Post "useful cuts" here

Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:09 pm
Place to post and comment on other teams cuts

Example
Bears released G/T Eben Britton.
Britton battled a hamstring injury throughout camp. A 2009 second-round pick of the Jaguars, Britton played 239 snaps as a backup guard and tackle for the Bears last season. He is not a starting caliber player, but he is a quality backup. He should find a home.
Garrett Gilkey
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:11 pm : link
Browns waived G/T Garrett Gilkey.
Gilkey was a seventh-round pick out of Chadron State last year. He'd primarily been playing guard this summer. Gilkey had a solid preseason finale, but it wasn't enough to save his job as a versatile backup. He has good size at 6'6/315.
Chris Scott
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:13 pm : link
Panthers released G Chris Scott.
Scott made eight starts at guard for the Panthers last season. He once again had trouble with his conditioning in the spring and got beat out for a backup job behind projected starters LG Amini Silatolu and RG Trai Turner.
Max Bullough
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:16 pm : link
Texans waived or released LB Max Bullough, CB Marcus Williams, DE Julius Warmsley, DE Keith Browner, OLB Chris McAllister, LB Chris Young, WR Uzoma Nwachukwu, WR Lacoltan Bester, G Alex Kupper, C James Ferentz, TE Anthony Denham, G Bronson Irwin and T Matt Feiler.
Bullough is the name from this list. An undrafted rookie, Bullough was a third-team All-American his senior year at Michigan State. The Texans would likely hope to stash him on the practice squad.
Lots of semi-quality RBs on the market
Anakim : 8/30/2014 3:18 pm : link
Also, lots of highly picked players (4th round or earlier) from as early as last year

Frankly, I'm going straight for the TEs that shake loose and so far, no one has cut my eye except maybe Justin Jones and Ryan Otten.
TE Egnew
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:18 pm : link
Lions release TE Michael Egnew.
Egnew lasted five days on the Lions' roster. Egnew has been a massive disappointment since the Dolphins made him the No. 78 overall pick of the 2012 draft. Despite the struggles, his pedigree will likely land him another chance.
RB Richardson
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:20 pm : link
Jets released RB Daryl Richardson.
Richardson opened 2013 as the starter in St. Louis, but cannot survive final cuts this time around. Only 24, Richardson should get some looks from running back needy teams. Richardson's release means Bilal Powell has made the roster.
Shane skov
hd9009 : 8/30/2014 3:22 pm : link
A year on practice squad to get healthy he could end up a quality LB
Better than Hillis?
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:23 pm : link
Browns released RB Chris Ogbonnaya.
The Browns didn't want to expose five-star talent Isaiah Crowell to waivers, so they make a surprising cut of a versatile player who can lead block, catch and run in a pinch. Now they only have raw rookies Terrance West and Crowell behind starter Ben Tate. It's good news for the projected catch total of Tate and West, as Ogbonnaya was thought to be headed for a third-down role. Dion Lewis was also cut Saturday.
Vincent Brown - Name w/o substance?
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:26 pm : link
Chargers waived/injured WR Vincent Brown.
Brown hasn't practiced since July 25, but is reportedly near full health. The Union-Tribune San Diego reports Brown "won't be on the Chargers' 53-man roster," so it sounds like he could end up getting released with an injury settlement. The No. 82 overall pick of the 2011 draft, Brown was an exciting prospect after catching 19 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie, but was never the same after missing all of 2012 with a broken ankle. Brown moved like a tight end last season as he limped to a 41/472/1 line across 16 games.
TE Tony Moeaki
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:28 pm : link
Bills placed TE Tony Moeaki on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.
They also placed CBs Mario Butler and Bobby Felder on I.R. Injury prone since his days at the University of Iowa, Moeaki got hurt early in training camp and missed the entire preseason. He'll probably get an injury settlement.
"The Outlaw" Henry Josey
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:29 pm : link
Looked very good in preseason.

Eagles waived RB Henry Josey.
The Eagles may want to stash Josey on their practice squad, but he is a waiver claim candidate after averaging 6.6 YPC in the preseason and running 4.43 at the Combine. Josey is a dynamic if undersized change-of-pace prospect.
Colts cut TE Erik Swoope
Anakim : 8/30/2014 3:31 pm : link
Former Miami basketball player...remind you of anyone?

But no, Swoope never played a down of football, unlike Graham
Major Wright, SS,
bob in tx : 8/30/2014 3:32 pm : link
Former 3rd round pick of Bears, was cut by Bucs.
I would really like to get Josey
sjnyfan : 8/30/2014 3:38 pm : link
I was a little surprised the Eagles cut him because I think he can be a playmaker in the league. If he gets to the Giants I'd pick him up in a heartbeat.
TE David Paulson was cut by the Steelers
Anakim : 8/30/2014 3:44 pm : link
Might be an interesting pickup as he has experience since being drafted in the 7th round in 2012 and is only 25.
Cuts of Note
Reale01 : 8/30/2014 3:45 pm : link
Nate Burleson, Steven (?)Hill (WR Jets), Angerer LB ATL, Royster, Guy Whimper (OT former Giant)

Have to run for now will check back tonight.

T Guy Wimper (former Giant) has been cut.

honestly
kepler20 : 8/30/2014 4:09 pm : link
We should bring Sam in.

This team has an anemic pass rush that was non existent in preseason.
Sam from a football perspective makes sense
dpinzow : 8/30/2014 4:22 pm : link
He'd be the 4th best DE on this team behind JPP, Kiwi and Damontre
Sam doesn't play special teams.

He made plays and was always around the ball. He will make it through waivers probably.
Egnew and Richardson suck...
Mike in St. Louis : 8/30/2014 4:26 pm : link
Egnew is just a name from his Mizzou days...can't block and can't play in a pro offense...

Richardson had one decent year with the Rams because Jackson got hurt and there was no one else...same thing looks to be happening with Stacy and the Rams...one year and done...

I like Josey but he is a prime PS not active roster candidate as he needs at least a year of work...

Immaterial. His value is as a situational pass rusher who plays 2nd and 3rd and long. Who cares if he can't ccontribute on specials. We need his pass rushing more than his lack of versatility.

A short, slow, unathletic DE who flashed against soon-to-be beer-truck drivers has very little value.

OK, Kepler, Where's the Empirical Analysis
clatterbuck : 8/30/2014 4:57 pm : link
of how Sam is a better situational pass rusher that Wynn? Did you scout them in college? Watch every pre-season snap? Are you privy to practice reports? You and others make these sweeping statements that are based on nothing. It's Ok to have an opinion -- that's why we're here -- but it's annoying when opinions are stated so unequivocally.

Sam is not a good NFL player
Sy'56 : 8/30/2014 5:12 pm : link
No way should NYG even consider him at this point. Wynn has WAY more upside.
My favorite name out there
Sy'56 : 8/30/2014 5:14 pm : link
is rookie CB Shaquille Richardson (cut by PIT), based purely on my draft grade for him. NYG doesn't have a hole at CB though.
Here are two.....

Stephen Hill WR formerly of the Jets and Michael Sam.
Eric Winston RT

NFLPA president need I say more
Yes.
Klaatu : 8/30/2014 5:19 pm : link
Ask yourself why he couldn't stick on his last three teams.
Eric Winston?
Sy'56 : 8/30/2014 5:21 pm : link
No. He can't play LT and he was pushed around this preseason.
Stephen Hill?
Sy'56 : 8/30/2014 5:23 pm : link
No. He isn't a football player. He has speed and thats where his positive traits end. Can't catch consistently. Poor route runner. Does nothing after the catch. Doesn't block. Doesn't impact special teams.

There will be 50+ WRs on the market that are better than Hill.

Hill may never have been anything special, but if ever there was a poster child for "nurture" over nature it is Hill. Circus of a locker room, awful QB play, zero veteran leadership on the offensive side of the ball. He hasn't helped his own cause, he has been unable to learn routes, but it's not a coincidence that most of what they touch turns to shit.
Although the Giants have 10 DL and Quarles and/or Stanton
Bobby Epps : 8/30/2014 5:47 pm : link
may go on the PS, another candidate for the PS might be Kona Schwenke, a very fast DE/DT.

might be useful on the PS.

Product of the Baylor system. He isn't an NFL back. Looked pretty bad this preseason, rarely breaks a tackle and doesn't have the vision between tackles.

Here's the AZ cuts
Bill in UT : 8/30/2014 7:10 pm : link
s Glenn Carson dressed in the cramped Qualcomm Stadium locker room Thursday night, the undrafted rookie free agent linebacker considered his fate.
He had played well as the preseason progressed coach Bruce Arians praised him Friday and he had a team-high 10 tackles against the Chargers but that was not close to a guarantee.
I did everything I could and at the end of the day I gave it my best, Carson said. Now its in the coaches hands. You can only control what you can control.
The Penn State product, at least for now, made the roster. The Cardinals got down to their 53-man limit Saturday with 20 cuts, a release with injury settlement for tackle Nate Potter (shoulder) and a move to injured reserve for safety Eddie Whitley (broken foot). Carson was one of 10 linebackers that remain.
The other 20 players released:
RB Zach Bauman
LB Marcus Benard
G Philip Blake
LB Jonathan Brown
WR Dan Buckner
C John Estes
DT Bruce Gaston
WR Brittan Golden
TE Andre Hardy
CB Jimmy Legree
CB Bryan McCann
T Kelvin Palmer

Fan, surprised to see Bullough.

They've never said specifically what the suspension was. Rumor around campus - say my sources - was a DUI. But, that's rumor.

Still generally considered an excellent leader, and very good communicator. Saw a thing on BTN last night, a fellow LB said Max would text him at like 10 at night from the film room saying what they (Max and the teammate) needed to work on. Question is probably more size/speed than character.

and Schwartz is going on the temporary IR, they could make it happen without giving up any of the three big RBs. Wilson woulda made this team if he wasn't a health risk. A real fast guy/playmaker type as a change of pace to the battering rams isn't the worst idea in the world.
If we want an excellent ST gunner
dpinzow : 8/31/2014 1:45 am : link
Then Osgood is an interesting player
Josey
sjnyfan : 8/31/2014 6:20 am : link
Led the preseason with 6.6 ypc and was second in rushing at 225 yards. He was the third fastest RB at the combine (4.43) and has explosive cutting ability. He can also catch the ball out the backfield which he did well in college and this preseason against the Pats where he had a 27 yd TD catch off of a screen.

His blocking would need work but there are creative ways to use a player with his ability. I also like his work ethic. He's doing this after recovering from a horrific knee injury in 2011. Some may have given up after what he went through but he persevered. Good story if you get the chance.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Schwartz is on Temp IR yet. If he does go on then Josey could be the 4th RB without anyone getting cut and once on he'll stay. He would immediately become the fastest RB on the team and he's a playmaker.

Part of the reason there is more passing, and short passing is the poor nature of OL pass blocking

Who does he replace on this roster? He isn't better than any of the NYG RBs.

When did Hillis become Jim Brown?

its not that chris, they fill totally different roles. Looks like josey is a scat /3rd down back and hillis is a plodder and someone you can grind to move the chains.
keep your ears on this name Adam Snyder

one of the 49er cuts - Snyder plays all 5 positions on the OLine and was a Money cut - he's an experienced veteran

That's a whopping upgrade over Dallas Reynolds, and maybe others. The question is whether he has crossed the David Diehl event horizon, but that's less of a concern if he's still available Week 2, when he doesn't get a full-season guarantee.
