Becton, 6-5, 323 pounds, originally signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech on May 13, 2013. He spent most of his rookie season on the San Diego practice squad, although he was on the 53-man roster for six weeks last year and appeared in one game (at Oakland, 10/6).

yeah..please don't
I think I'd rather have Gaines, but this signing mitigates the loss. As I said and admit, I think a lot of people, myself included, went a little too far about losing Quarles and Gaines. But keeping Brown at the expense of Gaines is irksome.
You do realize that Gaines has an injured shoulder, yes?
Torn rotator cuff?
This guy was one of my sleepers to make the San Diego Chargers 53-man roster today. I thought that Nick Becton had more potential than Mike Harris, and he has performed better than Max Starks. He was an undrafted rookie out of Virginia Tech, meaning that he had been seen by all the scouts and none of them thought he had what it takes to make it in the NFL, but I like his combination of size, power and quickness.
I'd like to see Nick end up on the team's practice squad, because I think he could eventually be a very good backup swing tackle.

Don't bother, BB. I would have thought that this would have been obvious because it was certainly reported enough, but hobbyhorses are fragile things at best and tend to upset when confronted with reality.
