So who is inactive for game 1

Phil S : 8/31/2014 3:49 am
We need to see if there are any roster changes to know enough to speculate but this will be one of the harder to ones to guess.

1) Beckham-I don't see him ready to play as his mysterious injury keeps him out of practice.
2) Berhe, especially if Demps is needed to return kicks.
3) One of the five tackles although I don't know if it is Bromley, Patterson or Kuhn. Conceivably two of them could sit.
4& 5& 6) O line2 Schwartz and Brown or Brewer and Reynolds.
7) Linebacker Herzlich hss been an underachiever but he is a special teams player. Paysinger probably not. Kennard is a rookie but he is also a spark for the defense. Of course the issue is easily solved is Beason is not ready to play.
8) Tight end-Robinson has the most experience being inactive.
injuries dictate the first few

Beckham, Brown, Schwartz, perhaps Brewer as well aren't ready for action. On top of that go for those lowest on the depth chart - Robinson, Kuhn, Wynn.
Assuming no further roster changes or injuries...

... The easy ones are Wynn, Berhe and Schwartz.

To those three you can quickly add:
- Bromley or Kuhn, depending on Kuhn's availability.
- Beckham or Washington, depending on Beckham's availability. (Parker dresses for now, even if Beckham is the punt returner, because he backs up multiple positions.).
- Another offensive lineman, based on the health of Mosley and Brown. If they are both OK, it comes down to Brewer vs Reynolds. If Richburg starts at guard, Reynolds dresses to back up Walton; if Richburg doesn't start, he backs up Walton, leaving Reynolds without a shirt, and possibly without a job.

That's six. The last two inactives come from:
- TE (Robinson) or another WR (Washington sits even if Beckham can't go.) I think McAdoo would like to dress eight targets, but there might only be room for seven. With seven, an injury makes certain pages of the playbook problematic. On the other hand, raw players like Robinson and Washington might make those pages problematic anyway.
- The winner of Bromley vs. Kuhn, because three DTs might be sufficient on a fast track against Detroit. (There will be a lot of snaps with one DT, or none.)
- LB: Beason or Herzlich might need another week. If they can both go, Kennard might be the odd man out unless he has a defined role on specials.
- Another offensive lineman, though I think they will dress eight because of all the uncertainty about the ability of guys like Beatty, Walton, and all the guards to get through a complete NFL game.
Unless he's hurt(unbeknownst to me),

I don't see Bromley being inactive. I see him rotating in..Austin wasn't ready at all when he was a rookie, Hankins got his snaps, LinJo got his snaps as well and Cofield I believe started from the get-go..

Am I misremembering?
By the way, as bad as Brown and Beatty have looked at LT...
Big Blue Blogger : 8/31/2014 7:37 am : link
... it's important that at least one of them is healthy enough to play. Otherwise, the contingency plans for an injury to Will Beatty get pretty Byzantine.
Joseph and Hankins didn't play until early October.

Cofield was a great find, but also the product of desperate circumstances in 2006. The Giants had nobody to play the 1 technique DT.

is the third option after Zelmo & Brown. All 3 TEs must dress as each constitute .33 of an NFL player. That is what Coach meant recently. In any event we're down to Larry, Curly & Moe. Shemp & Joe were let go.

Are scary...Beatty will never last 16th.
BREWER needs to be upgraded...
They need to bring in a couple guys now

By the numbers
BillT : 8/31/2014 8:07 am : link
2 QB, 4 RB, 5 WR, 3 TE, 7OL for 21 offensive players

8 DL, 5 LB, 8 DB for 21 defensive players

3 ST for 45 total.

Washington (Jernigan?) at WR, Schwartz, Reynolds, Brown (Brewer?) at OL, Wynn, Bromley (Kuhn?) at DL, Herzlich or maybe Kennard (given Herzlich's prowess on ST) at LB, McBride or Berhe at DB.
Historically, one or two roster changes have been a virtual certainty

between now and game 1.

Retro. I'm sure that Larry, Moe and Curly would resent the comparison. They made people laugh, not cry.

may not peek his head out of the trainers room for weeks at this rate...
46 players are active now
CGiants07 : 8/31/2014 11:32 am : link
My guess for 7 inactives:schwartz, brown or brewer, beckham or washington, wynn, bromley, kuhn, berhe
cgiants07: thanks for the correction.

Quite right: 46 active, no more emergency QB BS.

I think the extra shirt goes to an eighth offensive lineman, because the only OL on the roster who is reasonably certain to make it through four quarters at the NFL level is Pugh. Richburg has never done it; Schwartz is out; Beatty and Walton are coming back from major injuries; Jerry, Mosley and Brewer are dinged; Reynolds (who's probably not long for this team) spent most of the last two years either on his couch or on the sidelines.

To say 2008 was a long time ago would be quite an understatement.
