Grey Pilgrim : 8/31/2014 11:58 pm
tomorrow.

Anyone have any idea if it's possible to obtain a new passport asap? We were/are going to aruba.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.
I think he...

If tomorrow were a regular Monday you might've had a chance

There are some procedures for people within two week and 24 hour windows of travel that have same day expedited services.

But tomorrow is Labor Day.
your brothers
MookGiants : 9/1/2014 12:11 am : link
trip will be delayed by at least 1 day, and thats if he can get on a flight on tuesday and get everything done that quickly.

Kick your brother in the nuts for doing something so dumb.

I'd go without him and tell him to figure out how to get there within a couple days
You should definitely...

still go. Don't punish yourself - punish him!
if you're in the NYC area
MookGiants : 9/1/2014 12:15 am : link
this is the type of place you need to go. Will probably cost a couple hundred, and unfortunately they are not open on labor day. If I were him I'd be there first thing in AM on tuesday and rescheduling my flight for late tuesday night or wednesday first thing AM if possible

Your brother..

needs a very public shaming for this.
I'd go directly to the passport office with this
jcn56 : 9/1/2014 12:19 am : link
an expedite service won't get him something same day. Since tomorrow is Labor Day, you can forget having it tomorrow, but if he gets this done on Tuesday he could conceivably still grab a flight that day.

Eh, and while I was digging up a link

Mook got there first. Either way, I'm with CiP, I'd mock him relentlessly for something that stupid.
I can't stress this enough...

Don't wait for him. Go. Have a fun night on your own and let him figure it out.

I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP WITH A SIMILAR STORY....

My wife, unbeknownst to me, had 2 passports in our special documents folder that we keep for travel. I grabbed the wrong one which had been replaced by a newer one because she thought she lost the other... well it turned up and they both looked identical and I had no idea the one I grabbed was voided.

We went on a 5 year wedding anniversary trip out of the country - no problem leaving - but as she handed the passport to the booking agent she realized somehow it was the wrong one and started freaking out. We live in VA but flew out of NY so the kid could stay with our parents - there was really not a great way to fix the error in line to get our tickets, so we went on the trip and enjoyed it for about 4 days. Then it was time to look into the passport debacle.

We found the US embassy, they issued a temporary passport so we could get back in without issue, for a fee, took a full business day to do it -- and it worked perfectly fine at customs on the way back in.

In fact, part of me thinks it wouldn't have been an issue if we had done nothing, but it wasnt an expired passport, just an old replaced one.

SO

If they are out of the country right now, with a passport that is an issue, this is what i would do. Call the embassy and see if it can be taken care of in a day for a fee. If it can, make an appointment, do it, and don't let it ruin your trip.
yep labor day

Would an original birth certificate be OK for Aruba?
kinard : 9/1/2014 12:44 pm : link
... could be worth a phone call.

Travel requirements on their site state "a passport that is valid upon entry and for the duration of stay in Aruba". I know at the land borders expired passports are utilized accompanied by a birth certificate but international air travel need valid passports.

I'm in aruba now and just wanted to thank you guys for all your help! I flew in on Monday and just picked up my bro at the airport today. You really saved the day ( and vacation!). He went to the Hudson st US passport agency early in the am on Tuesday and had the passport in his hand around a quarter to 2 and then flew in this morning. We're extending the trip a bit so no harm done.

This is one of the reasons why BBI is not just the best Giant forum but also one of the best overall forums on the net!

Thanks again guys! I truly appreciate all your help!

And Go Giants!

Well, at least he's paying for your drinks throughout the vacation, right? Or paying for the hookers?
Just got back from El Gaucho

The meal hit the spot. Just what I needed. A nice juicy steak to help me unwind.

Thanks again for the advice!

Looking forward to the game on Monday.

Man..

You are a saint. Your bro should be publicly shamed! And he should buy everyone on BBI a beer.
