Trindon Holliday IR question

weaverpsu : 9/1/2014 10:01 am
Does anyone know what his injury is specifically? In my lifetime, I have never heard of an athlete missing the entire year with a hamstring injury. Also, have the Giants used their one short term IR yet? I live in Colorado and Holliday was really fun to watch for the Broncos and I was very excited about having such a premium return guy, despite his fumble issues. Such a bummer.
I believe Scwartz is on the short term IR. So Holliday may

be headed toward an injury settlement according to many around here. I believe you're only allowed one short term IR player.

has a hamstring injury.

He said he was going to practice this week.
No one is on the short term IR yet

Can't place anyone on that list until tomorrow.

The way short term IR

works is stupid, IMO. I believe if you have an injured player who recovers after 3-4 weeks, he still has to wait until week 8 to come off the list.

Cruz was put on IR with a hamstring injury, so it does happen.

Also, teams can't use short-term IR until Tuesday, so technically, Schwartz is still on the 53.

Ask Victor Cruz...
Don't understand Holliday's status

Can anyone explain how he's on some kind of IR but can maybe practice but isn't on the roster?
I'll admit it
Mike in Long Beach : 9/1/2014 10:55 am : link
I don't really understand what's going on with Holliday at all.

Bottom line is he is done with the Giants in 2014-15, right?
I thought Holliday was done with Giants since
ZogZerg : 9/1/2014 10:58 am : link
Giants IR'd him. By doing that the Giants can't bring him back even if cut with injury settlement - right?
That's what I thought
BillT : 9/1/2014 11:01 am : link
But what's Eric saying with the "going to practice this week". IRed players aren't allowed to practice with the team, right?

Missed last year with hammy..and web most
Every team..

does this. It isn't the injury that is keeping him out, it is the fact he is a vet and they will reach an injury settlement with him - which means he would have been waiver otherwise.

This allows him to sign with another team after the settlement, but has no chance of being a Giant in 2014.

The hamstring is just the technicality that allows him to be placed on IR.
Cruz was different.
arcarsenal : 9/1/2014 11:47 am : link
His hamstring "injury" didn't cost him the year, he could have played later on.. but it was how they stashed him and kept him from being signed by another team.
I don't understand

How one day Holliday says he will practice and the next he is placed on season ending IR.. And why not cut manningham the guy is done.. This is the link that said Holliday was going to practice this week. How did Holliday get hurt in the first place.

Agree about Manningham. Holliday has missed the last 2-3 months plus all of this season. It's almost a full calendar year! Just don't understand.

He can't practice.

Before he was IR'ed, he said he was going to practice this week.
Guys
Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/1/2014 8:12 pm : link
it's not that complicated.

Holliday hasn't practiced in a month with a hamstring injury. The Giants ran out of patience and IR'ed him. Manningham would have been cut had he not hurt his calf in the finale.

Both will likely be waived off of IR with an injury settlement.
Thanks Eric

I guess I didn't fully understand the IR process. In my opinion however, after losing Wilson and not having anyone looking very good on KR&PR (again IMO) I believe he has the chance to have a bigger impact than a guy like Hosely. Surely in 4 more weeks time he would be ready to play and that is same time table as Hosely. I guess it's time to get over it.
they have to be ir'ed first
Ben in Adirondacks : 9/2/2014 10:04 am : link
You can't cut an injured player outright.
