I am sure some recall 10 days or so ago, Iceland was in the news as there was volcanic activity to report. The news flashed back to when air traffic was shit down for 10 days. The story fell out of favor with the news, as nothing truly exciting has been happening. That would be wrong.
I will admit to having a vest interest in what is going on there. I am getting married on the 19th of September; followed by a honeymoon to Iceland the next day.
I have been keep daily tabs on events transpiring and while it does not look positive it is interesting to learn more about volcanic activities.
I can appreciate the recent 5.1 earth quake in Napa, Ca. In a period of two days Bardarbunga volcano produced three earth quake greater then 5.1. A magma conduit is melting rock as it heads from one volcano, Bardarbunga, toward Askja. What happens when magma from one volcano reach another?
Go back a 120 years ago and when Askja erupted northern eastern Iceland was virtually abandon. A good percent of the population picked up and moved to Canada.
All the above information was garnered form a blog I have been following. Thought I would post a link of two for those how might be interested in learning more about what is going on. Actually rather interesting stuff. As much as we can monitor events, no one really knows what just might happen.
Best hopes is a tourist type eruption.
Time will tell.
August 26 update - (

I do have to admit, the author of this blog does a good job in reporting data, concepts and ideas of what might transpire.
This update was rather rushed and not fully proofed.
August 27 & 28 updates - ( New Window )
Enough for ease the amount of magma that is below? It is the 400-600 meter thick glacier above Bardabunga that deceives. There have been multiple areas in the glacier where settling has been noted, due to ice melting.
The situation still bares watching.
