TE Adrien Robinson - Does he stay or go?

gidiefor : Mod : 8/29/2014 8:10 am
On the one hand Robinson has shown some real flashes this pre-season - with highlight reel catches up the seam proving he has real athletic ability and also making key blocks in the running game - especially last night against the Pats. On the other hand sometimes he looks lost out there, whiffing plays and missing his blocking assignments.

Is he improving - or is he a lost cause? What say you?

Fells
Toth029 : 8/29/2014 8:28 am : link
Is the most complete TE. And even he's average at best.

Reese screwed this team up by basic decisions like that. He's lucky Gettleman threw him a bone last year with Beason.
Worst group of TEs on any NFL roster
Bold Ruler : Mod : 8/29/2014 8:34 am : link
Whether he goes or stays is irrelevant. His performance is right in line with the others, totally forgettable.
Reese will never cut him
Steve in South Jersey : 8/29/2014 8:36 am : link
he's the JPP to TE!!! Reese would lose face if he cut Adrien Robinson.
He will be stripped of his roster position

He's staying
islander1 : 8/29/2014 8:40 am : link
because Reese is so much smarter than everyone else.
He'll show us!
If you watch the Pats game, here is what logic tells you:
Marty in Albany : 8/29/2014 8:43 am : link
He did not start, so he is behind the starter.
He did not play in the first half, so he is behind the backup TE.
He did not play well in the game, so it is unlikely that he moved up to pass either of those guys.
He is not a demon on special teams.
So at best, he's third string on a team that should only keep two TEs.
I don't know how the Giants would justify keeping him.
He is terrible and he probably stays

They both came in with the reputation for being athletic developmental projects. That's where the similarities end. Shiancoe stayed healthy and developed into a solid 2-way te with the giants. Then signed with the vikes for a decent sized contact.

Problem when it comes to waivers is Oakland is desperate for a TE and would have first claim, not to mention several other teams

I think...
Bryan : 8/29/2014 9:02 am : link
...he has to go - he looks awkward, still - concentration is a question mark - injuries are an issue - I have to believe the Giants are going to be pouring over the waiver wire tomorrow for a TE - Donnell looked the best of the bunch last night (Davis needed to 'leak out' two yards,in the first quarter, for a first down,he didn't run the route beyond the first down needed (two yards) and then made a half baked attempt (didn't try to lower his shoulder to create leverage on the defender to gain the first down a yard away - JUST AWFUL).
If we don't bring in another tight end from the waiver wires
Essex : 8/29/2014 9:04 am : link
I am going to throw my hands up. Usually, the waiver wire is not the solution, but we don't have an NFL caliber starting Tight End on this roster. Robinson is a bust.
I'm still bummed we couldn't find money for Marty B
BeerFridge : 8/29/2014 9:06 am : link
.
Donnell. Robinson and Fells
aquidneck : 8/29/2014 9:13 am : link
and another guy for the PS is what we'll go with.

That's enough young guys with "upside." Don't see us picking up a similar developmental player for the 53, but if by some miracle a vet who could be counted on to block well and run decent routes shakes loose maybe we sacrifice a guy like Robinson.

Then again, we've already got Fells and Davis so not sure there's any improvement there available either.
I'm in the minority

you can't keep 2 TEs. even if you only keep 2 of who we have now. Offense can't function with substitutions and injuries with 2 TE. they need three.
We are talking about replacement level talent
WideRight : 8/29/2014 9:29 am : link
I understand the appeal of athleticism, and that may be what lets him stay. But even if he goes, any future need for someone of Robinson's ability can be obtained at no cost. That used to be one of Reese's strengths.
STAYS.

Kellen Davis has experience, but was horrendous in the preseason in all aspects.

Robinson is probably a bust and Reese was wrong on this kid
Geeman : 8/29/2014 9:59 am : link
but it's too early to throw in the towel due to his athletic ability. Ya gotta give him one more season to see if he develops into at least a serviceable TE.

Robinson should stay.

Steelers may cut him. Te from Oregon few years ago solid receiving te

Giants will undoubtedly bring in a te that gets cut

I see donnell and Robinson sticking

And giants pickup a te that gets cut
At least 3 on that list
PeterS : 8/29/2014 10:28 am : link
were once on our roster. Maybe more.

I tried focusing on the TEs last night and they played decently. Some good blocks and catches but one thing stood out: they don't play with a sense of confidence.
Why does he always wear long sleeves?

Robinson is in long sleeves. I don't get it!

Might have fat, flabby arms.

Anyway, the fact that he's a consideration to stay highlights just how bad our TE situation is.
giants te problems over the years may reflect more on TC's concept of
plato : 8/29/2014 10:55 am : link
TE and how to use them than it does to the talent of the TE's who have been here. Perhaps TC prefers a Howard Cross to a Bavaro. Just guessing but its been a long run of poorly handling one position including shockey
but to answer the question, robinson stays. last week he demonstrated

Stay

Unless they pick up another TE.
It doesn't matter.
Red Dog : 8/29/2014 1:49 pm : link
He's yet another failed mid-round draft choice, but there's not going to be anybody better available to replace him.

So it doesn't matter if he stays or goes. Just doesn't matter.

Regardless of what they do short of a major trade for a proven player, which won't happen for a lot of reasons, they will have nothing at the TE position again this season.

All that does matter is that they don't keep 4 TEs because none of them are worth a damn. They need to pick 3, any 3, and go with them.

And I still think Bear Pascoe, who they let walk, was better than any of these guys they have now.
I think he stays but in a very tenuous manner
Some Fan : 8/29/2014 2:08 pm : link
ie, one of the first cuts if we sign someone else at any position. My gut also tells me that in crunch time Robinson would come up small.
If I was TC
Bleedin Blue : 8/29/2014 2:10 pm : link
I'd look Reese square in the eye and say "are we done with your F%&KING project???" and "oh and you better get me a TE in the next draft!"
1 more year for the JPP of Ice Bucket Lifters
ghost718 : 8/29/2014 2:28 pm : link
Think it will be more about politics than potential.
So you want to cut him? - In-house options?
Bob in Newburgh : 8/29/2014 2:55 pm : link
Donnell - Same developmental type of player. Appears more fluid in movement, but does not block well.

Davis - Next to worthless and nothing to develop. To me cutting Davis and keeping Robinson is a no-brainer.
