...the all-clear has been given. Very little information given beyond that, apparently.
Quote:
The incident was reported at the CASCOM HQ, building 5020, around 9:15 a.m., according to Fort Lee. Officials called the incident a 'police emergency' and asking everyone to stay indoors. The installation was locked down and all personnel were asked to enact active shooter protocols.
An email sent to service members around 30 minutes later said law enforcement has given the all clear except for the CASCOM building.
At this point there are few details of the initial report or of why the all clear was issued. Officials are now telling the community to resume normal activities
Kids have to be out by middle/end of may to plant. Last day of school is 5/20 unless there are snow days to make up.
That's what the school year in the NE is based on, too. It's just that planting/harvesting happen at different times depending on location. That, and almost nobody depends on their kids as farm hands anymore.
Yeah my district started even earlier than that...
Rural areas had two school sessions a year in winter and summer to account for farming while urban schools went basically year round- 4 quarters with a week break in between.
In the early 1900's they reformed and basically compromised- added days to rural areas to get up to 180-200 and took away days in urban districts.
They chose the summer months so that kids could be outside and because of cited health reasons of being cooped up in a schoolhouse during the summer months (among other things).
A female soldier with a gun who caused a lockdown on Monday at Fort Lee in Virginia shot and wounded herself, the Army installation said in a statement after the all-clear was given.
"Early reports indicate the soldier turned the weapon on herself and fired one shot, injuring herself," the statement said. "The soldier was transported to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. Her condition is not known at this time."
It said special agents from the Army Criminal Investigation Command were investigating.
Earlier, the Army post's website reported an "active shooter incident" at Building 5020 of the Combined Arms Support Command headquarters and the installation was locked down.
Less than an hour later, the lockdown was partially lifted, limited to one building and a main gate, before being entirely lifted.
Fort Lee is near Petersburg, Virginia, about 30 miles south of Richmond and 135 miles south of Washington.
I'd like to think that the last thing that went through his head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how the hell Andy Dufresne ever got the best of him.

Someone said the person was a female on the third floor and had barricaded herself into an office. Not sure how accurate that is.
The base is all clear but the building has the wonderful police tape around it now. They waited until the all clear to put the tape out....go figure.
Maybe in the NE.
Started 8/14 and earlier here in the Midwest.
