Trindon Holliday

Bluenatic : 8/27/2014 10:37 am
What a shame it is that Trindon Holliday hasn't been able to get onto the field this summer. Most roster projections I've seen have not included him, and with good reason. But the kid has world class speed and is a threat to take every kick and punt he fields to the house. He's a true special teams weapon. An X-factor type. Certainly a more dynamic player than Preston Parker. But he just can't get on the field.

I think back to that playoff game against Baltimore in 2012. Holliday scored on both a punt and a kickoff. He also scored 4 other times on returns over the past 2 regular seasons.

When was the last time the Giants had a threat like that at the return position? Ron Dixon?

Get on the field, Holliday.

The Harris injury helps his chances a bit

But I agree, it does seem like he's more likely out than in. I also agree that it'd be a shame if he doesn't make the squad. I previously thought Jernigan was a lock. I still have him far more likely than not, but the fact that there's even a conversation to be had about him is sort of alarming for me.

My WRs haven't changed much over the last 2 weeks.

main concerns going into the season is the lack of speed on offense with ODB and TH on the shelf...not that TH was necessarily going to contribute as a WR but it appeared he might surprise in that area. As of now, I'm almost assuming he is cut and who knows when ODB will be able to make any significant impact.
It's been so long,

get healthy!!
I don't think it really mattered
BillT : 8/27/2014 10:52 am : link
For Holliday to make the roster he needed to show he could contribute in other ways than as a returner. You can't have one of your 5 WR spots in the 45 man spent on a guy that is a returner only. Leaves you too short at WR. Holliday isn't some rookie he's a know commodity as a WR and what was known wasn't good. That and he has ball security issues. If he'd been healthy could the Giants have coached him up to contribute otherwise. I have doubts. I think he was always a long shot.
Just a PSA:

Don't do an image search online for "Preston Parker" with Safe Search off. I warned you.
the problem for Holliday is that he's had nine fumbles
chris r : 8/27/2014 11:05 am : link
on PR these past two years. Coughlin seems to particularly value ball security on PR and Holliday hasn't had the chance in the preseason to prove that he can fix that problem. Also, Demps has basically the same KR average so its no great downgrade from Holliday to Demps on KRs.
personally I like the undrafted player Denver grabbed to replace him

more

Giants could have gotten him for a song, that is Fresno State's all time kick returner and slot receiver Isiah Burse

At 5'5"

and 166 lbs, he's got to be one of the smallest players in the NFL.

Burse is also taller and has played QB in College

would ahve loved Reese to pick him up, was projected to go in rds 6 or 7, but was a UDFA

Played quarterback and safety as a California prep, leading his team to a small school state championship. Appeared in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2010 and caught 13 balls for 190 yards (14.6-yard average) and two touchdowns. Played all 13 games (one start) in '11, snagging 40-436-1 (10.9) while setting a single-season FBS record for kickoff returns and yards with 75-1,606 (21.4). Started 11-of-13 games in '12 and produced 57-851-6 (14.9). Started all 13 games in '13, racking up 100-1,026-6 (10.3). For his career, returned 126 kickoffs for 2,835 yards (22.5) and 29 punts for 344 yards (11.9). Also rushed 32 times for 191 yards (6.3) and completed a 43-yard touchdown pass as a freshman. Team captain.
It's a shame he hasn't been able to show his skills as a kick returner

But if through some God forsaken calamity both Holliday and JJ both end up on our WR squad, then we might as well change the team's name from Giants to the "NY Shrimps."

Parker has been used there. And is a better receiver.
Giants love speed, or the potential
Doomster : 8/27/2014 1:27 pm : link
for speed....one long td and Calhoun made the squad....next thing you know we are signing guys off the street cause he sucked....
Parker over Holliday and it's not even close. Here's why:
NYGmen58 : 8/27/2014 2:07 pm : link
The decision will be made based on who is a better receiver. Parker has proven to be a serviceable NFL receiver who also happens to be a reliable return man on top of it.

There's no doubt Holliday is an explosive returner and an absolute weapon to have but he does not factor into the offense (other than maybe some designated gadget plays drawn up for him).

Parker simply has much more value, especially when you consider Beckham and Washington are both rookies. Giants will do the smart thing and buy the steak not the sizzle here. Need depth and experience at the WR position, even if it means sacrificing Holliday's return ability.
Giants might IR ODB
