5 wins in preseason tells us something.

FatHeadTommy : 8/29/2014 4:56 pm
The fact that we found a way to win 5 preseason games tells me something about this team.

First, it is deep with talented players. Our seconds and thirds did a better job than the other guys' seconds and thirds. Now you nay-sayers will be quick to point out that that means little if our ones suck. Our ones can't suck with this much talent behind them. The ones may not yet be executing as a coherent unit, but with this level of talent - they will .... or some of them won't be ones for long.

Second, we have some hungry guys on this team. The twos and threes played hard and many of them are going to make this team. I think we have young hungry guys and some hard-working vets who came here to win. I see a lot of fight in these guys and I am predicting we stay in almost every game this season. They found a way to win all five of these games. That doesn't happen by accident. And I feel that we'll win some close ones even against stiff competition.

Last, been said many times, we have strong running backs. We will be better running the ball than we have been in years. We have a strong defense. The defense is expected to have strong secondary play, but it appears it is very stout against the run. If we stop the run and run the ball...... that is the formula.

This will be a winning season.... more than 9 wins.
The 2008 Detroit Lions

went 4-0 in their pre-season.
No.

Just, no.
I wish it told us something.

But honestly, I don't think so.
Our worst players did better than other teams worst players

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be facing the 3rd string defenses too often this regular season.
What It tells us
blueblood'11 : 8/29/2014 5:22 pm : link
is that they were 5 and 0 in the preseason. I will say I believe the defense will do well. But if the offense keeps this up it won't matter.
The 2012 Eagles went 4-0 in the preseason.

Then went 4-12 in the regular season, and Andy Reid got fired.
The 2013 Redskins went 4-0 in the preseason.

Then they went 3-13 in the regular season, and Mike Shanahan got fired.
Glass half full

I am with you tommy. Averaged 40 more yards per game than last year. Put together long scoring drives, except for last night, scored more touchdowns than field goals. I don't think we can go 0-6 again.

I would always rather see the team win pre-season games than lose them, but do you really think these comparisons you've made to last season are meaningful? Especially when much of the "success" you're citing came in garbage time after our starting units looked largely unimpressive? The lack of offensive development our top unit showed may not be particularly meaningful come regular season games (let's hope!), but I just don't know how anyone can put much, or hell, any, weight on accomplishments by bench players in glorified practices.
its preseason

and ZERO gameplanning.
I don't know that those 5 wins tells us much . . . .

beyond that some of our 2's & 3's may have played OK. But I found last night's game more promising. The O line didn't look as bad, Eli, despite stats, didn't look as bad, and the offense in general is beginning to resemble that of an NFL team.

If the coaches can find some way of preventing WR cranial-rectal insertion, this baby just may get rolling and chug on down the track!
2007 Patriots went 4 and 0 in preseason

and then 19 and 0 in the regular season and playoffs. Uh 18 and 1 sorry
if anything

it tells us we're more likely to suck then do well.

but in the end, it's meaningless. Our first team offense blows.
No it doesn't...

It's always more important

to see how your young players play than wins/losses.
I think our young guys looked pretty good. Some will make this team and that's a good sign.

We really have no idea how this offense will do. I suspect that McAdoo will go heavy run vs. pass until the Oline settles down. We may not see the "real" offense until the second half of the season.
shhhhhhh you'll give away our secret plan

Fall behind early and then bring in the backups to win the game
5 wins in preseason tells me exactly one thing.

1973 again
bob16 : 8/29/2014 10:21 pm : link
As an old-timer, whenever I see a thread like this, I go right back to 1973 - 6-0 in the pre-season, 2-11-1 in the regular season.
