September 1: After 12 noon, New York time, clubs may establish a Practice Squad of ten players. The criteria for Practice Squad eligibility has been expanded in two respects. First, a player must have a minimum of six games up from the current three games on a Practice Squad in order for that season to count as one of the players three permissible seasons of Practice Squad service. Second, each club will be permitted to sign a maximum of two Practice Squad players who have earned no more than two accrued seasons of free agency credit. Absent this exception, a player who has earned one or more accrued seasons would not be eligible for a Practice Squad unless the player spent fewer than nine games on a clubs 46-player active list in each of his accrued seasons.

He was cut by the Pats. One team. And in the little he's shown, it's more than Robinson has shown.

Did he struggle any worse than Brown or Brewer?
Question
PhilD : 8/30/2014 2:32 pm : link
If a teams puts in a claim for a waved player, do they have to cut another player immediately or do they wait until they have been awarded the player
DeVito 32

That I don't know. Winston was a FA this offseason and the Giants signed Charles Brown instead. Winston is also more a RT.

Hillis can't go on PS. I'm not sure if Cox can. So they have to either keep Hillis on the 53 or lose him
I would hope they're not having a hard time with that last roster spot
jcn56 : 8/30/2014 2:36 pm : link
because if they are, the fact that Peyton Hillis is a last second decision is worrisome. He's exactly the kind of journeyman that you can pick up relatively easily during the season for little money and mediocre return.
Sudfield
Samiam : 8/30/2014 2:37 pm : link
You watch a guy make a few plays on television in a preseason game. You know nothing about his history, practice habits, performance in the games you did not see but we should bring him to replace somebody that you don't like. By the way, the notion that Reese would keep a guy around because of pride is just stupid. First, he cut Austin pretty early in the game, a higher pick than Robinson.

Well, if we kept Manningham all we'd need is a guy with concussion problems and we could piece together one healthy WR out of them.

Hillis looked good in the Pats game. I think if they only carry 3 RBs, Hillis is better than Cox in just about every aspect of the game. Give me a guy who can pick up the blitz and catch a ball out of the flat any day of the week, especially if that guy is only going to be your #3 RB.

Then what reason is Robinson still on this team? What exactly has he shown that warrants a roster spot?

athleticism and ability to catch passes and ok blocking
If Hillis is cut, then doubtful any other team picks him up. So, sign

him after Lions game and then salary is on game-by-game basis.
Kris Durham was cut today by Detroit

He's a guy I'd take a look at. 6'6", 215 pounds. I believe he was 2nd in receiving for the Lions last year. He had a pretty good year overall.

I think this team is on a rocket ride to the 2015 number one pick.

That might not be such a bad thing. With the QB that will be sitting there at the top of the draft, it wouldn't be the worst result for the long-term.

Hillis and Cox. Hillis all the way. I don't care how much more he makes, he is worth it should we lose Jennings or Williams.
3 RBs only is possible?
Exit 172 : 8/30/2014 3:03 pm : link
Wow...that would mean only 5 roster spots used on QBs and RBs.

I guess that would be to make extra room for OL and DL?

Or maybe keep a roster spot to pick someone up. You can't throw a dart at the waiver list and not find a better RB candidate than Hillis, the guy is slower than molasses.
With Robinson
Samiam : 8/30/2014 3:08 pm : link
Personally,I could care less if he's cut or not. But, there are lots of players who did nothing for 2 or 3 years and became very good football players afterwards. Check out the careers of Amai Toomer and Cory Webster. Robinson was drafted as a project and they knew they would get nothing after his rookie season especially when he came to camp late because of school. Last year was a waste because of injury. I would not have a problem if they kept him around as a 3rd TE.

he's become a great example of just how quickly the fortunes of an NFL player can turn and how quickly an athlete can be robbed of what makes him special. Even before the famous Super Bowl toe drag he had made plenty of plays that put his athleticism on display. Anyone remember the bubble screen against Washington that he somehow managed to take to the house? He has some incredible skills. Then he cashes in on the hard work and success, technically goes home to join another contender where he's expected to be one of the missing pieces to get them over the hump and...poof...he's gone.

I hope everyone has the 2012 season on DVR because it was obvious then and many stated it: that was the best trio of receivers we had ever or are likely to see again.
