NFT: Yanks talk 8-28

superspynyg : 8/28/2014 8:08 am
That was a great game for both our lineup and Greene. With 9 hits and 8 runs in one inning (14 in the game). We knocked the crap out of Price. Greene pitched great. I am not ready to call him a legit starter for next season but he has made me look twice. Ellsbury in the lead off role is a must for this season and next.

So going forward Pineda has been great off the dl, McCarthy and Greene are pitching very well. Our line up is starting to get hits. 2.5 games out of the last wild card. So things are looking up!

Ellsbury is having a fantastic season
kmed : 8/28/2014 8:43 am : link
and he's going under the radar a bit.

.284 BA
.347 OBP
13 HR's
61 RBI
63 Runs
37 SB's in 42 Attempts

Throw in that he plays a really good CF and this guy does a bit of everything. Decent average, gets on base at a good clip, has some pop, great baserunner and great fielder.
Going into next season...

we will need to address shortstop somehow, but the wider issue we're going to have is that we're not getting mid-lineup production out of 1B with Teixeira (.230/.330/.429) or DH with Beltran still nursing that shoulder injury. Whether it is players hitting closer to career norms or one or two additions to the lineup the run-scoring issue isn't going to solve itself.
Keep throwing money and prospects at the problem
kmed : 8/28/2014 8:54 am : link
and trade for Tulo? Might solve both issues.

"fantastic season" is a bit of a stretch.

Although he has shown some life lately.

80 games of Tulo might have led this team in RBIs.
There aren't many better center fielders than ellsbury
djm : 8/28/2014 9:02 am : link
He's having a fantastic season overall when you compare him to other center fielders. Whatever word you want to use -- he's a damn good player out there.
I think it's a fantastic season.
kmed : 8/28/2014 9:09 am : link
Nothing eye popping about his numbers except when you look a little deeper and realize that he does everything on a baseball field well. There really is no weakness to his game. He's having a fantastic season.
The lack of power output from the outfield is an issue...
Dunedin81 : 8/28/2014 9:10 am : link
but if we had Carlos Beltran hitting 25-30 HRs and we were getting somewhere in that ballpark from the DH spot things would look a lot different.
Just wondering if they give

Lindgren a look on the big club like all the fanboys hope.
Tanaka is throwing 45 pitches today...
Dunedin81 : 8/28/2014 10:15 am : link
I get the impetus for rehab but if this ends up costing him two seasons instead of one the press is going to go apeshit, and probably rightfully so.

If they do, it will probably be soon so he's post season eligible if he comes up and is a bullpen asset. I say if they don't think he's ready to do something like that, they should leave him be and let him finish the year in the minors and he can try and make the club in ST.

I would hope they wouldn't risk next season for some hope of a post season run.
Well if he gets TJS he's out for next season...
Dunedin81 : 8/28/2014 10:22 am : link
but it's possible that if he discovers in the offseason that he needs it - as opposed to getting it near in time to the injury - he could miss part of 2016 as well.

Tanaka throwing all of his pitches now with good control in impressive showing for #Yankees

When they put off surgery for rehab, I groaned
BeerFridge : 8/28/2014 10:51 am : link
because I just have the feeling that rarely works. But, Tanaka's rehab with platelets seems to be going well. It definitely will suck if he pitches two starts and tears it and they start the surgery/recovery clock a lot later than it could have been.
Ron Washington basically saying...
Dunedin81 : 8/28/2014 10:52 am : link
that Darvish sitting out with inflammation in his pitching arm is tantamount to "quitting." Dumbass.

His on-base skills are mediocre and he's got a weak arm. He plays a pretty good centerfield but people talk about him like he's prime Mike Cameron or something. He remains massively overpaid.
another alternative at short is elvis andrus.
sinctybldh : 8/28/2014 11:28 am : link
big contract, down season probably means he wouldn't cost a lot in terms of what the yankees would have to give up to get him. i am sure they would make texas pay for part of his contract too.
His arm is slightly below average,
kmed : 8/28/2014 11:30 am : link
but he's still a great CF. His OBP is solid sitting around .350, but when you look at all of his numbers, he does everything well and nothing poorly which is very valuable.

Didn't Washington pitch Darvish after an hour rain delay or somethign like that? How does that guy still have a job?
Elvis Andrus? No thanks
Greg from LI : 8/28/2014 11:35 am : link
I'd rather roll the dice that Drew can rebound next year than lock into Andrus for multiple years.
