cuts and waiver wires

hankb1126 : 8/26/2014 9:17 pm
why do people think all of these other teams cannot evaluate there talent if player had any value he would at least make final cuts

and teams would try to hide them on practice squads

or trade them like patriots just did with mankins
Because some teams

may let a vet go at this stage of the game to help them land with a team before the competition gets tougher with the next round of cuts out of respect.
And sometimes teams evaluate guys

there's always money...if you can get the same or close to performance from two guys one make 3mil the other 1.2.....it's easy. Plus the guy making less is usually the younger guy who probably will get better.....

If Victor Cruz had any value, wouldn't 't he have been drafted?

was cut what, 3 times? It happens. It's rare, but it does happen.
sometimes a player
YAJ2112 : 8/26/2014 10:29 pm : link
may not fit one team's scheme but may fit another. Sometimes a player may not respond to one coaching style but may to another....
it's a numbers game, usually

so you're telling me it's never happened that a waiver wire claim never did any good in the NFL?
Corey Washington

was cut by the Cards before they even needed to make cuts! Think he won't be any good?
Do you thnk all 32 teams are equally strong at each position?
j_rud : 8/27/2014 12:40 am : link
Some teams are deeper at certain positions. Sometimes it means a serviceable player ends up getting cut. Meanwhile, some teams are thinner at certain positions. See where I'm going with this?
The Giants cut Cameron Wake...

And aren't we the best at finding pass rushing talent? How'd he turn out?
cuts
hankb1126 : 8/27/2014 2:38 am : link
yes you used to see vets getting cut when this week was to 60 not now when it is at 75!!!!!!!!!
Is this an actual question?
Randy in CT : 8/27/2014 6:20 am : link
Because all teams acquire players this way.
you could probably field a championship team

With guys that have been cut at one point or another.

Not everybody is ready to make a 53 man roster right out of college. Some need a year or two on the PS first.

You do realize that every single player on every single practice squad got there because they were cut, right?
Hixon, Hedgecock.

Will not be a factor. He will be depth this year. If he has 20 catches this year (regular season) I'll eat my hat!
...
SamTheTram : 8/27/2014 8:37 am : link
Hixon, Derrick Ward, and Kevin Boothe were 3 cuts from other squads that turned into contributors to superbowl runs. That's just off the top of my head
Sometimes it's a numbers thing...
PeterS : 8/27/2014 10:03 am : link
you can't carry 5 tight ends so someone has to go. Doesn't make him a bad player simply makes him expendable.
Johnny Unitas was a 9th-round pick later cut by his hometown Steelers

How'd he turn out?
