We have to hope he heals and can contribute at some point. Shutting him down is the best thing if the hammy is truly damaged to the extent where being active a day earlier than needed could end the season....well keep him out.
I presume Odell will come on at some point and be our punt returner at least.
Because the individual did not prepare correctly. That is a fact. Forget this poor ODB crap. It's poor us who invest in season ticket money for entertainment.
I don't think anyone is saying poor Odell and feeling a fucking thing for him, its just the way fan deal with a situation like this. By now our experts would have been killing the pick, or praising the pick, there is no in between here, with this situation, they really can't say one way or the other. But as far as being unprepared, I am not sure about that at all. Bottom line is that it does screw the fans, and it screws the organization, just think how Reese feels about it, if that guy is not on thin ice now, he never will be.
Rashad Jennings is still practicing. Richburg, I high number 2 draft pick is out there. Our LT, who is coming off a major injury is out there. So yeah, it could be a lot worse.

and Beckham still cannot get over his hamstring. Who knows when the injury actually occurred, but this is a joke. Feel like we are right back on the Nicks train with leg injuries.
you are wrong about the 75%. Where did you get that from? Are you saying that people pull hamstrings because it's their fault for not being in shape? There are numerous factors that lead to hamstring pulls/tears. A sudden excessive lunge-type movement, or an incorrect strength ratio between the quadriceps and hamstrings,or an inadequate flexibility program are three leading causes. In near 40 years of running and coaching, I have seen and experienced numerous hamstring pulls. There is more to it than you say. It is a nagging and painful injury that takes time to completely heal. Rush back too quick, and you are back where you started, actually worse. It sucks Odell is out, but we want him back healthy.
Because the individual did not prepare correctly. That is a fact. Forget this poor ODB crap. It's poor us who invest in season ticket money for entertainment.
WTF?
Don't argue...it's fact! Now it may be a made up fact with no base in truth, but any thought you come up with is a fact according to some posters! :)
The Giants don't get three or four 1st round picks each year. This team would be so much better if they did. We would probably have a great TE and no worries about depth. But Reese would probably fuck that up too. /sarc off.
is doing his best to get back on the field ASAP. It sucks that he's out, but it's ridiculous to blame him for the injury. It sounds in fact like he tried to come back to quickly a few weeks ago, and this is what caused the current setback. Of course, when he does come back, he's going to be way behind, but I still think we'll start to get something out of him by week five or six.

I hope you're right. I also hope he doesn't come back and hurt it again. I tend to not worry about injuries(I have no control and you play with who you have)but I think we will all be nervous everytime Beckham is on the field this year. Hamstrings suck.
Worst starting TE in the NFL? Who knows? Perhaps we ought to wait for a few games into the season to see what happens.
In 1999, Dick Vermeil saw his starting QB (Trent Green), tear an ACL. He was just about reduced to tears; his starting QB for that season was a guy who was undrafted, cut by the Packers a few years earlier, and was stocking shelves at a Hy-Vee grocery store in Cedar Falls for $5.50 an hour. As a third string QB for the Rams, his stats in 1998 were 4 of 11 pass attempts for 39 yards and a 47.2 QB rating.
I'm sure the Rams fans were saying they had the worst starting QB in the NFL that year. You'd be crazy to think this guy would be the League MVP, SuperBowl MVP, and win a Super Bowl.
Despite the odds, Kurt Warner did all of that!
I know, it's rare that it happens, but it does happen. Hell, it happened to us...or don't you remember Wellington Mara's "Painted Mud" speech?
Quote:
This team was referred to as the worst team ever to win the home-field advantage in the National Football League, Giants co-owner Wellington Mara said. And today, on our field of painted mud, we proved were the worst team ever to win the NFC championship. In two weeks, were going to try to become the worst team ever to win the Super Bowl.
the bottom line is the Giants badly needed whoever the 12th pick was to be an instant impact player. they are now in the same predicament they were in last year when, according to gilbride, they only had 1 viable WR.
my guess is detroit uses a simple over/under bracket on cruz, and plays man vs. randle, jernigan + donnell. eli will be in trouble vs. that D-Line. we will need a great performance from #10
i do expect our defense to be strong and keep us in the game.
Maybe I'm just a glass half-full guy, but the fact that he was on the field at all catching passes seems to be a positive sign. Also, that was just the beginning, media-access portion of practice. How do we know OBJ didn't do more in the closed session?
Maybe the Giants are playing possum to throw off Detriot's game-planning?
In any case, that he's out there at all seems to indicate he's at least close and hopefully means having OBJ in there sometime in the first quarter of the season.
Right after I posted I saw that quote from TC.
Wow, that sucks. Well, no point in dwelling on it and when he's back he' back. In the meantime, let's hope JJ contributes as a no. 3 and maybe Corey Washington has an impact. Coughlin on OBJ - ( New Window )
If Cruz was a Megatron, Green, etc. type WR, they might be able to attempt to get away with the quality of the rest of the offensive "skill talent" that they have, but he's not. He can't carry that type of load and the offensive line is likely to be terrible again, all with a QB trying to right himself.
I'm hoping against logic Eli can go 2011 again, just to get them to around mediocre/average, but this is lining up to potentially be ugly right now.
even become mediocre this year, I will be DELIGHTED! Right now it's not looking too great. Cruz is decent and should get a lot of coverage, Randle drops passes and STILL can't figure out what routes he should be running, and Jernigan is still Jernigan.
Will a TE step up? Which one, Larry, Moe or Curly? Doesn't look promising. Washington obviously has talent but needs WORLDS of development.
Jennings and Hynoski may prove to be two of the Giants' most reliable receivers, and might do some damage. But right now it looks like the best shot this team has this year is its running game and defense, each of which shows promise.
Because the individual did not prepare correctly. That is a fact. Forget this poor ODB crap. It's poor us who invest in season ticket money for entertainment.
Well, I guess there's no need to consider simple injury regardless of condition; the fitness programs run by the team; the pressure to come back before one is ready.
Pardon me if I find your "Fact" somewhat less than.

Here's the problem I've got Mike. You've got collectively the worst group of TE in the NFL and you basically ignored it during the off-season. Signing Fells(who's the best we've got and is below average to average at best) and Davis(best blocking TE we had) is not going to cut it when you've got 2 other guys who your banking on that in the past haven't shown anything.
Not only is this going to hurt the running game, but Eli basically has one less weapon to work with. Just pray that Fells stays healthy. He's the only guy who can block and catch consistently.
Btw Mike love the city of Annapolis....one of my favs for sure.
I think by week 3 Beckham goes on IR. His injury appears to be
The #Giants have the NFL's second-oldest roster. Here is the breakdown by position.
WTF - how is that possible? Giants had to have the largest turnover of any roster in the NFL this year and one would think that would make them the youngest roster ... so, what this means is that the turnover was accomplished by ridding themselves of their youngest players and replacing them with older players? wtf?
I think this is overrated.....if we had David Wilson , will hill and Marcus Harris on the roster like originally planned; Hillis, herzlich and someone else like brown, mike Patterson aren't on the team...the avg age goes down quite a bit.
Because the individual did not prepare correctly. That is a fact. Forget this poor ODB crap. It's poor us who invest in season ticket money for entertainment.
Given who his parents are, I would assume he would be in the other 25%

I wouldn't read too much into that. For every aging player on the roster I think for the most part the Giants have an adequate, younger replacement waiting to take his place. Although, at some point (very soon) they're going to have to finally address the LB position through the draft.
Think About It Bill. If You Constantly Bust On Draft Picks To The Point Where You Have To Sign The Most FAs In The NFL Then That Would Make Your Roster Pretty Old. Simple.
Josh Brown K 35
Zak Deossie LS 30
Daniel Fells TE 30
Cullen Jenkins DT 33

CB Prince Amukamara (groin) looked to be back at practice, as expected.
No Odell Beckham, No Brandon Mosley in media portion of practice. #nyg
OLs Charles Brown (shoulder) and James Brewer (back) appeared to be back
LB Jon Beason (foot) and CB Prince Amukamara (groin) were back to work, though.
I presume Odell will come on at some point and be our punt returner at least.

I would think that's the least of their focus for him. WR is where they want him to contribute first and foremost.
The #Giants have their first regular-season depth chart out. Donnell as No. 1 TE. Hankins over Patterson at DT. #nyg
Really not a positive when the two prize off season acquisitions on the offensive side of the ball are out indefinitely.
What a joke!
WTF?
What a joke!
Until one of them catches 4-5 passes in a game

Someone has to have the claim. It's us in this case. It is what it is, I'm pulling big time for Larry.

Mook, perhaps. I really don't know yet..
Jerry probably takes his starting role if not and I don't Mosley ever gets it back

Will Odell Beckham practice this week? "I doubt that very much," Coughlin said. "He may be a couple, three weeks away."
Tom Coughlin just went on rant telling media to back off Beckham story. May be weeks before he can play #giants

I think TC said they hope to get him back Thursday when the game preperation begins. He could still start in that case. We'll have to wait and see.
BB. Mosley is the better run blocker. He did pretty well in the preseason.
