And you're upset about parting ways with a kicker

who squib-kicked out of bounds in his last preseason game with the Giants and then missed a 52-yard field goal in his first preseason game with the Broncos?
Holliday
halfback20 : 8/30/2014 12:41 pm : link
Sucks losing him because I was excited about his potential big play ability as a point returner...but it's not a disaster.
Quarles in the Pro Bowl?
PatersonPlank : 8/30/2014 12:42 pm : link
He was undrafted and was barely hanging on for a spot on the deep bench. At WR we have other guys who have flashed such as Washington. I don't agree at all.
Dry Lightning: Before claiming that Quarles is a

potential Pro Bowl player, shouldn't we wait and see whether he's claimed by another team?

Same question as to other cuts that BBI posters may claim were mistakes.
Holiday when healthy averaged a drop per day at WR
Defenderdawg : 8/30/2014 12:49 pm : link
In practice...when did he demonstrate to the Giants, to Denver, to anyone that he was anything more than a returner...

Criticizing the Giants for poor drafting is fair, but cutting borderline NFL players who are not difference makers is not.

Kelcy Quarles.

Quarles will be on the practice squad

Said Quarles COULD be a pro bowl player.........
Dry Lightning : 8/30/2014 1:02 pm : link
He is better than Kuhn right now. Kuhn has jumped up and knocked down a pass in three years. That is it. He stinks. Period. Quarles might get poached, either today or later. Moronic move. If Holiday is close to full health, why the fuck would you cut him. Holiday is a guy made for that role specifically, why risk Beckham there. As for Mcmanus trade, obviously Denver and others thought he was pretty good. The kick out of bounds means zip. Poor coaching decision. Just let him kick it out of the end zone. As for missing a 54 yard kick, lets see how many of those Brown makes this year, while missing a couple of chippies. I love this team, and have always been a JR supporter, but I think we are doomed.
Yep, and Barden, Moss, Dodge, Ballard, A Brown, etc, etc
PatersonPlank : 8/30/2014 1:02 pm : link
All these guys were supposed to come back to "haunt us". If you listen to some people you'd think we cut an All-Pro team. I think the Giants have done a very good job on the cuts over the years, not many have turned into something elsewhere.
Coughlin has always had good things to say about Kuhn
Mason : 8/30/2014 1:04 pm : link
If it was me. I would have cut Patterson and let Quarles on. Patterson highest point was preseason last year fighting for a roster spot and a return to the NFL. Diminishing along the season. But I understand if the coaching staff wants experience besides Jenkins.
ok
Sir-Yes-Sir : 8/30/2014 1:05 pm : link
quarles could be a pro-bowl player. guess what? kuhn could be a pro-bowl player. I could be a pro-bowl player. the percentages of any of these turning out right are a bit hazy at this point, but all statements are true
Why do you keep saying that Holliday was cut?!
Exit 172 : 8/30/2014 1:06 pm : link
(And misspelling his name?)
Because this bullshit injury sttelement
Dry Lightning : 8/30/2014 1:07 pm : link
means someone else will pick him up this year. Just like Dan Connor last year.
He has a hammy.....
Dry Lightning : 8/30/2014 1:08 pm : link
just let it heal!
Exit...
halfback20 : 8/30/2014 1:09 pm : link
to be fair...he has basically been cut. He's not gonna play for the Giants this year.
Holliday
sps28 : 8/30/2014 1:12 pm : link
is just as likely to fumble as he is to return it for td, and since He hasn't been healthy at all during training camp there has been no way for the staff to work on the fumbling issue.

aquidneck : 8/30/2014 1:13 pm : link
It's all just opinions. I like Kuhn better than Quarles (who I think has a about a 99% chance of passing through waivers on ending up on our practice squad if we want him), don't like that fumbler Holiday and am happy with tge vet Brown over a strong legged but erratic McManus.

So I may be more in agreement with Giant's brass than you, but that doesn't mean I'm right either.

Anyway, we'll both see how it shakes out soon.

Go Giants!
Before you kill this regime for some cuts that will shine elsewhere
djm : 8/30/2014 1:13 pm : link
Remember how many cuts came back to haunt this organization since 04. Not many. I can think of one-- the DE on Miami, Cameron wake.

Dreading opening night....................
Dry Lightning : 8/30/2014 1:13 pm : link
It's like a date with the gallows.
Marvin Austin
Defenderdawg : 8/30/2014 1:15 pm : link
Who washed out here, washed out of a perfect scheme for him in Dallas, and was not signed after several other tryouts, has had a tremendous training camp in Denver...who knows why or when at this point, but for Quarles or someone in his place, the light had to come on, the work ethic in the training room and on the field have to improve, and it has to be the right scheme. He wasn't drafted for a reason and it may be a couple of years before he puts it all together or he may just be someone who looks the part of a player...but he is not ready now.

Perhaps Ryan Clark
once Holliday
bluepepper : 8/30/2014 1:18 pm : link
had the inevitable fumble or two, he would have been glued to the bench. TC has zero tolerance for that.

Sorry, but just exactly how many plays have you seen Kuhn make? All I see is him dancing with the O Lineman blocking him. I've watched him on numerous plays and he always does nothing. Do not understand the attraction for him by TC.

Go Giants!
Dry. (Assuming Holliday is cut) I think the short answer is that
Marty in Albany : 8/30/2014 1:19 pm : link
right now our receiving corps is so thin that we can't afford to keep Holliday as a 6th WR. If we had five veteran, healthy WRs, it would be a different story.
I
AcidTest : 8/30/2014 1:20 pm : link
don't blame the Giants for cutting Austin, no matter what he goes on to do. I blame them for drafting him, and with a second round pick no less.

But that era has thankfully ended.
Clark too
djm : 8/30/2014 1:21 pm : link
And i wish we had Bennett back but he wasn't cut. Just not re-signed.

Who dreads opening night? I'm fucking pumped. Don't live in fear.
Dry, It is a crime we lost Dan Connor
Sir-Yes-Sir : 8/30/2014 1:22 pm : link
who is now a perennial pro-bowler. damn.
I should have added for completeness, that Holliday is not
Marty in Albany : 8/30/2014 1:22 pm : link
a WR. He is only a returner, so he adds nothing to the WR squad.
If they lose and suck ass so be it..
djm : 8/30/2014 1:22 pm : link
I still think this regime owes me nothing. It's time to win again but there's still a bit of a house money mentality from my pov.

I do blame them for poor player development. Austin working with some pretty good defensive minds now may add to his talent.
Or
Toth029 : 8/30/2014 1:26 pm : link
He just sucked and/or was lazy.
Let's not put Austin in the pro bowl just yet

There was talk about giving him some dink passes and letting him run with them
Question
PhilD : 8/30/2014 1:30 pm : link
Herman and Hosley count against the initial 53 Roster. On what date can they be put on the reserve suspended list and 2 players signed to replace them?

They don't count against the roster. They only count after their suspensions end. We either put them on the roster at that time or cut them.
you guys that want to cut Patterson are nuts imho

Agree.

Miami cuts Eric Winston. Might be worth a shot.

He was already included in the 75, so that won't change the number of cuts needed

Why would you pick him up?
Gaskins suprises me,

Thought he makes the cut
Re: Gaskins. All things being equal, I guess the choice was
Marty in Albany : 8/30/2014 1:43 pm : link
between keeping a big strong runner who can break tackles (similar to the three RBs ahead of Gaskins) or keeping Cox, a fast, shifty runner, who can avoid tackles.
I feel bad for Eric Winston
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 1:45 pm : link
Miami and Seattle both cut him on the same day.
BTW everyone killing Austin
nygiants1114 : 8/30/2014 1:45 pm : link
Made the team over a good vet in Dickerson, they love him in Denver, had back surgery and took out bones from his back and feels a million times better, doctor told him it was practically paralyzed and he played with it for 2 years for the giants, remember this when you say players are lazy and dont work hard.
