49ers DT Ray McDonald's weekend arrest came two days after Roger Goodell established a six-game ban for first-time offenses. What happens next? Plus, examining Alex Smith's extension, the lack of surprises on cutdown day and more
"13. I have never seen a more misleading 5-0 preseason than the one the New York Giants just had. Eli Manning completed 49 percent of his throws, Odell Beckham (hamstring) wasn’t healthy all summer, and the passing game looked just as sickly as Beckham. Yikes. Giants have to win a scoring contest with Detroit a week from tonight. I don’t like their chances."

NEW ENGLAND
Reiss ESPN: Film review on Patriots DL Kelcy Quarles
"Projects to the interior, has scheme versatility: Quarles mainly played three different techniques in the New York Giants' 4-3 alignment -- head up on the center (0 technique), shaded on the center (1 technique) and shaded on the outside shoulder of the guard (3 technique). He is a physical, strong player with long arms (33 1/4 inches). When he gets his hands into an offensive lineman and extends his arms, he is most effective and shows the ability to control blockers. While he is not a quick-twitch dynamic rusher like first-round draft choice Dominique Easley, he did display short-area quickness, twice penetrating over the left guard's outside shoulder and beating an attempted block down the line of scrimmage from the left tackle. He also showed notable speed (for a player his size) and effort in chasing Colts quarterback Chandler Harnish to the sideline on a scramble."

Jordan Ranaan writes that Nick Becton has below-average athleticism.
Bobby Epps : 9/1/2014 2:20 pm : link
It's correct but only slightly in most categories but above average in the short shuttle and broad jump, thereby indicating above average agility and explosiveness.

IMO Becton's biggest deficiency is his strength: 19 reps vs. 27 NFL average. Hopefully, he'll hit the weight room early and often.
It absolutely kills me...
Dan in the Springs : 9/1/2014 5:06 pm : link
to look at the salary cap space page (in your third update). Seriously? How does Dallas have more cap space than we do? I know I don't understand this stuff, and much better people than I have tried to explain it to me, but all I read this past offseason was about what cap hell they've been in. I've been reading about how they are going to extend Dez Bryant's contract and wondering with what money - then I see that they have more than $5MM more in cap space than we do! UGH!

Looking at Philly's situation sucks too. I get that it's good to spend your cap space, but it seems we are always up against it more so than the other teams in our division.
The Jets are $26M
