RGIII's mechanics have regressed, says Jaworski

ZogZerg : 8/28/2014 1:11 pm
I am real interested to see how RG 3 does in his new offense. Jaworski seems to think he has issues.

Quote:

"They have regressed in the fundamental way of throwing the football," Jaworski said, via The Washington Post. "His throwing slot, his footwork, his inability to remain consistent in that."

If he struggles, I wonder if they change the offense to allow him to run more?
RGIII's mechanics have regressed, says Jaworski - ( New Window )
While I agree that RGMe has looked terrible,
kmed : 8/28/2014 1:17 pm : link
I really can't stand Jaworski. It almost seems like he's still on the Eagles payroll.

I've heard him on the radio a few times the last few days. Not only is everything terrible in NY and Washington, but everythign is awesome in philly. He even said the rams would be dumb not to offer a high draft pick(1 or 2) for mark freaking sanchez because he has looked like the best qb in the preseason. In fact, the fact that he's only signed for 1 year and 5 million makes him even more valuable and....I don't know if the eagles would even consider it, but the rams would be dumb not to do it. I can't stand this guy.
I'll wait and see

Washington knows that they can't utilize RGMe like
kmed : 8/28/2014 1:19 pm : link
they have in the past. He'll be out of the NFL within 2 years. They are trying to turn him into a traditional pocket passer who runs once in a while when he has to, but he's never shown that ability in the NFL.

I wonder if that

knee still flares up a bit.

He can still hurt you though.
Washington
Metnut : 8/28/2014 1:22 pm : link
should just unleash RG3 and let the cards fall where they do. Having him play away from his strengths is silly. If he gets hurt, it looks like they have a nice backup.
Multiple reconstructions to the same knee=
kmed : 8/28/2014 1:24 pm : link
RGME can't play like he used to, whether they want him to or not. He will never be the same guy, his knee has now been compromised multiple times.
One more young QB

that relied heavily on his legs for his success who regresses once subjected to the pounding on the NFL, what a surprise.

What mechanics?
Victor in CT : 8/28/2014 1:30 pm : link
He had terrible mechanics to start with. He was a runner who threw, not a QB who could run. Worked fine until he started to get hit. Mobility is great, but this is still a league where the QB has to be able to throw from the pocket.
17-16... arrgghhhhh
GMAN4LIFE : 8/28/2014 1:31 pm : link
god i hated him in that game...
I haven't watched a lot of Bob so far this preseason,
Exit 172 : 8/28/2014 1:33 pm : link
but I do think I have seen enough of him from two of their preseason games to conclude with reasonable confidence that he has looked only a tad bit better than hot garbage.

What a mess the Washington team has on their hands. If they stick with him and he blows, it ain't good. And if they switch to Cousins, what a disastrous tradeup for Bob that was.

The only way out for them is for Bob to suddenly, radically start playing like an elite quarterback. Not a good quarterback, an elite one. You don't make a trade like they did for a merely good quarterback.
It's a catch-22
AnishPatel : 8/28/2014 1:34 pm : link
if they do that to allow him to succeed, then the risk of injury goes up, especially since he sucks at sliding. He is no good if he is hurt. He will have to learn to run when he needs to but stay in the pocket and move around to make plays. Keep taking it up field and it's open season to hit him.
Don't you know
blueblood'11 : 8/28/2014 1:34 pm : link
Jawaorski is always off the charts where the Eagles are concerned. To be perfectly honest if McCoy goes down they aren't going anywhere. Even if he stays healthy I don't think the Eagels are that great anyway.

you mean you weren't impressed when he designed that play where he fumbled and had bounce right into his hands and ran it in for a TD? Gruden was!! He acted as if RG3 drew up that play in the dirt exactly as it happened.

It really was so annoying to hear him say
kmed : 8/28/2014 1:37 pm : link
that the Rams would be dumb not to trade a top pick for Mark freakin Sanchez. Then he goes on to show how Sanchez was ripping teams and showed like 2 clips to prove it. Yet everything is doom and gloom in ny and washington all the time with this guy. Giants apparently are in major trouble because of how bad eli looks. Did he mention nassib and his trade value or how he's looked? Nope, just that eli looks terrible and scared.

Not only does he suck at sliding, but he's bad at anticipating and adjusting to contact. It seems like most of the hits he takes are serious blows that could be avoided or lessened.
what amazes me about RG3
JOMO25 : 8/28/2014 1:46 pm : link
is how many violent hits he takes...for a good athlete, his awareness and elusiveness in close quarters is awful

Yup. Seems like every few years a running qb enters the league to heralded praise of revolution to the game and can't miss success. And then I always think of the SI cover headline about Randell Cunningham, "The Ultimate Weapon". In 40 years of watching the NFL I have yet to see one of running phenom qbs win a Super Bowl. Steve Young could run like the wind until he couldn't and then he won as a pocket passer. Elway was a great runner and escape artist but he didn't win his SBs until he had very diminished legs and TD in the backfield. And please don't give me Russell Wilson because the Hawks carried him through the second half of the season and he contributed about as much as Trent Dilfer.

Why does the media insist these running qbs are new or even viable?

"RGMe" ? wow, what a great and totally clever nickname you've got going for him there... up there with Deadskins, Cowgirls, Shegals, etc.

Looks better. I hope they play RG3
I think you need to seperate
JOMO25 : 8/28/2014 2:09 pm : link
"running" QBs from athletic QBs. There are very few bad athletes at the QB spot these days. You have Peyton/Brady but those guys are off the charts with their command and accuracy. Other guys aren't runners per se, but are athletic enough to outrun DLmen to extend a play. Take for example Drew Brees who is by no means a runner. But people don't realize how smooth of an athlete he is.
Jaws has lost a lot on his fastball..
Big Blue '56 : 8/28/2014 2:10 pm : link
Seems to happen to all of the good ones
mixed on it
UConn4523 : 8/28/2014 2:10 pm : link
because Jaws typically says boneheaded things and often times contradicts himself, but from what I have seen of RG3 this year, he's very sloppy. Doesn't look comfortable at all in the pocket and throws off his back foot a lot.
Wait and see,

but I certainly hope so. That'd be awesome.

had bad mechanics last year a lot compared to year 1. But so much of the attention of late has been based on about 1 half of football in the preseason in a completely new offense with a first time coach and coordinator.

I know people don't like him - but that thing is going to need some time to really know one way or another.

This.

Also, can't stand Jaws myself. Used to like him but like was said earlier, he's just not as good as he used to be.

agree with Victor - he's never had good mechanics.
reminds me of CK
kepler20 : 8/28/2014 4:33 pm : link
Has trouble making all the throws and specifically making those 25-30yd touch passes. Everythjng has to be thrown like a lazer.
His eyes are consistently dropping to see the pass rush, like Eli
JonC : 8/28/2014 4:38 pm : link
They've got to protect him better. But, his overall mechanics are mentality tend to not be patient pocket passer.
His accuracy his rookie season was never questioned.
Shockeyisthebest80 : 8/28/2014 4:41 pm : link
His current problems are all related to the knee injury. I said numerous times last season that his mechanics looked awful. I don't know if the knee still hurts or he doesn't trust it, but no one can throw accurately if they try to lessen the pressure on the plant leg.
