Robinson and Donnell

Giant_Spirit : 8/30/2014 3:39 pm
Ok... so i caught the cut u for both players this preseason. I might be in the very very minority, but I think their potential still out weights their weaknesses. I would still not give up on them. To me it all comes down to experience in playing this position.
Um.....OK
Gman11 : 8/30/2014 3:48 pm : link
I guess.
Robinson has had plenty of opportunities
robbieballs2003 : 8/30/2014 3:51 pm : link
and hasn't done enough with them. Donnell showed more promise. I said I would only keep two TEs and they were Fells and Donnell. I would look around the league for a third.
too late to

Cut TE now..sign ps guys and replace when learn
playbook
Like the Giants have much choice

Robinson never makes a play
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/30/2014 8:04 pm : link
Donnell occasionally does.
Donnell looked good diving after the ball
mattlawson : 8/30/2014 8:05 pm : link
He's got a nose for the ball for sure. He occasionally misses his man blocking but on this OL .... Who don't?
So what happens if neither
LauderdaleMatty : 8/30/2014 8:15 pm : link
Ever realizes that potential? It's nice to have one guy with no actual production but two? What happens if fella gets hurt?
It seems to me
Spock : 8/30/2014 8:16 pm : link
Donnell is enough for guys with potential. Davis gave us more experience than Robinson and is more reliable I would say.
I've pretty much given up on Robinson entirely.
arcarsenal : 8/30/2014 8:46 pm : link
I've got a glimmer of hope left for Donnell.. but not much. We've got to have the worst group of TE's in the entire league. If we don't, I'd be surprised.
I wish I knew what Robinson has shown
CT Charlie : 8/30/2014 10:10 pm : link
the coaching staff. At least Donnell seems to have good hands.
Disagree, Robinson ...
Manny in CA : 8/30/2014 11:31 pm : link
Has better speed and hands - that's what the coaching staff has always seen.

Robinson's problem is between his ears. In a way he's like Martellus Bennett was at Dallas. You knew he had to be good, but only flashed a few times (because he was stuck behind an ALL PRO). Most of the time, when he got a chance, he looked very ordinary.
Why Robinson is On This Team Still
Aloha Alan : 8/30/2014 11:46 pm : link
Is beyond my thinking. The Giants kept Travis Beckum too long and are doing the same wasting a valuable spot on this team with him.

So what if he's fast? Can't block, can't think, and catches on occasion.

Adrien Robinson = Travis Beckum. Not worth a damn. Big disappointment by not being one of the cuts today.
.....

I don't think we can judge until we see these guys in a full game. Maybe we'll be surprised.
Let's See: For 1.5 decades, the Giants went through TE after TE
baadbill : 8/31/2014 12:16 pm : link
but no matter who they plugged in, the TE position was solid. Great blocking. Solid receiving.

Then Pope is released. Same revolving door at TE but with one major difference. They all suck. Coincidence? Possible but doubtful.
What did Pope ever do for Darcy Johnson?
Klaatu : 8/31/2014 12:26 pm : link
Or Michael Matthews and Christian Hopkins? The guy who went to the Bills - name escapes me - became a decent player after he left the Giants.

Travis Beckum actually gave his some really big plays during the 2011 stretch run, so he wasn't completely useless. Just took him that long to be a) healthy and b) find his role in the O.
Robinson is on the team
HomerJones45 : 8/31/2014 1:42 pm : link
because he is a ++ athlete. The guy is big, strong and fast. Everyone saw the fumble the other night, but if you looked beyond that, you saw him down the field, a mismatch for the guy covering him and two players needed to take him down.

I know, I know, he fumbled, but as we all know, that is teachable. The speed at that size is not.
I wouldnt mind
spike : 8/31/2014 4:21 pm : link
getting Beckum back at this point
This was Robinson's first real camp
SGMen : 8/31/2014 4:49 pm : link
He was hurt last year and missed all the off-season OTA's his rookie year. He was raw coming out of college.

I think the Giants see him learning as the season progresses and with his speed and size he could become a factor. He could also be mediocre but I am one that loves a guy that can haul ass down the seem like he can.

If he stays healthy, trust me, he'll be a matchup problem for some teams and the Giants will exploit.

Donnell has upside as well. My prayer is that by mid-season TE is a strength rather than the perceived weakness that it is right now.
