NFT: Battered Bastards Of Baseball

Montreal Man : 8/31/2014 1:56 pm
Some of you guys may know about this, but even if you do, it's a great documentary. You can get it on Netflix.

About the farm club that left Portland because of a lack of interest and a bad team. Bing Russell, a well known actor (the Sheriff on Bonanza, among many other roles) was a fanatic about baseball and just loved the game. Anyway, he bought the Portland franchise for about 500 dollars and made the Mavericks an independent team. He AUDITIONED players and they came from all over the country for the love of the game. They sold out all five seasons and won their divisions, beating triple A farm clubs. And when they finally had a championship game with the farm club at their level, the major league teams put in ringers from clubs above them. Anyway, there's lots more. Watch it, you'll love it.I
Oh, forgot to mention

Bing Russell is Kurt Russell's father. Kurt does a lot of the interviews, along with his mother and some of the players, an extremely colorful bunch of guys.
It's a fun documentary

Supposedly Justin Lin has acquired the rights to make it in into a feature film, which would be great, especially if Kurt gets to play his dad.
Bing got justice

That's what I thought. He at least should have put the zero AFTER the 6 and not between the 2 and the 6.

Still, it's a great watch.
Kurt Russell also played for the team

Sorry ... but I missed the thread you put up or I wouldn't have done a German here.

But, another thread will only expose more people to the documentary and that's good.

Take care.......
