). There are some guys who are counting on Kaepernick to get them there, ain't gonna happen.

Well I forgot to mention that the following guys were kept and not available:

Aaron Rodgers, DeMarco Murray, A.J. Green, Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson, LeSean McCoy, Matt Forte, Jimmy Graham, Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, and Jamal Charles. My keeper was Peyton Manning.

I actually got Bell in the 3rd round. I could've gone Doug Martin, Zac Stacy, or Alfred Morris there.

I'm fine with that if that's even how it happens. Blount will get plenty of touches and all goalline work. I'm fine with a weak RB2 until Sankey is the fulltime starter.

But the Sankey stuff seems overblown. Too much talent to let sit, and they could be downplaying his role, who knows.

AnotherGiantsFan : 8/25/2014 11:00 am : link
And regret it, but I don't fear a suspension at all. He's not going to miss any games. It's Blount taking away carries and goal line carries that bothers me.

Bell won't be suspended this year because the CBA doesn't have suspension parameters for DUI's. The Steelers could suspend him, but not the NFL. Dwayne Bowe got arrested for speeding and marijuana possession last November and is serving his one game suspension on opening day.

The losing touches to Blount thing doesn't bother me because Bell is also a good receiving back and this is a PPR league.

Didn't bell also test positive for marijuana? He wasn't drunk, he was driving on marijuana.

Well if you're arrested for a DUI you test positive for that substance, but from what I am reading the NFL won't act until the legal process has run its course.

The 12 team league I did my draft in already is QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 Flex, TE, D/ST, K

It makes you dig deep and not only care a lot about the back of the draft, but to keep a close eye on the wire. It's a little boring when every starter is a stud.

Yeah love deeper leagues makes you work every week to put out a good lineup..no easy wins and no superteams...you have to atually pick players up and make moves to win...

My 12 team league Qb 2 RB 3 WR 1 TE 1 K 1 Def 6 BN...15 round draft...takes us about 3-4 hours for the draft...

My 10 team league 1 QB 2 RB 2 Wr 1 Flex (RB, WR, TE) 1 TE 1 K 1 Def...17 round Draft takes about 2 hours...

1 is Saturday the other is Monday night love draft nights..
I'm considering taking Graham in the first regardless the pick I have.

Did three mocks last night. Standard scoring.
RB-WR-RB, TE-QB-WR and RB-RB-RB.

TEAM 1 (RB-WR-RB)
QB: Romo, Cutler
RB: Charles, Morris, Sankey, S. Jax and Sproles.
WR: Marshall, R.White, Cruz, Colston and Cooper
TE: V.Davis

TEAM 2 (TE-QB-WR)
QB: Rodgers, Dalton
RB: Sankey, Richardson, S. Jax, Sproles
WR: J.Jones, Garcon, Cruz, Decker, Cooper
TE: Graham

TEAM 3 (RB-RB-RB)
QB: Wilson, Rivers, Dalton
RB: Charles, Bernard, Morris, S. Jax
WR: Garcon, Fitz, Hilton, E.Sanders, Cooks
TE: Clay

If Im going Graham RD1 I'm hoping to get pick 6 or later but sill debating taking him with pick 1-5. Its crazy I know. I think TEAM 2 would be better if I didn't take Rodgers and went with a Bell or Foster late in RD2.

I am guessing you went WR 1-2 which worked for you got a very good 1-2 punch with a very good 3rd WR in White...

I dont think your RB situation is that bad..I am souring on Stacy more and more though...I think by the end of the season you will be starting Jennings and Mathews With Sankey as your 3rd RB...I like Sankey i know many here are worried about him but i think he eventually he is the starter in Tennessee...

Kaepernick hopefully is healthy last year he dealt with a foot injury for most of the year...you may be starting Rivers a lot though...he is really good in that new offense they installed last year and he has some weapons..
