Plus, it's not like he's some unique gift that is going to go 90+% and make them regularly from 60. Or that we may not be able to find a comparable kicker.
Your idea made 0 sense. And, of course, the NFL actually investigates these things, so it wouldn't pass even the simplest smell test.
A couple of years ago, people wanted Tynes gone (who was as reliable as Brown, and better at the specialty kicks kicker keeps trying to educate people about). Now they want Brown gone (who's not terrible -- not great, but not terrible) in favor of a young kid who needs work (Hi, Matt Dodge!). Oh, and let's not forget how apeshit this place went when we dared trade a 7th round pick for a former Pro-Bowl LB.
Instead of just waiving him and having a team like the Eagles get him, they manage to get a potential return for him from Denver. Granted, it may not result in an actual draft pick, but it might, and hey, at least the Eagles don't get him for a quarter of the season.
I know it's not everyone reacting this way, but FFS, if the biggest problem the Giants had was 7th round picks and kickers, they wouldn't have been picking 12th overall in this past draft.

Somebody steal your fruit loops this morning?
My whole point is I'd rather own his rights than not.
Don't take life so seriously.

Let the guy be active, get some real game experience and make his bread.he clearly wasn't injured and I'm sure had that happened a greivance would have been filed by the NFLPA as they sometimes do when teams try and pull that crap.

Giants think highly of him to keep him awa from eagles but not enough for him to make team. Interesting.
Is it really that interesting that the Giants think Brown is better than McManus who in turn is better than who the Eagles have or might pick up off the street?
And let's not overthink this, I can't imagine the Giants view this as some grand strategic move. But they're releasing a guy, and a division rival might be interested - kind of a no-brainer to make sure he goes somewhere else, even if it's only temporary.
... in the event Denver trades McManus when Prater returns, as opposed to cutting him. But maybe I'm giving the front office too much credit.
If he does get cut in Week 5, the Giants will probably have the chance to reclaim him if they are unhappy with Brown, or decide that it's time to look toward the future. Isn't claim order still based on 2013 records in Week 5? That puts New York way ahead of Philly.
Denver would have to cut him. That's how it helps, lol
No it's not full proof, but it was a sound tactical maneuver.
You need him to work on his technique, not sit on his ass.
Home for Jaguars
At Colts
Home for Redskins
At 49ers
Why arent the Giants going with McManus themselves?

I think I'd rather have him sit on his ass with us for a year rather than, in all likelihood, never seeing him again.

He's not as consistent from 45 and in, and his ability to hit different KO's is worse than Brown.
His technique also needs more work. Which means he will miss a couple easy ones.

Yes, so he doesn't improve on his technique, which is why he was cut...
Sound strategy......

You understand that him playing for anyone other than the Giants doesn't exactly benefit us?
He gets NFL tutelage.

Its not like he got beat out by a hof/pro bowl kicker.

A kicker isn't gonna make or break this team.
I want the full poof so help me God.
No shit. Then Week 6 he hits a 108 yd FG to win the game.
He gets NFL tutelage.

That takes about 5 seconds.

Yup, definitely fruit loops withdrawal.

agree with arc. Giants will regret this.
