Retired NFL player Sean Gilbert, who wants to replace NFL Players Association chief DeMaurice Smith, released a formal platform Tuesday highlighted by a plan to terminate the league's collective bargaining agreement and including support for an 18-game season as what he called a "carrot" to draw financial concessions elsewhere from owners.
Smith, whose contract is set to expire in 2015, presided over the 2011 CBA that led to a three-year reduction of the league's salary cap. Gilbert said in a conference call that the deal has shifted $2.5 billion to owners from what players would have received under the previous CBA. If the current deal continues to its expiration in 2021, Gilbert projected a total transfer of $10 billion.
Summarizing his pitch to players, Gilbert quoted Ronald Reagan: "Are the players better off today than they were four years ago?"
Gilbert said he had proof that owners have violated the CBA's collusion rules, which if true would allow for early termination. He would not reveal details and said he had a "different set of facts" than those raised in a separate NFLPA lawsuit claiming the NFL had a secret salary cap during the uncapped 2010 offseason.
The platform makes 22 points on how Gilbert would proceed if and when he terminates the CBA, including demands for:
• A $1 million minimum salary
• Reducing rookie contracts to three years, with renegotiation allowed after one
• Free agency after three years
• Removing commissioner Roger Goodell from his role as "judge, jury and executioners on matters of players' discipline"
• Roster size increasing from 53 to 57
• 100 percent cash spending of the annual salary cap
• A contract dissolution benefit that awards players 10 percent of nonguaranteed money lost after early termination of a contract.

my thoughts exactly, Britt. Gilbert is out of his mind if he thinks he can deliver on all of these things in the next CBA negotiation.
This plan of Gilbert's is a joke. His so called evidence is ridiculous. Players have moved. Players have made more money. Massive contracts are being dolled out.
Remember this is the guy who advised Revis to be come an one year at a time mercenary for hire rather then a superstar with the Jets. Sure maybe he would have made a few football dollars less, but wow he could have made millions more in marketing and endorsements. Now Revis has been to Tampa Bay amd Mew England and no one even talks about him...Good Work Sean....idiot

I made the point last year that these west coast style offenses vs say, what Gilbride does ,is out of necessity due to the reduced practices and training camp activities, because you simply can't teach the same kind of gameplans, the time isn't there to install and practice unless it's simplified. Sure, Goodells assholery with increasing offense at the expense of defense and special teams play as a marketing ploy also plays into it, but realistically I don't think anyone could teach and play what we did a few years ago, there just isn't the time ti implement it. If they do what he wasn't roster continuity will be totally destroyed, and with the practices the way they are and only 2 preseason games I think you wind up fielding a shit product, as player mass and speed continue to increase, and more injuries will be the result.
Far as the players getting hosed they wanted lighter practice workloads and got it, and Injuries are through the roof all around the league since the current CBA came into effect.
Can they push for it? Sure they can push for it but I don't think they get it.I suppose maybe his threats aren't idle and he actually can prove collusion which might force a new CBA depending what a judge says, but players are trainwrecks as they are, far as discipline goes, and If I were the owners no way do I show any flexibility as far as sharing discipline with the NFLPA as they have a track record of being totally biased and ALWAYS side with the players in any disciplinary disputes.
Extended season and 2 preseason games will screw the quality of the game up.I don't like the idea of shorter contracts either, renegotiations and minimal payouts. Encourages shitbirds to do nothing and still get 10%.
If I'm not mistaken they have a 50/50 split no? If that goes any higher and the owners are the minority money makers they therefore have less say and at that point the players are effectively calling the shots.
If all these suggestions were adopted, along with more of the same bullshit from Goodell I see the game entering into a long slow decline where in 15 years some other sport is the top game in the US.
