“I think we’re still trying to get it exactly the way we want it,” Manning said on Friday. “It’s a work in progress. It’s not the final product right now. There’s definitely room for improvement. And that’ll be a season-long situation — which is, I think, normal. That’s not a bad thing.”
A barely mediocre team that is installing a new offense with quite a few new players shouldn't be expected to be firing on all cylinders come week 1. People need to tone down whatever expectations still remain. Finishing the first half at 4-4 should be the goal
Wonder what Gilbride would have done with Jennings, Williams, Â
Schwartz, Richburg, Jetty, Walton, Beckham and Washington instead of -0- talent in the OL, WR and RB last year. We'll never know but I'd put my money on the offense being in better shape shape for the opening game against the Lions.
We had a "broken offense" last year, according to John Mara. No change demonstrated so far this year- "season long situation" IMO are Eli's code words for "broken offense".
“Last year we were so poor in the run game that it ruined our balance and as a result we turned the ball over at a ridiculous rate. So that’s not going to happen. And we wanted to make sure of that throughout the course of the preseason.
“Perhaps there should’ve been a time where we did nothing but throw the ball, but that really was not something that I wanted to entertain during this preseason.”
Wouldn't have made any difference to Gilbride.... Â
won 2 SBs? Toomer, Manningham, Steve Smith, Jake Ballard, Kevin Boss, etc. had no trouble being "on the same page" with Eli but Randle and JJ can't?
Mara said the "offense" is broken". OK, but who broke it? Gilbride, the architect of the SB offense, or Jerry Reese, who is responsible for providing the players that Gilbride played.
I wish one of the beat writers asked Mara what person was responsible for the "broken offense".
