Wouldnt mind him replacing eli down the road. He's gonna be a good one. Hopefully Gardner has learned to not be Denard part 2 anymore. Just dont lose to app st again
Did I stay up like I did? Friday was a waste lol. If they had lost like last year I would have been pretty pissed. Looking forward to Penn St in a few weeks. Actual games that matter.
As for College football of I see one more fucking Wendy's smoked Gouda Chicken Sandwich commercial I may punch the next ginger I see.
As an alum, it's been...an adventure, to say the least...watching him kick. Glad he came up big. I knew UCF left too much time with State having 3 time outs. As mentioned above, I think Hackenberg will be a quality NFL QB, and by all rights should rewrite all of PSU's passing records by the time he leaves.
Nothing like opening the season by hoping that you lose by less than three touchdowns.
That's funny Greg.
UVA on the move. Their D has been excellent. Lots of pressure on Hundley. Only TD was a pick six when Lambert made a bad throw in the flat while being pressured.
Too early to tell for Lambert. But UVA has the same problem they've had for years: no downfield WR threats. Their offense has traditionally been smashmouth running behind a big OL, and short passes of one kind or another. Longer passes tend to be seam throws to TEs, not deep patterns to WRs. That makes the field very long, and requires long drives to get TDs, or even FGs. Who was the last UVA WR to do anything in the NFL? Herman Moore I think.
the OL will hopefully come together, they're usually a strength. And they've got a frosh they seem to like in Doni Dowling at WR. But typically WR is a weakness for the Hoos and has been as long as I've watched. Losing McGee sucked, he was as consistent a producer as we had last year.
that our offense has allowed more points than our defense. The other issue is that London's in-game adjustments typically suck so I would expect us to be outcoached in the 2nd half.
shit. Lambert throws another pick six. That's what happens when so much of your passing game is based on throws in the flat. Teams start sitting on the routes. That and the fact that it was a poor throw.
I don't know if I call it "guts." The platoon quarterback thing hasn't served us well these last few years. Maybe Jones is the answer, or maybe we're back to a QB carousel and a 4 win season.
throw by Johns to Jennings. My concern is that as great as the Virginia D has been, it's UCLA, and eventually they're going to get something done on O. Virginia also needs to stop slamming the ball into the line on first down for no gain. It hasn't worked all game.
How's ND looking heading into this year? I haven't paid much attn to the build up. I know Golson is back which is exciting... Could the Irish make some noise?
UVA offense is just so horrendously limited. Absolutely no downfield passing game. Dink and dunk only. The field at that point is half a mile long. Why can't they recruit any decent WRs?

Arguably the most difficult schedule in the country, so they likely will have a 9-3 type season, but I think this offense is going to be very very good. Defense will struggle at times but they have some young talent there. Next year really is the year they should be excellent.
Totally. But then the play calling most of the day was bad. Didn't even try anything deep, just a couple of deep in routes. And wasted a lot of first downs by slamming the ball into the line. Maybe that's why as you note, no decent WR wants to come to UVA.
Really bad loss. Three turnovers for TDs negate one of the best defensive performances by UVA I've seen in years. I guess they can take that away as a positive, as well as the emergence of QB Johns, but this was a very winnable game.
I get the limited enthusiasm for downfield passing the way the OL was holding up, but they sold out to stop the run in the second half and there was no attempt to exploit that.
Peppers will be ready for Notre Dame.Would not use NFL talent as a punt returner. They will need him in coverage against OSU,Michigan State and Wisconsisn peppers - ( New Window )
Glass half full: the defense was very good today and could improve to be the best in the conference. Not a fast defense, but smart and very physical. Johns was very good in relief and Lambert wasn't bad outside of the two pick - sixes. The OL wasn't exactly "good", but they were much more effective that I expected against an excellent UCLA DL. WRs lack game - breaking ability but they made some great catches out there, unlike the never ending drops of the past two seasons.
Glass half empty: Steve Fairchild is just an awful play-caller. I know the 3rd and 10 run late in the game was Johns blowing the play call but it wasn't much worse than the rest of the calls. Team is slow on both sides of the ball and Fairchild has no idea how to use the one burner he has on offense (Mizell). The killer turnovers brought back bad flashbacks of Marc Verica. Ultimately, moral victories aren't going to cut it. This team just continues to find ways to lose even when they play well.
Mike London is by all accounts a wonderful man, and the man certainly can recruit. How he's managed to put together another very solid class for next season despite the dismal failures on the field is amazing, but it can't continue if they don't start winning. I simply don't think he's a legit D - I head coach, and I don't have any confidence whatsoever in him or Fairchild to develop the offense. I don't know why Fairchild was hired in the first place with his mediocre track record. Playing musical quarterbacks has been their downfall in the past few years and today sure looks like they could be going down that road again.
OSU defender injures self celebrating a defensive stop
but hopefully one or both of them will make an impact as the season wears on. Dowling looked alright, maybe he or Levrone or Severin can emerge as a receiving threat. And maybe the OL will gel. But it's really going to come down to Johns or Lambert emerging as at least a solid QB.
can get a score early in the 3rd quarter I think they could run away with it. LSU can't throw, and it will be even more difficult if Wisconsin is protecting a big lead
if Rushing made those 2 errrs than I think McEvoy has had a good game. I think Caputo will play on Sunday. Trotter has surprised me and the OL is, well, a Badger OL.
if LSU gets their vaunted rushing game going. If they don't, then the Badgers are really for real. However I wouldn't be that quick to trash their passing game, unless they have to with no run fakes and the Badgers can drop back.
not a careless turnover. It was a natural reaction to try to brace your fall. Shit happens.
Ehhh, there was no contact to the body or arm and it just kind of slipped out of his arm on the way down. He shouldnt have been jumping/leaping like that. Shame because if he got by that guy, he had a lot of room.
The two areas of greatest concern: Replacing Jernigan in the middle and Shaw/Benjamin on the perimeter remain the two greatest areas of concern. It's also frustrating to watch Karlos Williams, with all of that physical talent, not play well. I would have liked to see more Pender.
FSU let them hang around but only once did I feel that the lead might be in jeopardy and the defense managed to hold. Citadel next week to work out the kinks before Clemson rolls into town. That will be fun.
they were backed up and it was 4th and 12, but you have to go for it and not punt. Even if you go for it and don't get it, you can still hold them to a field goal and get the ball back. And you're not stopping them this entire quarter running the ball. I know they cant throw but I think he basically threw in the towel

He's going to be an improvement though. Borges was so bleh last year.
TE out of Michigan - Devin Funchess.

Don't look now, but UVA is playing alright and I am a VT fan.
This is a pretty funny post

Now a fumble return for a TD. Following an INT returned for a TD.
UCLA via Virginia offense: 14.
Virginia: 3.
You need to make 1 more correction. Its all good though

Are you fucking serious? Lambert with a shitty decision and a worse throw.

Sorry, we were looking for #87 Devin Funchess
Yup and it's hardly talked about and I have to go to a bar or look for a feed to watch it :(
watch espn, espn
guess no cable?
28-17 and those were the first points that were the result of UCLA's offense.

I'm sure if the Giants pick Funchess he'll get injured. If some other team takes him he'll be All Pro his first season.
Yea he was blocked by the wr right into the lower leg/knee. But no info given during game on injuries

LSU does not. Same with FSU
I'm here. D looks great. Mcevoy spotty. Going to be a close game.
Ugh, thats definitely a fumble
Really screwed Oklahoma State there.

TD Okie St. Kick it deep or onside it here?
I didn't realize Wisconsin's QB was Tanner Mcevoy from Bergen Catholic in Northern NJ, who started his college career as a DB at South Carolina.

Injuries up the middle really impacted the outcome unfortunately for the Badgers
