As for Manning and the reg season, if he's making bad mistakes out there you have to bench him just like you would any other player. Let him get his head and get back in the game unless Nassib is in control.

Even in your defense, you talk about next year. By inference, the OP seems to be discussing this year.

Unless somebody can separate Eli's possible woes from the possible woes of the OL, it is not a very smart discussion at all.

Manning needs to play at least two series this week with the first team. Nassib should take over a series with the first team OL at least in place before the reserves come in. Your starter is Eli and he needs work in this new offense.

he really craps the bed, he's our guy and will be all season. like it or not, coughlin values seniority and loyalty highly and eli is both senior and loyal.

I thought it was a legit question. I understand that no QB could succeed behind last year's line, but Eli made a lot of unforced errors, too. Like someone said, if Eli really does stink again, you need to find out about Nassib before the draft. And speaking for myself, I don't want to watch another 27 INT performance if it can be avoided.

The people who called me a troll (whatever that is) need to be a little more tolerant of other opinions. After all, if we can't express our opinions, what's the point of having a discussion board? I hope Eli's status as the starter isn't an issue for this year, but if he bombs again, this may be the first of many such threads.

We've seen what eli does with even a decent line. We never even got to see that with archie.

It won't be because of the team record. It won't be whether the offense is ineffective.

Eli's downfall (and the team's) may be if he averages more than 1 interception per game, 16 for the season. It was all the interceptions in the first 6 games last year that killed the season.

If it's not going well they can simplify the offense and go with some wildcat packages for Williams with Nassib coming in to change the pace a bit. Move Pugh to LT, kick Beatty to G, and hope Cleveland releases Mack mid season. If only the Giants would have taken Zach Martin and Aaron Donald in the first round. Instead they're stuck with Beckham who could be released and not even make the 46 who dress every week. I'd kick the tires on Incognito to shore up the offensive line and maybe see if Terrell Thomas has any has left in the tank. Speaking of simplifying - i think Fewell should only be given a couple weeks. He either simplifies or he's gone. Problems pretty much solved.

Sorry but Eli has earned his right to play out his contract and that's that. He's also earned the right to have a full season to get this new offense clicking

Eli isn't injured, he isn't dumber, and he isn't old for prime QB play.

If the Giants are 0-5 and Eli has twice as many picks as TDs, the problem won't be with Eli. The picks and record will be a symptom of something else.

Besides its a fairly entertaining reading the threads that dissect whether it was Eli or (fill in the blank receiver here) at fault on every single interception.

Joe Montana was traded at age 34, Steve Young retired at 38, but really didn't play much at all until he was 30.
Peyton Manning was released by Indy at 35 and Indy went with Luck. Aikman (I know it was injury) retired at 34. Donnovan McNabb left Philly at 33 and retired at 35.

So some QB's just lose it, and some organizations are just willing to move on.

In the case of SF, They decided the long time journyman, turned into great QB was ready to take over.
In the case of P Manning, Indy decided it was time.
In the case of McNabb, Philly decided to move on. NE moved on from Bledsoe when he was about 30, and put in a 6th round Tom Brady (the 4th string QB his rookie year)

So that Nassib might blossom in his 2nd year and be ready to go this year or next is not unheard of. The Giants might decide that it is time to get ready for the next chapter

in August that you'd give Eli 16 games. If the Giants and Eli, in particular, are playing like crap through 8 weeks and we're something like 2-6, I'd bet most would start calling for Nassib to get a look.

There's no set number in my mind, but if he performs at a way below sub standard level, without showing improvement, you bench him. His stats can't be hidden. They will give him every opportunity to succeed, but after last year, he doesn't just get 16 games.

It's been a while since I've been on BBI. I had no idea this is where people stood regarding Manning. The guy is 33 with no major injuries, he's given us 2 super bowl victories. I can't believe there's this talk of ever benching the guy. I know the concerns, but still, when Eli is gone we will have regretted every second we didn't appreciate him while he was here.

Preseason means absolutely nothing. Both teams are trying things they wouldn't necessarily try in an actual game. It's all practice. Eli does not need to prove shit in the preseason, he's proven himself already in the last 10 years he's been here.

We will miss Eli when he is gone.

Right now Eli doesn't look particularly good, was awful last year and the end of 2012 he and his team was totaled in those important games.Because he won two SB's seems to mean he must play into perpetuity. During the super bowl seasons the team was just average. Whatever, hope Eli gets going but he looks awkward in the new system. He's a pocket passer who isn't too mobile in avoiding the rush who can drill those downfield balls when they count. Throwing on the run, doing short stuff, screens fades slants pitchouts etc not so much.

to look far to see other QB's who put up poor numbers with terrible OL's but are considered good QB's. I already mentioned Archie Manning earlier, but bad OL's have made many good QB's look horrific at times. For all the shit we like romo to get, a lot of it is due to his OL. Look at Matt ryan last year. Look at Flacco.

Archie Manning went several years with mediocre stats as he ran for his life, but then again, that was before the time of a lot of internet morons not understanding the game trying to play armchair GM.

Let's assume that Manning will have "a functioning OL" this season. He would still have to complete the majority of his passes, to be considered competent and keep his job. If the Giants have no passing game with "a functioning OL", then it will effect the running game, and eventually the entire offense, OL included.

Also, if Manning continues to throw interception, while having "a functioning OL," then it's time to consider other options.
