Schofield was set to turn his success as a member of the Super Bowl champion Seahawks into a lucrative contract this offseason. Schofield agreed to terms on a two-year, $8 million deal to join the New York Giants only to have the deal voided after he failed his physical.
Schofield said he has a bone-on-bone issue in his left knee. It's the same knee in which he suffered a torn ACL during Senior Bowl practices in 2010. However, Schofield said it has never affected his ability to perform on the field.

Anyway, he has like two sacks and four tackles for losses in three preseason games. Damn what was Jerry thinking, signing this guy? Thank goodness BBI and other Giant fans rose up in outrage causing him to back out of the contract or we would have been screwed. Screwed, I tell you..

Sincerely
Jerry Reese
By the way, I think Schofield failed the physical.
Not seriously but worth noting that a few people felt that the Giants "failed" him based on the overall reaction in the media to the signing...
The usual sources for information about contracts don't have any incentive to talk about it. Either the Giants or his agent would gain anything or more likely in the Giants case, care enough about the overpayment issue to release those details to make themselves look good.
lol.. this. My opinion on the Schofield deal is known so I won't get into it, but this has to be one of the dumbest threads I've seen in a while.
Jerry Reese backing out on the deal has nothing to do with BBI's outrage, and even if it did, he wouldn't have been proven wrong because he has two preseason sacks.
Wow.
The team who watched him practice every day for the past year offered him only a one year deal for 730k.
that's how much they love him. I believe that's vet min.
and furthermore who cares about pre-season sats. Justin trattou and Adewale Ojomo probably have double-digit pre-season stats.

the Giants GM backed out a contract because he reads BBI?

Huh? Do you actually think it wasn't said in jest? That even ONE person believes BBI has anything to do with Giants' decisions?
beason had no agent so nyg
tricked him
The OP wrote in part:
He was being totally facetious..
This is a really stupid thing to post about any further, though.
"Our defense is a 4-3 scheme with 3-4 personnel. It's just utilizing the special talents of our guys." "
So Schofield may not have fit into our scheme at all.

I was surprised our staff deemed that he was not healthy enough to sign because it sure didn't look that way to me.
Yeah, it's preseason, I get that. But the dude was in the backfield pressuring the QB on like every other play I saw. He certainly looked good.
But we should probably not re-hash this whole argument.
You might want to look up the word narcissism. This thread has zero to do with me. And I hope the irony of you bringing up reading comprehension on a thread where you seem to be misunderstanding the simplest rules of sarcasm isn't lost on you.
Again dipshit, read my comment. If he's sarcastic when he says it's a good thing Reese cut bait, then he believes the opposite is the truth. That we should've kept him... This based on two preseason sacks.
I'm sorry about your teeth.
But unfortunately that means the Seahawks are going to benefit by being able to retain a good role player at a reasonable cost which normally contenders aren't able to do once they're eligible for free agency. (His former Seattle teammate Walter Thurmond is a clear cut example)
Bone on Bone is quite different. Nothing to invest in for the longer term
Would you give 8M for someone with that condition?
We have given big contracts to players who can't stay on the field....we are going to give one to someone who fails a physical, and his next bad step could be the end of his career?
Mantle was a freak of nature...he was a "Natural"....will always remember the story of him and Williams talking about hitting....Williams tells Mantle all the nuances of his swing....Mantle shakes his head...."I just swing as hard as I can"....How Mantle ever put up those numbers with two bad knees and a bum shoulder, will always amaze me....
Is this sarcasm? :-)

8M guaranteed? No. And that's certainly not how the deal would have been structured.
