Connor, since you reviewed the starting OL in detail and I believe Richburg had numerous first team OL snaps after Schwartz went down, would you add some observations / assessments of Richburg's play?
in the first half I felt McClain was too shallow in his drops there. On the play action TE TD I think both Kennard and McClain picked up the same guy down low at first, leaving the guy wide open up top. Whether that's a miscommunication or error on one of their parts I couldn't tell, but if proximity had anything to do with assignment McClain was in the wrong there.
I have not been very impressed with Jameel McClain this preseason. He's flashed a few times on blitzes, but has not finished a bunch of plays. He also struggled to stack and shed against the Jets. I'm curious to see how formations and playing time amongst the linebackers is affected when Beason returns.
Eric, i agree with you that Hankins can be a special player for us. He has busted in to the backfield for a TFL every game this preseason. He was also commanding a high amount of double teams against the jets. I think the 3-techniques who play alongside Hankins will have plenty of opportunities to make plays this season. Definitely part of the reason why Jenkins stood out this past game.
If he stays healthy and continues to hone his craft, i see Hankins becoming a Vince Wilfork-type force for us.
Nassib was in on the 20 yd drive after the fumble to open the 2nd Â
"During the early portions of the Giants training camp, few looked as lost as Ryan Nassib on the practice field. Heck, that continued in the first two games of the preseason, too."
Sounds like what's being reported from practices isn't extremely accurate based on that comment. Did Nassib make a few mistakes in the 1st 2 games - sure, but he played well.
Also, I didn't see Mosley getting blown up all over the place. If that's truly the case, why worry about him being out???
Nice review guys. I wholeheartedly agree with Connor that the OL Â
is a major problem. Richburg should be moving to C already, why wait? Beatty was encouraging. They are still 2 quality players and some time to gel as a unit away from not being hazardous to Eli's heath anymore. This line says it all:
"It doesn’t matter who the Giants have at running back, quarterback, receiver or tight end. If the guys up front can’t block, it won’t matter."
If he stays healthy and continues to hone his craft, i see Hankins becoming a Vince Wilfork-type force for us.
That Oline has to improve. If Walton sucks, why not try Richburg at his natural position and let Walton warm the bench???
