The fact that we found a way to win 5 preseason games tells me something about this team.
First, it is deep with talented players. Our seconds and thirds did a better job than the other guys' seconds and thirds. Now you nay-sayers will be quick to point out that that means little if our ones suck. Our ones can't suck with this much talent behind them. The ones may not yet be executing as a coherent unit, but with this level of talent - they will .... or some of them won't be ones for long.
Second, we have some hungry guys on this team. The twos and threes played hard and many of them are going to make this team. I think we have young hungry guys and some hard-working vets who came here to win. I see a lot of fight in these guys and I am predicting we stay in almost every game this season. They found a way to win all five of these games. That doesn't happen by accident. And I feel that we'll win some close ones even against stiff competition.
Last, been said many times, we have strong running backs. We will be better running the ball than we have been in years. We have a strong defense. The defense is expected to have strong secondary play, but it appears it is very stout against the run. If we stop the run and run the ball...... that is the formula.
This will be a winning season.... more than 9 wins.
I would always rather see the team win pre-season games than lose them, but do you really think these comparisons you've made to last season are meaningful? Especially when much of the "success" you're citing came in garbage time after our starting units looked largely unimpressive? The lack of offensive development our top unit showed may not be particularly meaningful come regular season games (let's hope!), but I just don't know how anyone can put much, or hell, any, weight on accomplishments by bench players in glorified practices.
If the coaches can find some way of preventing WR cranial-rectal insertion, this baby just may get rolling and chug on down the track!
but in the end, it's meaningless. Our first team offense blows.
I think our young guys looked pretty good. Some will make this team and that's a good sign.
We really have no idea how this offense will do. I suspect that McAdoo will go heavy run vs. pass until the Oline settles down. We may not see the "real" offense until the second half of the season.
This is what I thought as well.
