I'm thinking about taking a trip to Nashville with my wife to see our beloved Giants in December and was looking for some suggestions on areas to stay, things to do, restaurants, etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
bc I'm heading to Nashville for work in 2 weeks, never been there before either, going to stay an extra day or two to sightsee...any recommendations for food or sights are welcome!
I also hear the BBQ is incredible....determining which one is good? I always go to Guy's DD&D shows to see where he visited in that city. I've done this twice and I've had the best meals I've ever had following his recs....
of Nashville. I guess if you like country music it would be more appealing. I admittedly didn't get far from the main drag (and the Gaylord Opryland). I had some real good BBQ at a casual place right on the main street. Lots of bars with live music. And lots of places to buy cowboy boots!
I was looking at hotels in downtown, and they looked crazy expensive ($350+). Any other neighborhoods that that are a reasonable walk to downtown or cheap uber ride?
My wife is the country music fan, me not so much. I'm more looking forward to the bbq!
And yes, I think a pre-game tailgate will be in order.
and I try to stay at Hilton brand hotels when I travel. If I'm not staying downtown I like to stay at a Double Tree Inn near the airport on Atrium way. It is nothing fancy but it is a very clean hotel, all the rooms are suites, and it is reasonably priced. Just a 10 minute ride and you are parked downtown.
Go to Broadway and wander in and out of the bars- every bar has live music and it's not all country. Find what you like. The bands work for tips so . . .
The Ryman has concerts. It depends on who is in town. Check the schedule. Nashville is not just country any longer.
The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home) is worth the trip to see what life was like in the 1830's and 40's.
If you have a car, take a trip to Franklin. Very nice town with lots of shops and restaurants you can stroll in an out of.
The Predators play hockey within walking distance of the football stadium if you are interested.
In terms of Civil War sites, there is an old fort if the weather is nice next to the Sounds ballpark. Great views of the whole area. There is a house in Franklin that was right in the middle of the Battle of Franklin that has a good tour.
Opryland Mall obviously has shopping and restaurants and the Grand Ol Opry if your are interested.
I am going there in November for 3 weeks with work. Haven't got around to planning anything yet. Lots of good ideas on this thread so far. I'm hoping to avoid spending 3 weeks going to the main drag and bars constantly but until now that is all I really knew about the city.
I think Nashville is the #1 city people start threads asking about
The Ryman Auditorium is in interesting tour, especially if you like country music, but even if you are not a big fan some of the history of it is still interesting.
"Each year, the Americana Music Festival & Conference brings together legendary artists, the next generation of rising stars and industry professionals for four days of music and education. Our event will take place September 17-21, 2014, gathering thousands of artists, fans and industry professionals from all over the world in Nashville, TN"
stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Nashville which is right downtown and about 6 blocks from the River-front/Entertainment district. The stadium is on the other side of the river so within walking distance if you don't mind a short hike.
We absolutely loved Nashville and look forward to going back. If you're a beer-lover I'd highly recommend the Brew-Bus tour which hits 4 local breweries - all of which were delicious.
There's also a Segway tour that takes you around downtown and visits many history sites. Totally worth it

The link isn't very informative yet, though.
