he's been practicing. Maybe it's best this way. I'd hate to see Beckham plagued with hamstring problems for the entire season.
Damn. We NEED Beckham on the field and taking over the X position. Anyone care to guess who plays the X wide receiver in the first game?
These are our current WRs:
Rueben Randle
Odell Beckham
Corey Washington
Victor Cruz
Jerrel Jernigan
Preston Parker
---------------------------------------
Randle will play Z, you have Cruz in the slot. With Beckham out, these are the choices for that X receiver:
Corey Washington
Jerrel Jernigan
Preston Parker <-- most likely
TC hates rookies. They make mistakes. They play scared. Or they are over confident - which is worse.
TC REALLY hates rookies that have not completed a single practice the entire preseason. ODB reported to the OTA's hurt. No way the injury occurred then. More likely he injured himself in his own workouts. ODB is so far in Tom's doghouse the ASPCA probably could not help him.
Giants used a super premium 12 pick on him because their need for a number one X WR was so great they rolled the dice on a smallish guy that was rising in the draft hoping he could truly inject instant life into their offense. In that respect the Giants have crapped out. Maybe he will be a force next year but unless he requires NO learning curve at all hard to believe he will contribute much this season at this point.
DW had two camps to become the number one RB and failed. Who knows what ODB can do without ever seeing him play. His injury and his unknown timetable to return could be a season killer for the Gmen.
As far as we know could be ready for game #1, no? Could be out until 2015.
Coughlin did say something about him being our starting PR iirc, so maybe sooner rather than later, but rookie WRs rarely contribute much in this league...one's that missed the entire pre-season especially challenged I would think.
...might be a reverse version of Tavon Austin's rookie year. Austin missed the last three games with an ankle injury, as the Rams chose to play it safe with him. In the thirteen games he played, Austin posted fairly modest numbers on offense and specials, but made five or six of the electric plays that were his trademark in college. In other words, he flashed enough to vindicate his draft position, and contributed to a couple of wins. His best ball remains ahead of him, and the Rams are still figuring out the best ways to use him. If Beckham gets to same point in Year One, that will be pretty good, considering the time he has lost to the hamstring. It's less than the Giants hoped for when they drafted him, but the injury has diminished all reasonable expectations.
If the Giants eventually waive Preston Parker without adding another punt returner, we'll know the team finally has confidence in Beckham's hamstring.

The Giants will likely open their season with their first-round draft pick where he has been throughout the preseason: on the sideline.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin indicated on Saturday that rookie receiver Odell Beckham, who is nursing a hamstring injury, isn’t expected to play in the Monday night opener against the Lions. Coughlin said one of the reasons wide receiver Preston Parker made the 53-man roster is that he’ll be playing some of the roles the Giants had hoped Beckham could play.
“Preston also has the punt return/kick return ability,” Coughlin said, via Jordan Raanan of NJ.com. “Right now that’s very critical for us, because Odell Beckham was going to be the punt returner.”
The Giants still have high hopes for Beckham as a big-play threat in their offense, some day. But that day will not be next Monday night in Detroit.

We are in deep poo-poo until ODB comes back.
THIS.
The Giants will struggle until and unless Beckham plays regularly. The scary thing to me is that I recently read somewhere that Beckham struggled with a hammy most of last year and that his present issue may not be "new" but a continuation of last year's problem.
ben mcadoo knows a thing or 2 about the detroit lions after spending a decade in the nfc north.
if nothing else, we've achieved the desired effect of the lions have no stinking clue what we will do offensively. u can't hang ur hat on any of the tape.
hoping mcadoo will unleash beckham full throttle with the lions scrambling to catch up.
....And We Took A Smurf With A Chronic Hammy At #12 Overall?
Chronic ? Did he have hammy issues at LSU?
That was probably me - I posted that I recalled reading something about a hammy in college last year - but I just searched and while i didn't read everything, I did find this quote:
"Beckham played in 40 games in three seasons at LSU and had 143 receptions for 2,340 yards, a 16.4-yard average, and 12 touchdowns. He also averaged 24.9 yards on 42 kickoffs returns and 9.0 yards on 62 punt returns, scoring twice.
He had never missed game action due to an injury."
So, I want to quell any rumor that I may have mistakenly made (from an old brain that obviously doesn't have a great memory any longer!) Link - ( New Window )
I think by week 3 Beckham goes on IR. His injury appears to be Â
yea he practicing
Pretty soon he'll be able to actually practice then he can sit on the bench. These things come in stages.

We cant even get an innocuous question such as
"is there a timetable for ODB to practice before game 1?"
There's a real reason why we know nothing about ODB's progress.

Starting PR? How'd he win that job anyway?

Give it a rest, you can't predict injuries.
