And sign Stephen Hill to be the zone stretching deep threat that Beckhams was supposed to represent or get used to trying to run against 9 in the box !
Give Reese a do over and let him pick Cordy Glenn and Martin instead of Wilson and Beckham. We would have a great OL and the same skill players we have now.
Think we'll see Beckham late in the year unfortunately.
I hope so..Could be ENTIRELY different situation, but when I think hammy with a WR, I think Miles Austin..No matter how long he was put on the shelf, he almost always managed to re-tweak, shortly thereafter
There was a thread this weekend that made it seem like they brought ODB out for a show and he hurt himself during that practice.
Comments?
He was for the most part on the side during the whole practice. When they went to 11 on 11 he was sitting out for about half the reps. He finally came in and on his only rep caught a crossing route. Turned upfield and at the end of the play came up lame. Wasn't touched. Wasn't running full speed. Just went to slow down and took a little hop step and limped off. Sat on the side on one knee for the rest of practice. He definitely aggravated the injury. In Coughlins defense he did not go to off to the trainers or bring any attention to himself so that may very well be why they are stating there was no "setback"
Another first round pick stuck in the weeds. Sad thing is he was a flash when he got his Hans on the ball at LSU. Nothing against Beckham but I really thought they should have gone offensive line or tightend. How much of a contribution will Beckham make if any at all this year. You have to wonder if there isn't a black cloud hanging over the Giants and first round draft picks.
Begins to sound like the Giants may never be able to rely on this guy -- this season or ever. The comments about the continuing nature (that is, recurrence) of hamstring injuries to WRs are worrisome. Tell me that this is nonsense, please.

Eff Beckham? Eff a guy that gets hurt playing for your team? Fuck you.

Yes. Makes perfect sense. Rookie hurts his hamstring and therefore we will never be able to rely on him. Ever.
I recall reading here when he practiced for couple
days they had him running punts...
he should have been 100% and if he heals
let someone else play st's..
I was really looking forward to Wilson having a big year and I wanted to see how talented he really was. Now he's gone for good.
Then Beckham gets injured enough to keep him out of camp & regular season games. If you look at our WR corps you can now see why Reese decided to go WR with the #12 pick.
Without Beckham, the offense has to hope one of these guys can step up. Maybe Washington?
Tom Coughlin just went on rant telling media to back off Beckham story. May be weeks before he can play #giants
Proof what I've been writing about TC and Hanlon was true. I guess the writers today bit the bullet and banded together to bug TC and Hanlon about their guy whose played zero preseason, zero training camp, but is confident were going to be the best offense in the league. While he misses the first 6 games.
Joe Morris remembers the conversation between the trainer and coach Bill Parcells. Bill goes, I need him back in the game. And Ronnie just goes, No, he goes into the game when I say he does and when the doc says he does, Mr. Morris recounted, still in awe. Now, you gotta have a set of stones to tell Bill Parcells that.
Give Reese a do over and let him pick Cordy Glenn and Martin instead of Wilson and Beckham. We would have a great OL and the same skill players we have now.
If only.
RE: Mrvax..good point . I'm guessing though Beckham is due back
how good ODB will be. I do know that this year may be a wash for him though. If TC said 2-3 weeks, it may easily be 4-6 since hammies are such an unknown injury. IMO, if he is 99.9% healthy when the bye comes around, I would prefer just to IR him because he isnt in playing shape, he doesnt know the offense, his timing is most likely off.
Not there is anything wrong with a red shirt year for him, but as days go on, my anticipation of him playing this year dwindles.
there is everything wrong with a redshirt year for him. They are
not the kind of settled team where that is acceptable. They need high picks to come in and play so that by year end you know they can be solid contributors the next year. If he misses the year then he is just another ? for 2015.
as you go through life and you find yourself agreeing with obvioustrolls like kepler and bossman, you should rethink your stance on a topic.
Who? Me?
I thought my ideas were more realistic than theirs. Coughlin already said 2-3 weeks he will be out for. But sometimes they linger. My point is if he isnt completely healthy, I rather just keep him out. No need to bring him back even with the slightest injury.
If in 3-5 weeks, he is 100% to go and practicing.... then unseat Jerrigan and Randle and go out and be a playmaker.

Yes. Makes perfect sense. Rookie hurts his hamstring and therefore we will never be able to rely on him. Ever.
It seems reasonable he could get in 7-8 games. That gives him 8-9 weeks to continue healing. He's a talented rookie and getting him that much PT in his rookie year makes it worth having an empty roster spot for half a season.
Instead of bitch and moan about a guy we haven't. I'll be bitching and moaning and if I see Jernigan instead of Washington for one... But not about this dude
Coughlin and Reese were horrified when he dropped every pass thrown to him. Rather than expose him, they told the medical staff to give him improper treatment and will continue to do so and he will never see the field and embarrass Reese.
With really careful, attentive treatment he could come back stronger than ever in 10 months AND maybe he'd never face this problem again. Bringing him back raw in November in the Northeast - just to pacify the fan base or surprise Seattle - would be short-term stupidity.
on another ODB thread, The body responds to strains by creating scar tissue around the area. Its protective in that its the body's cast essentially, but it is mostly inflexible, just like a hard cast. While there are ways to break it down like massage and ultrasound, you never get all of it. Each time he re- aggravates it, more st forms. Thats how it becomes chronic. He's certainly not damaged goods yet, but they need to be very careful with him or he will be.
careful when they do believe he's ready for practice. Maybe they should have him do light weight exercises first? Rather than have him go full bore running a route/cutting etc.
RE: The most troubling thing is that a few posters here have stated that..
I don't think Beckham had chronic hamstring issues at LSU. Posters have made this claim, but it seems every time they are just echoing another poster. Not sure where this idea came from, but I can't find anything corroborating it...at all. He played in every game at LSU except 1. If you had chronic hamstring issues, anything remotely similar to what is going on here he would have certainly missed more than a single game in 3 years time.
I have had a problem with our strength and conditioning program for a while. There is something seriously wrong here. Too many guys getting injuries that are preventable. Too often we see our guys up front get physically dominated.
BTW, I am going to bet that by the time this kid gets healthy, and by the time Coughlin trusts him enough to actually play... he may catch 5 balls this year.
transform themselves into track conditioned athletes for the combines and that does not always transcend to football ready shortly thereafter. Let the kid get healthy and lets see what happens. No culpability on either side.
You can curse me all you want, but I am really doubting the Giants
Staff in how they manage injuries. It seems our players always take longer than other teams to get back. I am not a doctor and have no medical expertise, but not to be able to manage a hammy from the beginning of June is problematic in my eyes.
It doesn't have to be about being cheap, the Giants could have incompetent staff. Simply because a doctor is at HSS (warren), doesn't mean he is a good doctor either. Obviously, the odds improve that he is a good doctor coming from a good hospital like that, but one of their alleged best surgeons completely botched my father in laws knee replacement surgery and now he has to get it done again with a small possibility he can lose his leg. The Giants are loyal. I would hope that we would invest heavily in exercise science like the a Eagles do with Kelly.

If we're finding it open season to criticize the Giants medical staff, I think it's important to recognize that they were dead right about Kenny Phillips, and dead right about Steve Smith when everybody else was going nuts assuming the Eagles knew something the Giants didn't. But somehow they don't know what they're doing managing a hamstring injury?
Phillips you are right about and so were the Giants. Smith was not so much about whether the Giants wanted him back, they did. It was about length of term and that they were messing around with him, so he bolted without them knowing and got a better deal in Philly. Oh, and where do u want to put Wilson? Guy was back five minutes before his career was over.
Anyway, managing and diagnosing are two different things. Never criticized the Giants about diagnosing.
Give Reese a do over and let him pick Cordy Glenn and Martin instead of Wilson and Beckham. We would have a great OL and the same skill players we have now.
is just a hamstring injury and all the stretching and exercise won't prevent it because all these guys have individual training regiments and suggested diets worked out to the tiniest detail. To say the doctor training staff or strength and conditioning team I is to blame is lazy and trying to scapegoat. Shit happens despite all the preventive measures taken for it not to happen
I admit that most fans think that their team is the only team that suffers injury. However, why is it that it seems, and I stress seems, that our guys always get reinjured and have the longest timetables? My friends and I always joke that going on the Giants injured list is like going into a black hole, never to be seen again. I am actually shocked that Beason and Prince will be ready, if I would have bet, I would have bet the house we would not have seen them until week 4.
Anyway, you are right that it could be scapegoating, since fans only react to limited information. However, I am really intrigued by what the Eagles are doing with their exercise science. They had almost no injuries last season, and there guys always come back fast. For instance, Maclin injured a hammy and was out less than a week, Cary Williams injured his hammy in the Chicago in the preseason game and was back the next week. Riley Cooper was in a boot, and was back in two weeks. If they don't suffer injuries again, I think we can't attribute it to luck anymore. I wish we were more avant-garde with our approach is what I am saying (to the extent this stuff is public).
because part of the reason beckham rushed back 2 begin with was all the reports about tom being pissed at him
remember it got 2 the point where beckham actually had 2 go into tom's office and reassure him that he wasnt a flake
couple days later he gets back on the field only to badly reinjure himself
this one stinks and its no surprise tom is distancing himself from it now, as it appears now his reaction to beckham sitting out may have caused the setback in the 1st place
Since he's been here TC has been frustrated with everyone that is rehabbing. He wants them on the field not on bicycles where they do the team no good. The doctors make the call when they can resume practicing no the player and not the coach. If there is one question he hates answering is about rehabbing players
I remember as a kid being angry at Rickey Henderson over his infamous hammy. I still think he was milking it, but I took a whole new perspective on hamstring injuries when I pulled my own. It was a mild pull and I rested for a couple of weeks. It felt good, but my first game of softball (this was post college) I ran in and over to the foul line from LF to haul in a weak pop up and remember I kept running in, flipped the ball to the pitcher and said I was done.
It wasn't really a pull, like the original injury. I just felt a twinge and it felt very tight. This was after a lot of stretching before and during the game. It was several weeks before my leg felt normal, without the even slightest trace of tightness.
After taking a lot of crap for asking the question(except for natefit, who was kind enough to try to answer it), I thought to look into it it myself. For those interested, check out the following as to hamstring injuries: "Recurrence levels are high, ranging from 12% to 63%. The first month after return to play (RTP) is the highest risk time for recurrence, though the risk remains elevated for at least 12 months." This is from http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2013/02/14/bjsports-2012-091400.full , which goes into the various treatment and rehab options and outcomes, based on a limited amount of available data. See also this "Hamstring strain injuries remain a challenge for both athletes and clinicians given the high incidence rate, slow healing, and persistent symptoms. Moreover, nearly one-third of these injuries recur within the first year following a return to sport, with subsequent injuries often being more severe than the original" from another article. Bottom line for Beckham is he has an uncertain future long term, to say nothing of this year.
Beckham

My GUESS would be that TC feels he came back too soon last time
Give Reese a do over and let him pick Cordy Glenn and Martin instead of Wilson and Beckham. We would have a great OL and the same skill players we have now.

This hamstring injury began on June 3rd, so its been 3 months and now we learn he will likely be out a 4th month.
Not out of line to wonder whether he will be able to make it thru an NFL game this season even if he did somehow get on the field.
There is no one on temp IR until tomorrow. Schwartz may be close enough to keep him on the active list. If so, they could temp IR Beckham.

Some of you guys really suck.
Yes. Makes perfect sense. Rookie hurts his hamstring and therefore we will never be able to rely on him. Ever.
Jesus Christ on a cracker.
Play with a groin or a hamstring, and then come back and call him a China Doll, She, or Becky. Putzes.
He's so far behind.

getting proper treatment

Just short IR him and let him get 100%.
Hence, any setback (or bringing a player back too early) is the sole fault of the medical staff.
Because they fear TC and Hanlon.
Well played, maestro.
Generally speaking most NE teams have the best medical professionals.

Yup, this is definitely on Reese. He fuckin knew this kid was gonna tear his hammy multiple times, yet drafted him instead of Martin anyway!
Next man up. Run the ball, play clean, and keep moving forward until the unit gels and gets healthy.

During the years we had our best offensive lines, from 2006-2010, how many games did those guys miss? Practically nothing.
