Media really has an "IN", for information Read this

Serby NYP: Eli Manning is only fooling himself with his confidence

Schwartz NYP: Unfazed Eli Manning says Giants’ new offense a ‘work in progress’

RV NYDN: NY Giants QB Eli Manning admits it could take all season to master Ben McAdoo’s West Coast offense

Now that's a collective " Absolutely Maybe" on the other hand it could be a
" positive perhaps"

In all aspects I get the impression they don't know what the hell they're talking about but they've gotta write.

Much like the three blind men describing an elephant after each touching a separate and different part of the elephant's body.

Yep can really rely on the media for "Inside Info"

Friday was not a good day for the media.

I feel that they took Eli's comments and spun them in a way that gave off a different feel than they know what was truly intended. Bad journalism.
agreed Eric..

It's why I sometimes feel it is better simply to post the transcripts.
I agree

I agree 1000%. Eli made it explicitly clear he feels they are ready for week 1 and he is clearly confident, despite what we have seen in exhebition games. Yet they deliberately spin comments like work in progress as saying something they know full well he wasn't, as in, not ready, has a ways to go. That's not what he meant and he told them this directly.

LOVE reading the transcripts and then seeing the stories. Funny to see how reporters can take the same raw data and have different conclusions. Also interesting to see how often they miss the little subtleties of the answers and go for the cliche story rather than following up.

Is almost dead in today's world when you think of how it was originally intended. Journalism to me is about providing facts and bringing the truth to light. Today there is no accountability for publishing wrong information. It is all about who got it out first with accuracy not really relevant. Also, there is too much opinion nowadays. Just give me the facts. I don't need some self proclaimed "expert" giving me their point of view.
What are they really telling us?
Bobby Epps : 8/30/2014 12:20 pm : link
Serby: "Eli fooling himself" means "Folks, I'm telling you that Eli is an idiot".

Schwartz: "Unfazed Eli" means "Folks, I'm telling you that Eli doesn't know what's going on and is out of touch with reality".

RV: "Might take all season long" means "Folks, all my articles are written to stir things up and here's the latest article to do so".

That's why I never read their articles plus Graziano and Gary Myers (Tiki Barber craps on ....).

There are many BBI posters who provide a better insight into the Giants than those writers and although I occasionally disagree with Pat Traina, Jordan Ranaan, Connor Orr and Conor Hughes, they are light years ahead of Schwartz, Serby and RV in providing useful info.

Of course, the HOF beat wrier is Garofalo- too bad he no longer covers the Giants exclusively.

Just how often does this happen? With a knowledgeable fan as yourself. Dorgon and guys who have real knowledge of the game, it's no problem.

However the fan such as myself assumes Media is NOT self serving and feels whatever media put out must have some merit. If this is extrapolated over a period of time, The young lady, " Miss Information" becomes a regular and is assumed to have an " affair" with ALL the journalists.

The three quoted are not high school kids trying out for the school newspaper.

Geez, that pisses me off and it's only my second coffee!
As for that idiot Serby
UberAlias : 8/30/2014 12:22 pm : link
Why bother to interview a guy if you are going to come out and say he doesn't know what he is talking about? Why not save us the time and just present his own worthless opinion?
I posted this quote from TC on nate's thread from RV's column..
JCin332 : 8/30/2014 12:23 pm : link
Quote:
“Last year we were so poor in the run game that it ruined our balance and as a result we turned the ball over at a ridiculous rate. So that’s not going to happen. And we wanted to make sure of that throughout the course of the preseason.
“Perhaps there should’ve been a time where we did nothing but throw the ball, but that really was not something that I wanted to entertain during this preseason.”

I thought it was pretty telling..
It's good to read the comments

of the posters. Thanks for the way you gentlemen view the articles and compare to the transcripts. Unfortunately I don't do that.

It's something I've got to add to my "quest " for Giant info.
To be honest
UberAlias : 8/30/2014 12:26 pm : link
With the ushering in of new media such as twitter where it is instantaneous and interactive, I only expect more of this. Quality journalism is basically dead and replaced with an environment where any hack with an opinion can be heard, and the greater the shock statement the bigger the demand. It's pathetic.
This probably won't make you feel any better, but
Marty in Albany : 8/30/2014 12:33 pm : link
having stood on the sidelines next to the above beat writers, I can tell you that the sports pages in general, and Giants football reporting in particular, is a paragon of accuracy and integrity compared to the reporting of national, international, and entertainment news.

Not sure what you mean.

There are a lot of bloggers who have no accountability for anything they say, that's a new-ish thing. But there's a lot more accountability for reporters at major newspapers, because if they get something wrong, commenters of all kinds across the Internet will let them know about it.

In the good old days, editors only heard about mistakes by letter or phone call and it was their choice whether to write a correction, publish a complaint, or just let it go. Nowadays, anybody can call out an error in the comments, or on social media, or on BBI.

To me that says, "I am less worried about the passing game. We needed to work on the running game and cannot do that in practice".

It makes sense in that you can do a lot of work on the passing game in practice than you can with the run game. The run game really does require live bullets.

To be honest the reports on the passing game in practice haven't been great, bit I will reserve ultimate judgement on the offense for the first month.

People forget that SPAGS "awesome" defense gave up over 80 points in its first two games.
The Post and Daily News covering things this way has been going on

longer than most BBIers have been alive.

The era of Twitter and bloggers has nothing to do with Serby being Serby or Ralph doing what his bosses pay him to.

Exactly. Priority #1 for writers from the Post and the Daily News is to help sell newspapers. Which means taking whatever is out there and sensationalizing it to invent a big story.
Is Serby still writing
YorkAveGiant : 8/30/2014 4:26 pm : link
Weekly columns about how Coughlin should be fired and Charlie Weiss should be brought in??

Or has he given up that crusade??

Serby=ass clown

Giving their opinions like us except they get
paid for it.. one thing about Eli he reallly looks
lost in interviews...he looks unhappy...
don't know if he buys in...he said you need a whole
game to get in sync. ..we'll find out soon...
My take from Eli's comments
eclipz928 : 8/30/2014 8:32 pm : link
is that he's cautiously optimistic. Probably doing as much as he can to curb people's expectations of him this season - that "70% completion percentage" thing is going to haunt him all year long with the media.
