Precursor: I'm aware that more established, more talented linemen might be released during the next wave of cuts but there were a few cut over the last few days that might be good depth, developmental players or practice squad guys. I realize the likelihood of finding a starter on the waiver wire is extremely slim.
OG Mike McGlynn: 6'4" 325 pounds. 29 yeards old. 4th round pick of the Eagles in 2008. Played for the Redskins, Bengals and Colts. Can also play center, but best position is guard. Journeyman type who can fill in as a serviceable starter.
OG Antoine Caldwell: 6'3" 315 pounds. 28 years old. 3rd round pick of the Texans in 2009. Again serviceable player, and can also play center but is a much better guard. Giants had interest in him as a free agent.
OG Adam Gettis: 6'2, 305 pounds. 25 years old. 5th round draft pick of the Redskins in 2012. I liked him coming out of Iowa and even started a few games for the Redskins. May have fallen out of favor with the new coaching staff. Is more of a technician.
OG Dylan Gandy: 6'3", 295 pounds. 32 years old. Career back-up. 4th round pick of the Colts. Has stayed in the league by being an effort player. One of the weakest options on this list.
OG Julian Vandervelde: 6'2", 300 pounds. 26 years old. Drafted in the 5th round by the Eagles in 2011 and spent time with the Buccaneers before returning to the Eagles. Played tackle at Iowa, but primarily guard in the NFL. Was asked to play center and couldn't make the transition.
OT Michael Bamiro: 6'8", 340 pounds. 23 years old. An athletic freak with huge size. Very raw and needs refinement. After missing the draft, he chose to sign with the Eagles over the Giants. Played mostly tackle at Stony Brook. Has talent and might be best on the practice squad.
OC Gabe Ikard: 6'4", 304 pounds. 23 years old. Was a middle round prospect as a center, but went undrafted. Signed by the Titans. I liked him a bit coming out of Oklahoma and was surprised that he wasn't drafted. Very smart player. Played primarily center and not sure if he would be able to transition to guard or not. Practice squad/developmental player.
OC Tyler Larsen: 6'4", 313 pounds. 23 years old. Very similar to Ikard. Was a middle round prospect as a center, but went undrafted. Signed by the Dolphins. Again, Played primarily center and not sure if he would be able to transition to guard or not. Practice squad/developmental player.
At this point we're just looking for guys who can do a professional job.
If someone has a "bubble" OT (54th man) maybe we try to trade a conditional pick much like we did with the Broncos and K McManus. A waived guy has 31 other teams to look at so no guarantee we even get a sniff.
At the end of the day, I think we start the season as follows:
Beatty-Richburg-Walton-Jerry-Pugh. It won't be pretty but they spent the off-season with us so we just have to hope we can at least run with this group and throw short
if a player is waived now also means no one had much interest in him
which is nice.
Isn't he a guy with a lot of issues? I don't think the Giants wanted to touch him in the draft
If Schwartz comes back at LG and Jerry wins the starting RG spot, the Giants may be the only team in the league with starting guards that outweigh both of their starting tackles.
Schwartz will come back to right guard where he should have been from the beginning, or maybe right tackle if beatty cant perform and pugh moves to the left tackle spot
or mosley goes to right tackle and Schwartz to right guard
or someone gets picked up next week after final cuts
or I don't know shit and am just a fan taking wild guesses
