I know it's only preseason but in keeping the tradition of coordinator bashing ala Gilbride/Kildrive, I give you McAdoo/McAwhoo.
I Can't imagine the offense getting worse and maybe playing in real games that mean something will bring out the best in them.
I also understand it's a new system but wouldn't one think that at some point during the preseason we would start to see a hint of progress. Something. Anything.
The defense looks solid and should keep them in games. But if this what we are to expect from the offense that defense can only hold the dam from breaking so long.
Under Gilbride moving the ball wasn't the problem. It was the plays he called that got him the moniker of Kildrive.
So far under McAdoo if this keeps up we can call him No drive.
As TC often says, "here we go!"
I think the thing that Coughlin will do is stick more with the running game until the passing game hopefully improves and let the defense do it's thing to keep the games close.
I really believe the defense will be very formidable and in keepin games close you always have a chance. The defense without a doubt is the stronger of the two units and I think a lot of their success will be determined by how well they play.
Right now this offense is scaring no one. The Lions are probably licking their chops as we speak.
2) we have only 1 WR who is at least an average NFL-quality receiver, and
3) we don't have a TE who is at least an average NFL TE
how will a scheme make a difference?
I think our line will stabilize and be better than last year's, which means I'd be happy with 8 wins.
The Eagles started 1-3 last year, and were 3-5 at midseason.
Jesus Christ. No of course he's not proven yet.
Thus far we have played 5 preseason games and our offense was not even fully run or installed. You do realize preseason games are more or less vanilla schemes and packages, right?
Did Spagnuolo look like a proven DC his first few games here?
But you'd think this first team offense could execute, what they run, a hell of a lot better...
I'm worried that he can't design plays that puts fear in the hearts of opposing team's DCs ...
We'll see once the season starts but as of now ... vanilla looks exciting ...
in other words, the Lions have no freaking clue what our gameplan will look like, week 1, except a solid dose of Jennings.
I guess we will never truly know if it was his and his idea alone or if he was either pressured to or outright asked to retire. But the way he was called out and embarrassed by Mara at the end of last season I can't help believe that he either was asked to or simply didn't appreciate being publicly embarrassed and that motivated him to say to himself "I am out of here, my wife wants ne to retire anyway and I don't need this at this point in my career (and life)".
I guess my point is there are probably many wives of coaches that would prefer that they retire but I doubt many do solely for that reason when they finally decide to.
I think the offense has shown slow but steady improvement throughout the preseason and I think that those that are already calling for Eli, McAdoo and Coughlin's heads... as well as already coming up with names for them... are going to be eating some good ass crow by October.
- The Packers' running game is a true zone blocking scheme. When they run the ball, the line fires off in unison to one side or the other. I read an article in which McCarthy said they do other stuff, but zone blocking is the basic framework. Even with the Giants' success running the ball this preseason, it doesn't look anything like the Packers' offense.
- The very short pass is a major staple of the offense. It's basically a run in the form of an efficient pass that might possibly get YAC. The Chargers' offense is also similar. One thing I've noticed is if the opponents don't fear the Giants WRs' ability to beat them deep, those short passes won't be open unless they use rubs/picks.
The main issue I come out of this with is if the Giants can't make teams respect them deep AND struggle to get off bump and ru
Long story short... the Giants need ODB to be good and Randle to be a guy who can make contested catches.
honestly where is the west coast style we were hoping for?
still long outs, back shoulder throws, no rb swing passes, screens, shallow crosses, quick slants, rubs/picks anything...
we threw like 4 screens in that first preseason game then nothing...
I am very concerned, not that McAdoo isn't a good coordinator, but that this offense has assimilated too much of the Gilbride/(more so)Coughlin schemes.
P.S. I am no expert, but just from a bird eye view of my thoughts.
