Gentlemen - I registered tonight just to make sure you understood one potential reason why. Plus its a Friday night, so some of you will very much enjoy taking shots at this waiting for tomorrow's cutdown to 53 players
That itself speaks to the problem. We are all Giant fans. But the way some posters are trashed for expressing their opinion is unwarranted and damn right rude.
So why would I want to express an opinion to get trashed by the "BBI inner circle".
So I don't.
If you want more contributions maybe it's time to start managing the site better.
I don't send my money to places that aren't properly managed.
Consider that others may not either.
Ok folks - load up if you cannot resist yourselves
Meh, who needs imagination?
I based it off of the plans for this one:
Quote:
Inner circle and how do I join?
The more you ask, the less likely you find out.
If Brett's in it and I'm not I'm going to be pissed

......... #awkward
Not seeing the spanking machine, though...
Well, to be fair, we're already smarter than everyone else merely by being hockey fans.
Mine is just a small bedroom in the basement. With a lock on the door, obviously. Sound proofing is my next project.
I skipped that part as I don't like associating with those weirdos.

GDI!!
Nice scarf, too.
I contribute to BBI because it is a source of Giants info, the best Yankees minor league info, good Knicks info and general news and entertainment, including economics and foreign affairs. I check in every day because the posters here generally share my interests as to what is news. You have a very limited view of BBI. Its competition in my world are everything on TV (which mostly sucks) and the NY Times and the NY Post (which mostly suck). When I look at what I pay for those news sources, contributing to BBI is a bargain.
I wouldn't expect a person like that to contribute unless, in his heart, he felt he was getting a substantial amount from the site without participating.
It's the people who participate a lot, can afford to make a contribution, and know they are getting a lot from BBI in general that would be more likely to make a contribution, so BBSince60s isn't making a useful comment.
In fact one of the things that I get the most of from BBI is how it challenges me to make articulate, well supported points on economic issues. I'm a better professional, believe it or not, because BBI forced me to become one in order to make my points cogent, effective and well-supported. (At least I think they are.) And to make sure that my points stand up to smart people that I disagree with, which I have done quite frequently the years. Back in 2006-7, I made some points without doing my homework, before the crisis hit, and it turned out I was clearly wrong. I learned an important lesson from that.
Are you simply expanding your food target audience? <grin>
Yeah, I have to get into Southwestern food now. Until that happens I've already gotten 5 suggestions for pizza places, lol
That said, it isn't any one group - there's multiple groups of frequent posters that tend to band together, some that float through all groups, and a few that seem universally hated. But as had been said, it's the internet, you've got to have some thick skin and not take crap personal. Perfectly ordinary people can be total jackasses behind a computer (how many times how you heard a BBI'er say 'He's a good guy in real life, I've met him, he contributes to charity, etc...). If you enjoy the site, ignore them and post anyway. There's always some people who will take a topic/discussion seriously (as long as it isn't completely, MIS level nutty, or 'Germanyly' repetitive...).
So anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is, ignore all the jackasses and all the other people who get off on being internet tough guys or insulting people for the smallest issue or whatever on the site. Donate if you enjoy the site, especially if you're her often, not just posting but reading threads, Eric's reports & recaps, the font page updates....you don't need to be a frequent poster or in with the crowd to donate. If you enjoy the site, silently everyday or posting constantly, you should donate if you're here a lot. You're getting something out of the site (info/entertainment), and Eric has to pay to keep it running and work to manage it and put out content, or hire people to....so it ain't free basically. That's just my $.02 - if you use the site pretty frequently, everyday poster or rare/never, inner circle or on the finge, you should give something if you're her often, just to help keep the place going for all us users, even the jackass ones that no one seems to like. :)
If Eric wasn't satisfied with the way things are going he would try to change things. The one area in which it may hurt him is in trying to get in tighter with the Giants' organization and the Giants' media. I think Pat Hanlon commented on the lack of civility here.
But who gives a rat's ass about the regulars being nasty to you? What kind of lives do they have if they spend two-thirds of their waking hours posting on a football message board. Especially if the team sucks.

Well there was something about how there are the same people donating each year with very few new donors... It would be wise to see why many of the lurkers which may far outnumber the actual number of posters don't contribute. Many if these people won't take the time to register to tell you why they don't contribute and when they do they get met with sarcasm and jokes.
To be honest it is a fair criticism of the boards and it is absolutely fair for the "regulars" to say deal with it. They are the ones donating after all. Then without some improvements there really is no incentive for new members to donate to a board that allows its members to make fun of/demean new posters no matter how crazy the post.
To many people this site isn't worth the donation because they would get ridiculed if they post. In the meantime many probably come here because of seeking a giant fix and reading anything giants related that they come across.
The main reason I came here was because this sites/board was supposed to be better than other boards but now that is no longer the case. Maybe it's me that has changed but I no longer view this board as better than any other board out there.
Don't take my word for it I will probably have a few posts before I fade into internet oblivion again. It should come as no surprise that I would not contribute monetarily to the site currently so my opinion likely should not matter.
What about it has changed for you? I'm interested to hear specifics on this.
Instead of starting stupid shit threads like this, why don't you just continue to lurk? It's obvious that your level of contribution isn't going to be much better than whining.
Now how about a nice cup of STFU?
BS...you know this is a perfect description for most of us...
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind

The site is certainly doing well. I get all these sophisticated targeted ads from major advertisers based on where I've been on the 'net lately.

not better - relative to which sites?
If there's a better site out there - I want to know about it - spill the beans da_blue

Why don't you name those posters? Perhaps Eric would keep an eye on it if he knew who these guys were.
As another newer poster who was attacked by the inner sanctum of BBI and is no longer here once said:
"Gird Your Balls"!!!

How about that kickstarter thing?

LOL!

Wikimedia is a registered 503(c) nonprofit organization. It's not really a fair analogy.

When I first came across this site there really was no other good source of information regarding the giants... Even giants.com was poorly constructed at the time. Espn team boards had decent discussion up until miller was hired for MNF then it went to shit that is when I found this site.
I used this site for more updates from people that attended camp and other discussion that I really could not get anywhere else. Now with twitter updates and numerous outlets for more up to date information there really is no information that this board has that others don't anymore. Although there have been improvements to the content and to the server side of the forums the client side is still years behind in my opinion but this was by design.
Another problem was the slight moderation if the boards and what appeared to be selective moderation (I don't know about now as much) turned me off. Either leaving it unmoderated or adhering to the rules would have made it better.
I have seen many other forums where they are able to stick to the topic being discussed and not derail the discussion which happens more often on this site than I am willing to deal with.
When I click on a topic I expect to be talking about that topic and not have to sort through multiple posts of sarcasm, German Murphy comments, and apparently in this thread a minor derailment about bdsm equipment.
With other boards that do a better job of sticking to the topic even if it isn't a giants board it is not worth it to contribute much to this board.
Kickstarter and go fund me are different animals.
Those sites sole purpose is asking for donations (although kick starter is really just another way to sell merchandise)
Meh, civility is overrated on a message board in my opinion. Yes, sometimes it can be a bit harsh, but some people are a bit more straight forward in not suffering fools than others. As has been stated previously by some posters, not all ttreads, posts, and opinions are created equal. Some just need as much beat down as can be doled out to prevent similar level of idiocies from being posted again. With that being said, Eric and the mods have banned outright trolls (maybe not as fast as we would like), and if some posters don't want to come back after their dumb opinions get hammered, then who really gives a fuck?
My position has always been that blunt but straight forward engagement is far better than passive aggressive bullshit. People don't have time for that shit.
