A few guys I'd like to see stay based on Giants-Pats

Joey in VA : 8/29/2014 2:57 pm
John Jerry looked born again last night, he was actually moving off the ball and playing interested, that was a huge plus. He obviously stays but his play last night was light years from where it was the previous few games.

Dan Fox - He didn't do anything spectacular, but he seems to have a feel for the game and more speed and quickness than the incumbents. Hoping he at least gets squadded.

Terrell Manning - I had to look up his number and we have two #63s, but Manning was on specials and in the base and looked impressive athletically to me. Not overly big, but he's similar to Fox, quick twitch guy, high effort guy, and eager on specials. He might have a future if guys like Herzlich and Paysinger are ever in danger. I know Pays made ten tackles, but he didn't look very good to me again, something just doesn't feel right with him. Great insight I know, but I'm not a huge fan.

Rogers Gaines - I think he's got to stick, his improvement in the preseason was noticeable, which means his early struggles were mental and not physical. He's got the bulk for sure, seems to have solid feet and a decent amount of upside. I'm hoping PS for him, outside chance of 53.

Chandler Fenner - He has to make the 53, simply has to. Prince, DRC, WT3 and Bowman are locks, Fenner looks to be #5 to me. I'd prefer him to McBride if it comes down to it, we may have something with this guy.

Agree with all

but I'm a McBride fan....he had a great year last year with the Giants. I think the Giants like him. I think Herzlich is in trouble.
and Jerry

was absolutely destroying people last night. Even if it was against 2's and 3's...it was great to see.
McBride has already proven himself

as an NFL CB.
Maybe Jerry was revitalized as a starter

I think given the way he played last night, plus the way other guys have played leading up to it, he has to now be considered the starting RG, regardless of the health of Mosely, Schwartz, etc. Same with Richburg at LG. If Beatty can stay healthy, the OL should be Beatty, Richburg, Walton, Jerry, Pugh unless one of those guys plays themselves out of a spot.
Fenner is more talented

You have to go with the upside, and he outperformed McBride last night by a wide margin.
agreed on fenner

john jerry continues to show why he's so maddening. he looks like an All Pro at times, his run blocking was fun to watch. other times he looks like a p#ssy, go figure
I kind of agree with you on Paysinger v. Manning
Rob in NYC : 8/29/2014 4:30 pm : link
But I doubt it breaks that way, I think Paysinger's ability to play all three spots competently, if unspectacularly, has value to the staff.

I will say having a Manning on offense and defense has cache out the ying yang.

McBride v. Fenner - I think you have to go with the guy that didn't sleep with Lisa Lampanelli. But seriously, I like Fenner longer-term.
gaines

Completely agree. Fenner has been playing very well. I noticed it a few games ago. They might have themselves a steal.
if you go with the

"have to go with upside" argument - doesn't that help someone like Gaines versus Brown?
fenner's

strong as a gunner too
Good thread. I didn't watch last night's game
Ira : 8/29/2014 6:01 pm : link
and haven't rewatched any of the pre-season games, so I appreciate the heads up on certain guys on the bubble. I'm very encouraged that Jerry is starting to play well. I can't say we're going to have a good ol, but it should be better than last year's.

This. I'd be really surprised if they let him go, and if they did, I doubt he'd pass through waivers. He's already better than Brewer and Brown.
So

It seems like weakest link on the Oline heading into the season is Walton at center.

He hasn't played in 2 years so I hope he can get better.

I think LT may still be a concern

Walton has been the least of the problems/distractions on the OL. Who have you been watching?
Sure seems like the Giants have done ….

Everything, in their power to help McBride and Hosely stick, but they keep stinking up the joint. In the mean-time. this Fenner guy keeps making plays. I just wish he'd been paired-up against other teams' #1s in the preseason.
