So who are the three starting WR's week 1?

Josh in the City : 8/31/2014 12:54 pm
Being that Beckham is hurt (and will probably take a few weeks to get up to speed once healthy) who starts on the outside with Randle in three WR sets? Jernigan seems like he's more comfortable and more effective in the slot which is also Cruz's best position. That leaves Corey Washington and Preston Parker. I believe Parker made the final 53 more due to his KR/PR abilities while Beckham is hurt. So does that leave us with Corey Washington on the outside?

I'm assuming Cruz and Jenigan will actually play the most (along with Randle) and will both play more outside WR than they'd expect. But assuming we run more 3 & 4 WR sets in this new offensive scheme, I think we're going to see a good dose of Corey Washington early in the season.
Jernigan, primarily

Parker will likely get a look as he'll be active to return punts, they'll give him a shot to contribute at WR.

Washington will probably be inactive. He's shown some downfield ability, but his route running needs a ton of work and he's not showing a great deal of YAC ability, thus far. Fans tend to overrate him based on the TDs, he's a project.

as last year unfortunately. Cruz, Randle, and JJ. Cruz will be doubled. Everybody knows Eli and Randle are frequently not on the same page, and that as a consequence Eli doesn't trust him or look for him much. JJ doesn't scare anyone either. Couple that with no TE threat, a porous OL, and a statute for a QB, and my guess is teams stack the box on most plays to pressure Eli, and stop any semblance of a running game. I just don't think it's going to be that hard to game plan for the Giants O.

Which is why I'm hoping to see a ton of 4 WR sets. I think we will.
FWIW, most of Parker's success in TB came in the slot.

Until Beckham is ready, Cruz probably yields the slot to Jernigan when the Giants use three wideouts. Putting Parker outside keeps VC in him comfort zone, but doesn't strengthen the offense overall.
I think Parker could get more reps than expected

JJ has had some success but mostly in the slot. Parker is probably better on the outside of the 3 WR sets. This weeks practice could determine a lot. Well see if they think so as well.
Yea I agree

that teams will prob stack the box against us until our WR's prove they could win one on one. That's why I'd rather spread the field and give Eli more of an opportunity to get the ball out quickly. I simply don't trust our oline (with or without RB/TE help) so the more quick hit options for Eli, the better.
Danny Kanell: unless Jernigan, Randle and Parker win quickly...

... And consistently, spreading the defense with four wideouts doesn't really preclude an opponent doubling Cruz.

This offense is predicated on WR's winning early. If we can't have at least 1 win early, we're fucked anyway. Randle really needs to figure it out. He may be our most important player that needs to improve on offense.
Its funny how things change

This time last year going into the 2013-14 season you could argue that the Giants had one of the best trio of WR's with Cruz,Nicks and Randle. This year it could be one of least inspiring trio of Cruz, Randle and Jernigan. Maybe is will change slightly if and when Beckham gets on the field. Cruz is the only dependable receiver and the rest are potential (Beckham, Washington), frustration (Randle, Jernigan) and journeyman (Parker)
we haven't played one game yet...

it seems everyone is pessimistic. They had a lousy draft...but only one draft choice got cut. ? Eli is done, the Oline sucks, but the G men haven't played a game yet. I'm contented to just wait and see how the O line plays against the Lions' defense. :)
