Eli deserves some of the criticism he's getting....he's played poorly...and its been 2+ years. I think the media is starting to turn on him and be more reactive than in the past. The fans and media are starting to grow impatient.
Perfect example...last night when the "miscommunication" throw to Randle happened. NYP's Paul Schwartz immediately tweeted something like "horrible misfired throw". Turns out it wasn't Eli's full fault, but yet another "miscommunication."
And then Connor's comments this a.m....pretty scathing.
Clearly Eli isn't getting a pass anymore....and I'm ok with it. If he's doesn't turn it around in the 1st 2-3 games....how long before fans/media start calling for Nassib?
Thoughts?
It's a new offense, he deserves the year unless it's just so bad that it's not even functional.
If he has a repeat of last year, then we probably have to seriously consider giving Nassib a shot or look into other options next offseason. But for now, it's got to be Eli's job for the entire season. He's earned that much. Regardless of what impatient fans believe.
Still others can't see past their own noses as to what is really happening on the field.
Absolutely how it is but yet the media goes out of their way to glorify Romo regardless of how pathetic his performances are.
Incidentally, I wonder how long it will be before Cowboy fans start calling Romo Nomo? That said, Romo will likely look good this year but only because he is playing behind a very good O-line.
I honestly feel that the people that will be calling for Nassib (and you know there will be with the first bad throw) need a cup of acid thrown in their face...but that's just me.
Yup
I think much boils down to the fact that he proved the so-called "experts" wrong twice, and they can't stand that
It doesn't make sense, but you are talking about a group of people who will extol the greatness of guys like Josh Freeman, Mark Sanchez or Kevin Kolb. What are those guys doing?
I just don't understand what some people see.

Was 2012 a year of "terrible" play from Eli? Especially in light of the line coming apart at the seams?

Very similar to Brady last season. Granted their offseason last year was brutal, but shit happens I guess. I'd love Eli to have had Brady's O-line last year, even with their depleted offensive weapons.
The guy has been bad for one season...2013...and this was with the worst OL in the NFL and no running game..
Yet people like you say "but Eli has to play better"...no QB in the league would have succeeded last year with this supporting cast..
And my guess if we could see an archive of your posting history we would see you wanting to to get rid of him after 2006...silent after 2007 then repeat in 2010 and now after a year where no one could succeed you are on him again..
A fast start, and all is forgotten....

As if the Giants weapons in 2013 and now are even remotely good.
There are plenty of warning signs but putting too much stock in pre-season can be dangerous.
He does need to do better. But can you tell me what QB would have done well last year with our O-line and a WR who gave up?
Very little analysis or originality from any of the beat writers, especially when they quote PFF statistics all the time. Statistics are fine (even though Mark Twain said, "There are lies, then damned lies and then statistics") but how about telling us what caused a positive or negative PFF statistic.
Eli is the QB. Will be the QB. Is the best QB the team has ever had. And there ain't a damn thing that any dopey fan or media member can do about it.
The fans can dominate the airwaves with their insane opinions and the media can force feed storylines down everyone's throat and in the end the organization knows enough to laugh it off, shrug it off, and worry about winning titles with this QB. There probably isn't anyone who knows better than the Giants coach and front office, how absurd it all sounds. They can think he can play better, they can think he had a bad throw or a bad game or even a lackluster season but there isn't one moment of thought that Eli Manning shouldn't be the quarterback. And this fan is thankful for that. Kick and scream all you want, but too bad to all the suckers who don't seem to get it.

It's not just you.
