Barring a catastrophic injury/injuries to our best players, if we miss the playoffs, it'll now be 5 years in the past 6 that we'll be watching playoff football without our Giants. And yes, I'm aware that the 1 year we did make it, we won it all & that's obviously a BFD & not something to sneer at. That said, this organization prides itself on being one of the premier franchises in the league. Not qualifying for the dance in 5 of 6 years is Lions-esque (our first opponent & thus a shot at them).
Just interested in opinions. I'm usually an optimist & think the extreme gloom & dome here is over the top, but I'm more pessimistic going into this season than any other that I can remember since the TC/Eli era started.
NO ONE has done better than us since 2007..I don't care what other records have been or near misses they've had, NO ONE has done better than us where it matters most..
Do I want to compete EVERY year? You bet, but I am very satisfied with what we've attained..
2008- 12-4, best record in NFC
2009- 8-8 (this was a bad year)
2010- 10-6, a 7 minute meltdown from maybe getting a bye in the playoffs
2011- SB Champs
2012- 9-7 (disappointing, but competitive)
2013- 7-9 (VERY bad year, worse than record indicates)
The Giants have been pretty consistent, they haven't been the Pats, but the Pats also haven't won any SB's in the same time period.
Watching this preseason, I know Coughlin isn't the issue and I would not making a coaching change regardless of how this season goes. This is clearly a talent issue and not a coaching issue. TC is still consistently looked at as a top 5 HC in the NFL, why in the world would we make a change? It is very likely the next guy will not be as good as TC.
I also have a pretty good feeling we will appreciate Gilbride a lot more for what he did here.
I hate being reminded of 2010 - I thought we could have won it all that year.
Thankfully, we made up for it the year after.
Just means it's not the be all, end all of job security. He wasn't making the playoffs with last year's roster. In fact, he won seven games with a 4-12 roster, to his credit. This year's roster looks only moderately improved.
Now if "big" changes means Reese or Ross, count me in.
IF he comes back (ie team does decently enough, he decides not to retire or something), I think things stay a bit stable.
Reasoning..
Fewell is his guy and the D most likely will do ok (assuming they are not playing 40 minutes/a game)
Macadoo will have just finished his first year, if the offense is moderately good, or even shows signs that it can work, I don't think they make a change and then have 3 different O's in 3 years.
If TC goes, and the Offense/Defense stink then both coordinators go and we are back to Square 1, and I can then see bigger roster changes as well..
I was going to post something similar to this. Yea, 5-6 except for that Fucking Superbowl thriller you negative fuck. See almost the same except 56 has a lot more class.
:)
I think they have realistic expectations that this is going to take time.

Nice to see it written out like this yet again. Instantly makes me feel better. And the 2009 year we started 5-0 and were dominating other teams. After pierce went out and our secondary was completely exposed - it got ugly. But Eli and the offense were very good that year.
In any case I expect improvement in the Oline. Better TE. Can't do it all in 1 year. We are rebuilding so you sometimes have to sacrifice today for the future.
Now, if Coughlin decides to retire, we could see a lot of coaching changes and probably for the worse, not better.
