however, anytime you have an anonymous forum you have to deal with the good and the bad.

Very recently, and you should be aware of this, this site attempted to implement a policy making it much more warm and fuzzy. The result was an explosion of trolls and stupidity that only rivaled this site before the warm and fuzzy days. So in honesty...there was no change at all.

So what am I saying? Simply put this is the internet. It really is the last of the frontier country. You have to be on your toes and ready to defend yourself at a moments notice. You'll either learn quick and last a long time, or, more than likely, simply fade away. Of course you have the occasional poster going down in a blaze of glory but this doesn't happen often.

You want to change this site? You want to make it better? Welcome aboard and do just that. Be like the vast majority of posters here who try to have good conversations and keep the stupidity to a low(ish)level.

If you think the inner circle(which honestly doesn't exist but for the sake of discussion)is running amok then stand up and call them out. Show them you can't be pushed around and you might be surprised how it turns out.

This is as good a site as there is on the interwebs. Can it be better, of course, but nothing is ever perfect.

Instead of trying to throw down the gauntlet and make massive changes maybe you should just slide on in and make little changes like most of us do on here. You might be surprised how well it works out in the end.

Some of those posts get shit on, some don't.

There have been new posters that sign up and contribute good stuff from day one and there's still others that have been here forever and still haven't figured how to do that.

Ok, that's mostly a joke, but the point is, if the contribution is informative, funny, or just an honest inquiry, it's generally accepted around here.

I was trashed as a troll when I first joined here. And many of the posts are disgusting. But this is NY, man. The intellect, the humor of the people here is like nowhere else. So I just let the a-holes flow over me and appreciate this place. That's why I donate.

It's simple. Make your first 20 posts reasonable RESPONSES to existing threads. Join discussions. If you try to make your first post a big "splash" that's not well reasoned, you're going to catch a lot of grief.

I come straight to the forums. I would consider donating if these forums were some oddball 1990's format/layout. People can say it's unique or whatnot but it's behind the times and needs to change.

The other part is if this site dies I'll just go somewhere else

Is this a joke? You're moving to Phoenix so you joined a Cardinals site? Wtf? I can't, for the life of me, figure out why you would want to do that.

Oh, and the mob mentality on this site is, absolutely, a joke. It's worse than freaking high school. Except in high school the guys flapping their ball washers weren't hiding behind their computers 1500 miles away. But, the site has much more good than bad, so that's why I contribute.

a lot of the better posters have vanished in recent years as the site has been overrun (at times) by silly comments and inane discussion

This has always been a great place for info and quality discussion about the Giants, the NFL, and a lot of other topics too...and it still is, which is why I still read it daily (and contribute annually)

But a lot of folks react harshly to rank stupidity

For examples of the "good" BBI, see recent threads started today by Marty in Albany, Osi Osi Osi, and Sy'56...interesting discussions started by good, well informed/well read Giant fans

For the opposite, check out the typical game threads

occasionally here, Eric gets ripped sometimes. Everyone in your inner circle has been trashed. The only poster in my time here not to get trashed wads Hope Johnson. This place is self policed and no one is immune when the go off the reservation

Even though I'm sure you'll still continue to come here, read the news and updates, etc. which is the real reason you should be contributing... not because of how people interact on a message board on the internet.

anonymity provides cover for the internal jackass in us all. I tend to follow Dalton's Rule for this one - be nice, and remember that it's just the internet, it's nothing personal. Two nouns combined to elicit a proscribed response and such. If you persistently post well founded and thought out opinions you'll be accepted here and get on just fine.

if people are allowed to post whatever crap pops into their head, and it's off limits to criticize what seem like ill-informed or occasionally idiotic thread premises, then many sophisticated or football savvy people will also stop participating.
