to see if the Giants run their starting o-line longer than usual. I'd guess Eli sits after the typical amount of final pre-season game reps, but the o-line could use the extra work, if its against starters or not.
other than drafting Martin AND Richberg (unlikely) what else could the front office had done. I aslo beleive TC is heavily involved in these decisions also. He went out and got one of the best FA Guards on the market. Schwartz getting hurt isn't on Reeese, nor is him playing poorly - wouldn't that be more on coaching? He signed Walton, a talented C that will take some time to come around after missing 2 years - were there better "realistic" options? He signed veterans Jerry and Brown, who both have started multiple games in this league, for depth. Now we here Jerry has looked better than Mosely??? I'm not sure what some people are watching
Finally, everyone KNEW that multiple changes were needed. Does anyone with reasonable football knowledge actully expect the line to perform at a decent level early in the year? It's going to take some time for this group to function.
What more does a guy need to do to earn some looks with the varsity? Are we really that secure in the guy on the roster ahead of him? What exactly has any of them shown this season? Washington should not be playing for a roster spot, he should be playing for reps on Sunday.
...there will surely be more injuries and with zero depth, its a repeat of last year or worse (new offense)...and the last year for TC and Reese in my view.
Had high hopes once Gilbride retired, and Mara making sure we don't repeat last year...but this is looking like a real train wreck on the OL and that usually means a train wreck of a season. Eli (if he isn't David Carr all over again now)..will surely be close. Nassib will most likely get his shot before the season ends.
there would be a lot fewer complaints. If we'd drafted Martin in the 1st and Richburg in the 2nd, but still had Randle, Cruz and Nobody at WR, there would be plenty of complaining about having 2 rookies and a sophomore on the Oline.
The draft is a crapshoot. Reese & Co. did their best to shore up the O-line in FA with the best guys they could afford, and it's just plain falling short. We're two good linemen away from being solid.
Where we made Matt Cassell look like Joe Montana? I think it was.
Anyway...there are still 15 O-Linemen on the roster. You figure five or six won't make the final 53 (I can't see the Giants keeping any less than nine). So, I'll be keeping an eye on Gaines, Asper, Gress...Herman, Reynolds, Johnson-Webb.
I don't know what else Corey Washington has to do to make the team, sell popcorn at half-time?
Let's watch one play with which IMO Eli is uncomfortable (among
other uncomfortable plays): Eli fakes a running play to the left, the OL blocks left and Eli rolls out right PARALLEL to the LOS. He's looking to pass to a WR on the sideline 5 to 10 yds. downfield.
However, if you look at the way Aaron Rodgers runs the same play, Rodgers does not run parallel to the LOS but, for want of a better word, bellies back and seems to have more time and options to pass to.
Finally, a McAdoo rant: I always thought that a Coordinator, whether Offensive or Defensive, reviews the players he has, determines what players can and cannot do and fits his SYSTEM around the players. IMO McAdoo has done exactly the opposite- he's teaching Eli new footwork, new favored pass routes and depth of the routes. So, why are we surprised that Eli is having a hard time- crappy OL, crappy TEs, only one reliable WR in Cruz PLUS a new quick-hitting offense, new pass routes and new depth of pass routes. I know this is McAdoo's first Offensive Coordinator job but IMO he's done things bass ackwards. Maybe TC needs to step in and leave Eli alone and FORCE MCADOO to fit his system to his players, especially Eli's ability and experience. At this point, I trust Eli's abilities over McAdoo's force-fed system.
Whew, glad my rant is over!
Plus: Eli is coming off an ankle injury and subsequent surgery.
Preston Parker? It seems like he played in 2010, 11, 12. He had a decent 2011 when he caught 40 balls as a non-starter. Then he played in only 2 games in 2012 and never played in 2013.
Anyone know if he was injured or what's his story?
Thank for once again pointing out the folly of taking a WR in the 1st Round. This OL will get Eli killed. I think Walton is a guy who should be "watched" too. I haven't been impressed.

From what I understand, Parker had some ball-security issues as a returner, and Schiano decided to cut him in favor of Tiquan Underwood (whom Schiano coached at Rutgers, but who would eventually get cut, too). Parker was signed by the Saints in 2013, and reportedly had a good camp, but still didn't make their final cut.

No offense, Victor, but there is no "folly of taking a WR in the 1st Round" if he's the best player on your board, and especially not if he's tailor-made for the type of offense you want to run. It's unfortunate that Beckham's been hurt, but that shouldn't warrant any second-guessing. No one can predict injuries.
and I would add that the Giants desperately needed a playmaker on offense just as much as an Olineman. If they did take Martin, for example, in the first then they would have had to take a WR in the 2nd because waiting until the third would have been too risky given the need. So, basically what you have is a comparison of Martin and Richburg...I'll concede Martin is probably better but we don't know yet and it isn't like he's sooo much better than Richburg that taking ODB is not justified.
The constant complaining about drafting is getting tired
The issues over the years has not been taking one position over another, it has been having too few players drafter ever becoming core parts of the team. Sometimes of them have been flat out misses, others due to injuries, and some have were quality players but failed to lock in for second contracts. This has crated a situation where the team has too many holes to address. It's the reality of the situation but we need to move on already. The constant whining over a draft months after the fact is maddening.

And in Eli's case, guys who can get open quickly and turn short passes into big gains.
Now, philosophically, JR may have turned the corner with regard to the draft, seeing as how in the last two drafts he used a one and a two on O-Linemen.
However, let's not forget that the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2007 with an O-Line that consisted of a 2nd Round pick, a 3rd Round pick, a 5th Round pick, and two UDFAs. In 2008, that same line blocked for two thousand-yard rushers.
In 2011, after parting ways with O'Hara and Seubert, the Giants made do with Baas (3rd Round) and Boothe (6th round), both acquired via free agency, and when Beatty (2nd Round) went down after 10 games, Diehl took his place. The run game was abysmal, but they still gave Eli enough time to get the ball out to his playmakers, and in that case, he had three outstanding WRs, not to mention a TE who more than rose to the occasion when big plays were called for.
they are going through. Winners focus on where they are going to. What the Giants are going through is simply transportation to get them to their destination.
I know, sounds nuts, but I just don't think Eli can handle the pressures of an undefeated season. There's nothing to suggest he has the mental fortitude to be able to handle it. And it'd be awful if the Eagles were to ruin it during the regular season.
Eric, in your "Final Word", I think you have a missing word (maybe "rests"):
Finally, everyone KNEW that multiple changes were needed. Does anyone with reasonable football knowledge actully expect the line to perform at a decent level early in the year? It's going to take some time for this group to function.
Charles Brown...bad signing.
John Jerry...looks like bad signing...I don't agree with Connor about his play.
Schwartz...so far I've seen a mediocre lineman with a 4-year, $17 million contract.
Walton...better than what we had, but he has problems with power.
Richburg...best of the bunch, but not enough.
This line isn't good and it has ZERO depth. One more injury and yikes.

Wonder if his ankle is bothering him.
