Our defense

No pressure from JPP & Kiwi....how do you win that way?
The secondary gave up big plays, Thurmond was exposed a lot in these games. LB's still not swift in coverage. Maybe when Beason returns they will solidify, but I was not impressed with the first string D this pre-season.

They need to be more dominant to make up for the short comings of our suddenly suck ass offense.
patience..very vanilla during preseason..nothing

Thurmond in the slot

Prince on the outside, Beason in the middle, I'll take my chances
I don't think JPP is "saving" anything. I think he is a one

dimensional player, great athlete but no technique and poor instincts. That is why I think he is more suited for LDE where he can clog up the run and play against less adept pass blockers. No matter how good the 2ndary is, it will be difficult for them without the DL getting decent pressure on the good QBs. I would flip flop Kiwi and JPP, and also start working Moore into Kiwi's spot on a gradual basis.

Considering how long JPP has been playing football I'm his life, he has gotten by because of his natural instincts and ability. Clearly when he is not at full health, he does not operate the same.

There have been a few encouraging QB pressures by him and Kiwi this preseason.I'm not worried about JPP not going off in meaningless games

certainly has to carry this team, based on what the offense has shown thus far.....

But......

Is Prince fully healed?

Does anyone think that Beason can walk onto the field and be the force he was last year, without any practice or playing in any games and not having any contact? Will he even be in football shape?

As for our linebackers, Kennard and JW may have some speed, but at the point of attack, both are manhandled.....after watching McClain play in 5 games, he brings nothing to the table....Kennard has not really been tested in coverage....

Our defensive line is a bunch of bull rushers, and show no athleticism......In passing situations we have to see more of Moore than Kiwi.....I do not think this line is better than last year....

When they signed DRC, I thought they overpaid, because I didn't think he was as good as the contract given.....but he has played well in preseason...have to hope Prince is OK.....our safeties are not a concern, unless there is an injury, and then we are in trouble....

Been a long time since we have entered a season with so many questions on both sides of the ball...
The fork in Kiwi's back needs to be adddressed....

Our Defense's biggest problem
nicky43 : 8/29/2014 9:06 am : link
will be our Offense going 3 and out much too often to allow our D to rest. By halftime they will be totally spent!

It certainly is dissapointing that JPP

Has not developed any pass rush moves beyond the bull rush. I agree with those that suggest he move to the left side. He's looking a little bit more the Adrien Robinson of DE's so far.
By the end of the year

I think the majority of fans will be talking about how bad our defense is and forgetting about the defense.

Right on. I agree 100%. I'm wondering why the coaches don't consider that?! Fewell needs to be asked that question. Moore definitely needs more reps with the 1's in passing situations; that's a given.
outside of no flashy big plays from JPP,
djm : 8/29/2014 10:47 am : link
which shouldn't really be a huge concern, I thought the D showed enough to feel pretty confident heading into week 1.

No major injuries and the DBs look terrific.

I think people are trying to find the negatives...I mean I get it with offense but now people are worried about the D? The D was good last year and could be even better this year.
Kiwi had a sack last night
djm : 8/29/2014 10:48 am : link
but he's done?

Whatever works.
