I like the keystone combination of Flores and Herrera. Wilmer has made some head turning plays and Herrera looks like a vet and he is the youngest player in the Majors
that every SS in the Major Leagues makes. One guy says he is not a SS and everyone parrots him to sound knowing. Tell me why he is not a SS. If you tell lack of foot speed and range I will say bullshit
Its highly likely Flores improves even more given some time there as well. He was moved off the position years ago(he was bigger) and didn't even really get a chance to play SS in spring training aside form like 2 games. His range and arm are fine. Its the little things around the bag he needs to work on but almost all of that seems possible. The key to Flores is his bat. He hasn't really gotten it going yet but assuming he does, I'd have no problem with at SS defensively for a couple years.
this next month I think you have to trade Murphy. Murphy would bring back a nice haul I'd assume. I think you can offer one of Neise or Gee up too. Should be interesting.
but Duda is now legit and should improve even further in 2015. TDA is legit and should improve further in 2015. Lagares is legit enough with his defense and should improve further in 2015. Some of these kids here or close like Flores, Hererra, and Nimmo could all be positive factors.
I think its a little unfair for Herrera to HAVE to prove himself in only a month. He's so young. I think he's the second baseman of the future regardless of what he does over the next 30 days. I think he's going to be the top of the order spark plug type bat we've been missing since Reyes left.
and you saw him for the first time today, you would come away from the game saying this is a heck of a ballplayer. The question is can he sustain this level of play over a long period of time? Or does he play a lot and gets exposed as somewhat lacking?
We have to develop solid, legitimate defense up the middle. Herrara will be our 2B, and we need a new SS. Flores can be the backup infielder, as he can certainly fill in at all 4 infield positions. Our defenders must be naturals at their positions, Murphy isn't that. Lagares, Herrera, a capable SS, and improvement from TDA, Plawecki, Recker, will add a few wins to our team next year with the capable pitching that we have.
He is playing show me more with Wilmer and is absolutely sold on Herrera. Herrera for Byrd might be one if the best trades in Met history down the line
is far from legit. Sorry nice pop and a brutal defensive catcher. Need to see way more improvement.
Recent article on TDA defense linked. The takeaway:
Quote:
"the positive value of the additional strikes that he steals with his exemplary framing skills outweigh the negative value of the additional passed balls they produce."
I don't know if he will be good defensive player or even worth a shit offensively. That being said, at least they are finding out.

I;m not going to Citi until he is gone.
They still need a left fielder bat this offseason.
