Questions for this season and what may happen...

M.S. : 8/29/2014 6:12 am
1) How long does it take for the offense to gel around new playbook of Ben McAdoo's?

2) In a related matter, how long will it take offensive line to gel with at least 3 new starters... especially in protecting Eli?

3) Will we see more of the "good" Eli or the "bad" Eli?;

4) Will a TE step up and at least block well and maybe catch a pass or two, or is this position on the Giants the worst in the NFL?

5) Can our defensive ends generate some semblance of a pass rush while also setting the edge against the run?

6) Can this defense handle any misdirection / deception plays, from screens to end-arounds?

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most optimistic and 1 the least... here is my guess on what may transpire in 2014.

1) "5" Maybe Bob McAddo's offense relies HEAVILY on the run game, which based on preseason play looks pretty good, if not spectacular. Offense slowly gets into gear and by second half of season starts to get feel for his new system;

2) "4" I have high hopes for this unit's run-blocking and hopefully that will help them in slowing down the pass rush. But if they build no foundation with the run, oh boy... Eli's health is in danger;

3) "6" Despite no sign whatsoever in preseason (save for a 2-minute drill in Jets game), I think Eli has a bounce back year and raises the level of play for entire offense. That assumption rests squarely, however, on Eli's belief that he will find a pocket somewhere along the interior line;

4) "3" The future of TE for the New York Giants is a player that is not on the current roster;

5) "4" I think the Giants will miss Justin Tuck a lot more than any of us anticipated. (And, if our offense staggers and our defense doesn't get a blow, this is a "3". I am also guessing that the restoration of JPP to his former greatness is a fantasy we all indulge in here on BBI;

6) "4" Don't know why we should expect any improvement from a team that for years has been vulnerable to change of pace plays. We can't defend them.

So, just to carry this to the end of statistical absurdity, I count 26 points out of a possible 60, or ~43% "winning percentage" which comes to ~7 wins.

So, 7-9 is a guess.

Based on what

they've shown this preseason, IMHO, they're fucked.
I won't go into my secret formula for GIANTS success...

... but I will say that, according to my calculations, there is a 1076% chance that the Giants go undefeated and win the Super Bowl.

I'm feeling cautiously optimistic, I'd say. :)

Hopefully not the Sheridan of offensive coordinators.
the defense will be okay

but unless they can complete a few passes, defenses will keep seven, eight guys in the box stop the run and tee off on Eli.

They will be 8-8 (at best) but I believe it will be because most of their wins will come later in the season, just in time to give them a middling pick. This season will be a repeat of the era of futility through the mid-late 90's where the defense was okay but the offense stunk the place up.
They just don't really have the depth of talent in the critical positions. I also think they will be bitten by the penalty bug a little more than other teams because of the aggressive nature of their secondary.
I'll wait for the first 2 real games that mean something

where all the starters play the whole game and they get to run 60 plays a game so after around 120 real plays Ill probably have a sense of what to expect on a week in and week out basis because what happened the last 5 weeks means nada
and is forgotten as I get ready to watch game planned football games where the intensity level is ratched up and the game they play for real looks very little like the exhibition games
5 or 6 wins

is going to be the mark. defense is o.k. but the offense is absolutely going to get their ass kicked this year. It will be an interesting offseason for sure. hope im wrong....
