Eli deserves some of the criticism he's getting....he's played poorly...and its been 2+ years. I think the media is starting to turn on him and be more reactive than in the past. The fans and media are starting to grow impatient.
Perfect example...last night when the "miscommunication" throw to Randle happened. NYP's Paul Schwartz immediately tweeted something like "horrible misfired throw". Turns out it wasn't Eli's full fault, but yet another "miscommunication."
And then Connor's comments this a.m....pretty scathing.
Clearly Eli isn't getting a pass anymore....and I'm ok with it. If he's doesn't turn it around in the 1st 2-3 games....how long before fans/media start calling for Nassib?
Thoughts?
Eli is the QB. Will be the QB. Is the best QB the team has ever had. And there ain't a damn thing that any dopey fan or media member can do about it.
The fans can dominate the airwaves with their insane opinions and the media can force feed storylines down everyone's throat and in the end the organization knows enough to laugh it off, shrug it off, and worry about winning titles with this QB. There probably isn't anyone who knows better than the Giants coach and front office, how absurd it all sounds. They can think he can play better, they can think he had a bad throw or a bad game or even a lackluster season but there isn't one moment of thought that Eli Manning shouldn't be the quarterback. And this fan is thankful for that. Kick and scream all you want, but too bad to all the suckers who don't seem to get it.
Golf clap.
I think highly of Wilson in general, but on that night, you could honestly have replaced Wilson's superior passer rating performance with direct snapping to a RB and the Seahawks still win that game probably pretty easily.
I'm not even someone who whines about how unfair or mean the media is to the Giants/Eli, but I wonder what you've been sipping on to ever come to the conclusion that he's ever been some "media darling" or golden boy.
Regarding the 07 SB rarely a mention is made of how incredible the Giants defense had to be to stone an offense that routinely put up 50 point games. If they had done their usual then the 17 points the Giants managed would have put then solidly in the loss column. That was what was what stood out but is burried under Eli and his MVP. Kind of like WILLIS Reed getting the MVP award while Clyde Frasier is putting up triple doubles
we all know our defense won both of those games.
Let's review the first SB win. Eli should have thrown an interception in that final series, that Patriot player missed an easy one, and then the long one that was miracously caught could easily have been a disaster. Obviously, if the interception was made, us scoring 13 points doesn't cut it.
The second SB was really about one key play. Yes it was a fantastic throw and catch. Without that drive, again, giants could have ruined a beautifully played game by our DEFENSE.
Eli has benefitted from great, and I mean great defensive play in both super bowls. Good thing, because we weren't winning any shoot outs.
Manning took the 2011 season and ran away with it. We don't go to or win the SB without him. The D did a great job in XLII, but he kept us in it with a gimpy Burress and Tyree taking snaps that counted. To write it up as anything less is revisionist history.
The problem is that Eli hasn't been seen in almost two years, and now it's a question of whether or not we'll ever see him again.
However, I think even you have to admit, if Samuel gets that pic, Eli gets no love for that game.
I know he was great in the prior playoff games, but we weren't talking about that. Stay focused (subject at hand-only super bowls) grasshopper.
Samuel - ( New Window )
And that defense was ranked #4 that season. Burress had hurt himself and was limited. Smith was still green, Toomer over the hill. Eli took those guys and kept us within striking distance the entire game, driving it home when it counted.
2 SB MVPs, and both of them well deserved. I wouldn't have lost any sleep if they had given it to Tuck, but both were equally deserving.
Whatever Eli's problem is, it's here and now. His legacy, his impact, his stats over the course of his tenure here are indisputable. The guy has done a great job, now it's time to see if he can keep performing or if his window has closed.
Only if you don't speak English. He's at peak height having jumped, his arms stretched out, and the ball bounces off the top of his fingertips.
If you consider that an 'easy interception', I'd wonder if you've ever actually watched an American football game.
That's fine. If you think that was an easy INT, I'm not sure signing your name is really in your wheelhouse anyway.
While everyone looks at that Samuel missed INT, does anyone go back and look at Giants plays that could have made these games easier to win? Plays that the Giants just missed and would have made winning less of a struggle? I doubt it highly. Selective reasoning.
The media

has always seen Manning from a perspective of the glass is half empty. Only grudgingly did he get credit when he won Super Bowls. But the collateral from those seasons never lasted as long as it did for someone like Brady, Brees, or Eli's brother.
So Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady are media darlings because of "collateral" they've gotten from their SB victories? LOL
