These moves have NOT officially been confirmed.
The New York Giants reportedly cut or released thus far:
- QB Curtis Painter
- RB Kendall Gaskins
- RB Michael Cox
- FB John Conner
- WR Julian Talley
- TE Kellen Davis
- OL Rogers Gaines
- OL Mark Asper
- OL Jamaal Johnson-Webb
- OL Adam Gress
- DE Israel Idonije
- DE Jordan Stanton
- DT Kelcy Quarles
- LB Dan Fox
- LB Terrell Manning
- CB Bennett Jackson
- CB Chandler Fenner
- S Thomas Gordon
Giants reportedly place the following players on Injured Reserve (injury settlements possible):
- WR Trindon Holliday
- WR Mario Manningham
New York Daily News reporting the following to Reserve/Suspended List:
- OL Eric Herman
- CB Jayron Hosley
WR Corey Washington tweeted he made the team.
Jordan Raanan reports: Chance TE Kellen Davis is re-signed by the Giants after Week 1, per source.
Giants activated LB Jon Beason from PUP.
Shows how little we "see" in preseason
Probably be available(at his age) if needed
I put Idonije and Painter in this category- if we cut them, it's unlikely they will be picked up by anyone else and will be available to be re-signed, if needed.
will be a surprise.. 4 would be cut..
:)
Excellent point Matt
Not arguing whether he should have been kept. JPP and Moore weren't going anywhere. They just signed Ayers - so Idonije would have had to beat out Kiwi or proved he was more valuable as a DE than Kuhn was as a DT.
My wife and I are saving every day. :)
Quote:
I wonder if this is a circumstance where they released him so he's not on the roster in week 1 and plan to bring him back so his contract is not guaranteed.
Excellent point Matt
Agreed. Good thought.
Kelcy Quarles tweets that he's been released. #NYG
This is what I thought. Very possible.
Thank God I made it. #Gmen
Giants are not bringing in a bunch of new players cut from other teams. I could see one, two at the most.

Gotcha
These constitute the scout team that the starters practice against week to week.
That's the reason you don't keep kickers on the PS. They can't practice, and since any team could sign that player at any time anyway you're just as well off leaving them on the street rather than adding them to your PS.
But yes, there is a pool of FA vets that will be available throughout the season. Because if the vesting rules, the pool will probably stocked with its best talent between now and the end of week one.
With the best of them getting picked up this week, maybe we should call the remainders The Desperation Squad, the guys available when you're desperate for a body, lol

Wynne-Kuhn is another.
The OTs
Probably.
OL Jamaal Johnson-Webb has been waived
Agreed. I would have kept Quarles over Kuhn, and I'm not sure Quarles gets through waivers. In Kuhn's defense, when he did play this preseason, I saw a number of plays where he was being double teamed, or at least being chipped by a second defender. PFF gave him a -4.0 grade IIRC, but it looked to me like other teams were paying attention to him.
Wynn and Stanton may also not get through waivers.
I think Yuch has been practicing with the 1s :)
That's not how the practice squad works you can't stash somebody on the practice squad that has already been playing in regular-season games for their whole career
Thanks, I hope that's how it goes and we can hold on to them, if cut
David Douglas was claimed off our PS by the Bucs during the regular season, but I can't remember if that was last year or the year before. Maybe that's who you're thinking of.
Nice!
That was posted here over an hour ago :)
Holiday has way more upside.
There 60 Preston Parker's at the bottom of rosters and PS's.
10 done, 12 to go
Big news for Parker RT @Rand_Getlin: #Giants have placed WR Mario Manningham and WR/KR Trindon Holliday on IR, per a league source.
Holiday has way more upside.

Really? He's only a return man. Parker looked better than JJ and of he was an ex 3rd round pile of Reese wouldn't even be a question to make the team as opposed to JJ. Holiday hasn't shown anything as he's been hurt. Not sure u can't cut him and pick him up on 2-3 weeks if he's needed
Big news for Parker RT @Rand_Getlin: #Giants have placed WR Mario Manningham and WR/KR Trindon Holliday on IR, per a league source.
Why put MM on IR? Why not just cut him with an injury settlement? I assume they did this to keep him around for next year, but is it really worth it to do so? As far as Holliday is concerned, is his injury really serious enough to justify IR?
Can confirm Holliday and Manningham to IR reports, per source.
I would hope a return guy could shake loose, lol

What are we at now? How many cuts left?

Thanks Bill, traveling and trying to keep track on my phone.
When Beckham gets healthy, he'll be returning punts. We also signed Demps because he's an experienced returner. No need to bring in anyone new at this stage of the game.
Sucks.
Injury settlement only makes sense. Neither has serious injury.
Holliday said he would practice this week. Manningham had minor calf injury.
The likely end for both of these players, especially Holliday, is an injury settlement. #nyg
Sucks.
Same :(
This. Really sorry about Holliday given how sorry our return game has been the last few years. Dare I say we will soon be treated to more of RR fair catching everything.
Vested vets (4+ yrs) don't go thru waivers. Right to IR then settlement. RT @RusselHenderso1: Why IR + not waived with an injury settlement?
On Mario Manningham and Trindon Holliday: both players are on short-term IR. Neither has a season-ending injury.
On Mario Manningham and Trindon Holliday: both players are on short-term IR. Neither has a season-ending injury.
Did the rule change? I am confused...
Chance TE Kellen Davis is re-signed by the #Giants after Week 1, per source.
The Giants have also released OL Adam Gress.
I think he means the minor injury designation. It's temp in that they can play again for another team when the settlement is reached. But even then, it's a poor tweet.
Yeah, seems ridiculous
Rand Getlin's tweet on short-term IR makes no sense. I think he's trying to suggest IR, then injury settlement/cut.
Big Blue Interactive @BigBlueInteract 49s
Teams only have one short-term IR move and the Giants won't waste that on Manningham or Holliday.
Also some decent reserve OL emerging. I would be shocked in someone who can play tackle isn't claimed.
Also some decent reserve OL emerging. I would be shocked in someone who can play tackle isn't claimed.
That also mean more cuts for us.
Good info, thanks!
Both Holiday and Manningham may be waiting on injury settlements. Can they play again this year after taking an injury settlement? It might be up to both of them to decide.
I'm hoping Washington can get in there and practice with Eli to get that timing down. Fast and tall could be a great help to Eli when he's in trouble. He's dominant fighting for the ball and can grab it at it's highest point. He will win most of those battles and draw a lot of flags.

The short term IR makes little sense for Schwartz if he is really 3-4 weeks away as TC said yesterday in his presser. Maybe Holliday to short term IR????
Beatty.
Richburg.
Walton.
Jerry.
Pugh.
Schwartz, Mosley, Gaines, and Reynolds. Brewer and Brown are cut for now. Maybe bring one back, or a vet FA from another team after Schwartz goes on short term IR.
I am very glad I sent my check to Eric last week, hopefully it was received in good order.
Thank you again Eric.
Just to clafiry and confirm: It is season-ending IR for Mario Manninham and Trindon Holliday. Injury settlements eventually likely.

Acid, I don't see any post saying that Brown, Brewer or Asper have been cut. Am I missing something?
I know he's only an UDFA and made some mistakes, but I really think Quarles has so much more upside than Kuhn. Hope they make it to PS.

No. There is none. Just my speculation on what I think will happen.
4 year vet with injuries go to ir then settlement then released
Terrell Manning
Julian Talley or Preston Parker
Jordan Stanton
Kerry Wynn or Markus Kuhn
Thomas Gordon
Brown
Mark Asper
Michael Gaskins
James Brewer/Michael Cox/MArk Herzlich or Chandler Fenner
Charlie peprah
I think Wynn and Fenner have excellent chances to stick at this point.
Dark horse: Gordon.
If the team thinks the risk of a waiver claim is low, you can make it up to the player with a nominal signing bonus when you bring them back.
If this refers to the Cards' Brown, I thought he was secure, but an article following their last game included him in the possible cuts, so I threw his name in
If the team thinks the risk of a waiver claim is low, you can make it up to the player with a nominal signing bonus when you bring them back.
We need to save a roster spot for Schwartz because we can't use the short term IR for anyone who isn't on the 53. Not so for Herman and Hosley because they are on the suspended list.
From all reports that I have read John Brown seems like their number three. Why would he be cut?
There's two different Brown players at WR. John Brown is a rookie and is expected to vie for the third spot.
I hope everyone has the 2012 season on DVR because it was obvious then and many stated it: that was the best trio of receivers we had ever or are likely to see again.
Quote:
Walt Powell, Brittan Golden or John Brown. All 3 are smallish WRs with punt return experience. Could be a 6th WR
From all reports that I have read John Brown seems like their number three. Why would he be cut?
My mistake. I reread the article and it's Jaron Brown, not John.
The article made it sound like they were cut.
Something tells me week 3 or 4 doesn't happen and is a pipe dream.
Great day today! Now I'm ready for some #Wolfpack #football! @PackFootball start the season of right! #GoPack
Good sign he's cut or good sign he's safe?
Hope Jackson makes it through.
Didn't TC also say that Beckham didn't have a setback?
Quote:
@JordanRaanan: OL James Brewer came and went from #Giants facility earlier today. No word. Have to think that is a good sign.

Says he simply left, not left with a giant black trash bag full of his possessions. Safe IMO
Well there have been LBers better than Herz and they were cut. I'm not so sure if it always works that way. I recall TC's comments from cut day 2011.
If Quarles doesn't get to the PS, I'm not going to be happy about keeping Kuhn. As tho anyone cares, lol

Where does that leave us as far as Gaines? Room for both?
It might mean we don't get first choice, but there will be more than one guy worth his salt on the waiver wire. Might not be a direction we go, but I'd be surprised if we didn't at least take a look.

If true, we're starting to get some surprises, at least to me. Demps out, Manning in.
If it's all BS, can you block him from posting for the day?
Who knows? It's all so cryptic with these tweets.
Sometimes I think they tip the wink about the practice squad when they cut them, he might just be thankful for getting on to the practice squad.
RB Kendall Gaskins, who rushed for 104 on 29 carries this preseason, has been cut by the Giants, according to a source.
maybe they're trading for Will Hill
Meh, all that says is player is total shit, noone wantd him ans he's a has been or a never was. Duuno why you thinbk Connor sucks so bad it's some sort or surety he'll be sitting there twiddling his thumbs.Just seems like some stupid shit to say.

If Gaskins is cut, I can't imagine Hillis is also cut. I don't see us going with Cox as the 3rd RB.
Same question as to other cuts that BBI posters may claim were mistakes.
Criticizing the Giants for poor drafting is fair, but cutting borderline NFL players who are not difference makers is not.
The beat goes on without ever changing tempo.
So I may be more in agreement with Giant's brass than you, but that doesn't mean I'm right either.
Anyway, we'll both see how it shakes out soon.
Go Giants!
Perhaps Ryan Clark

Sorry, but just exactly how many plays have you seen Kuhn make? All I see is him dancing with the O Lineman blocking him. I've watched him on numerous plays and he always does nothing. Do not understand the attraction for him by TC.
Go Giants!
But that era has thankfully ended.
Who dreads opening night? I'm fucking pumped. Don't live in fear.
But that era has thankfully ended.
I do blame them for poor player development. Austin working with some pretty good defensive minds now may add to his talent.
2.CB Jayron Hosley to the Reserves/Suspended list for violating the NFL's drug policy (a four-game suspension).
3. DE Israel Idonije
4. DL Kelcy Quarles
5. LB Dan Fox
6. TE Kellen Davis
7. CB Bennett Jackson
8. OL Jamaal Johnson-Webb
9. FB John Conner
10. QB Curtis Painter
11. WR Mario Manningham (to injured reserve)
12. WR/KR Trindon Holliday (to injured reserve)
13. OL Adam Gress
14. DE Jordan Stanton
15. RB Kendall Gaskins
There was talk about giving him some dink passes and letting him run with them
They don't count against the roster. They only count after their suspensions end. We either put them on the roster at that time or cut them.
Agree.
Miami cuts Eric Winston. Might be worth a shot.
He was already included in the 75, so that won't change the number of cuts needed
superbowl...
Why would you pick him up?
If that's true, and he begins to have an NFL career, that's a bad look for the Giants front office.
Defensive back Thomas Gordon will be waived, per source. Only a few more cuts to go. Here's the list so far: #giants http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2014/08/giants_roster_2014_track_saturdays_cuts_live_right_here.html

Agreed
'cause he played the same way in college.
Wired to the blocker and just dancing around like it was Saturday night at the local pub.
Still dunno why Reese drafted this guy. But it's all of a piece.

Dr. Reese has some explaining to do.
Um - Eric Winston Sux - Osi went by him for 6 sacks in one game
...than John Conner?
Never mind!
Isn't he the guy who won the Heisman but has an issue with boundaries?

Always forget about the cap moves.
The so-called short list is an opinion and he may very well be on one. However, it doesn't necessarily mean he comes back after after week one

Loved his motor.
Maneri might be worth a look with this pathetic trio of TEs that we have. Problem is I think Reese is hell bent on keeping Robinson for one more year. Why? I have no clue, most likely pride. I'd keep an eye on if Sudfeld is cut from the Jets. I read he's on the bubble. I'd take Sudfeld and Maneri over Donnell and Robinson. And keep Fells. Still not a great group of TEs but it's an upgrade.

You know coaches are involved in the process, right?
Correct? ??
That's why I'm mystified as to why he hasn't been cut yet.
He's actually rated as a pretty beastly blocker.
Correct? ??
I thought was the case that teams had time but I read on this thread that Quarles made it to PS a couple of times. ???
Or injuries devastate another team's DL and he gets signed to the 53 man roster
Asper may have been told this morning he was cut. And probably was.
if he is only going to miss 3-4 weeks we should be able to hold him active especially since it seems like 10 OL will be opening roster
He was cut by the Pats. One team. And in the little he's shown, it's more than Robinson has shown.
If I'm the Giants, I'm keeping a close eye on WR Vincent Brown, whom Chargers will reportedly waive injured today with a calf injury. #NYG
It appears RB Peyton Hillis will be a last-minute decision. Other factors will influence the decision there. #giants
Did he struggle any worse than Brown or Brewer?
Been hearing Giants may keep just 3 RBs, plus one on PS. ... RT @JordanRaanan: It appears RB Peyton Hillis will be a last-minute decision.
I believe it's 4:00
Been hearing Giants may keep just 3 RBs, plus one on PS. ... RT @JordanRaanan: It appears RB Peyton Hillis will be a last-minute decision.
Hillis can't go on PS. I'm not sure if Cox can. So they have to either keep Hillis on the 53 or lose him
probably keep hillis on roster with cox(if eligible) on ps or keep cox on the roster with gaskins on PS
guessing cox is eligible then for 1 of the 2 extra spots
Well, if we kept Manningham all we'd need is a guy with concussion problems and we could piece together one healthy WR out of them.
Been hearing Giants may keep just 3 RBs, plus one on PS. ... RT @JordanRaanan: It appears RB Peyton Hillis will be a last-minute decision.
Hillis looked good in the Pats game. I think if they only carry 3 RBs, Hillis is better than Cox in just about every aspect of the game. Give me a guy who can pick up the blitz and catch a ball out of the flat any day of the week, especially if that guy is only going to be your #3 RB.
Then what reason is Robinson still on this team? What exactly has he shown that warrants a roster spot?
Quote:
You watch a guy make a few plays on television in a preseason game. You know nothing about his history, practice habits, performance in the games you did not see but we should bring him to replace somebody that you don't like. By the way, the notion that Reese would keep a guy around because of pride is just stupid. First, he cut Austin pretty early in the game, a higher pick than Robinson.

athleticism and ability to catch passes and ok blocking
extra OL is 1,other probably defensive side at either DL(10th) or DB(11th)

That might not be such a bad thing. With the QB that will be sitting there at the top of the draft, it wouldn't be the worst result for the long-term.

He's not 264, more like 215
